Thru elitmus you would recieve calls for IT/consulting companies mostly. Some odd manufacturing/mechanical companies offers do in come. Exam pattern would be like any MCQ and are not really difficult to tackle.
@banu2312 -well sir I have pondered over these questions and I have realized that I just want someone to reinstate my faith in MBA.currently I am feeling that MBA is just a over-hyped degree that will put you in a average paying job (freshers don't get the bigger packages) and a mountain of Debt.and it will take 2 years.
MBA is everything that you have mentioned but it is also a means to an end sometimes beautiful ends if you have the vision to think long term and beyond your first job and pay check. Read "I have a dream" by Rashmi Bansal to know what I am talking about.
My point is that you need a certain type of temperament to leverage on MBA degree. Unfortunately, today people are running behind the degree without realising this.
1. No one else but you can reinstate your faith on MBA. Do not judge any degree before you're through with the experience. It may seem overhyped at times but the learning experience one goes through the process, is not hyped.
2. Again, package depends on your own capabilities, hard work and which bschool you're doing MBA from. But doing MBA just because you want a higher 'package' is not done. People move up in the hierarchy in time to get better salary. And this is true for every sector.
3. Yes, doing an MBA means a handsome amount of loan. But for that you need to target top bschools so that after you pass out, you get a decent job and square with the debt.
Bottomline is, if you don't want to do MBA now, don't. Take time, think about it, and when you try, give your best shot. Have some work experience now. And ask yourself this, why do you not want to join an IT company? Even if you want to go for SSC CGL, keep the other options always open.
Hi...my name is Abhishek Chauhan 25 yrs old.I am a petroleum engineer and have done my btech from PDPU gandhinagar.I have completed my graduation in June-2012.Due to recession less number of companies came to our college so placement scenario was bad at that time.I was placed in GSFC.I am now working as a shift engg, in fertilizer plant.with a decent package of around 7-8 lpa.Now the thing is that I dont like the profile of fertilizer plant.I recently lost opportunity in ONGC exam.plus also I have signed a bond of 3 years with GSFC.I dont want to make my career in fertilizer.Only some of friends who have jacks have reached to petroleum companies.I dont have ,so difficult to apply to petroleum jobs offcampus. Now I am confused what to do with my career.I have different options in my mind. 1.Prepare for CAT and I want to abscond the company as i dont want to pay the bond. 2.Prepare for civil services exam and similar opportunities. 3.Wait again for ONGC GET exam but after 1 yr. fertilizer exp. will count on my part.a problem I have excellent academic career with 85%+ in 10th 12th and btech. Please guide me.I am lost in my career path..I want to make my career in a giant and reputed company.I am also excellent in academics.I want someone to guide me on my career path.Pls help me.....

@abhi2010ahm Hi. 1. Abscond the company - You won't get the work ex certificate right? Do you want to risk that? 2. Prepare for civil services exam - Good choice. But until you convert one of these jobs, you should not leave your current job.
What you can do now, is work for your company for some more time and then look forward to other MNCs, and your past work ex might help you. Some people directly make it to the MNCs. Some get a few years of work ex under their belt and then get such an opportunity.
Leaving your job to prepare for cat is not a solution. What if you don't get your desired bschool on the very first attempt?
It's alright if you think that you don't want to make your career in fertilizer industry. But if you are really interested in writing CAT and making it to a good bschool, have some good amount of work ex, and then go for it.
@Buck.up thank you sir for your reply. yes you are right no one can judge the right path for me but i couldn't make out which path i shud take up so i thought of asking on pg....now after your comment and some contemplation on it.. i have decided to take up a job and then go for scheswer notes which are easily available if it interests me probably i'l take up the finance route then... .however i have some queries if you can answer...1> if i want to get into equity research will only cfa help me or only mba or both ? how is er with respect to ib or asset mgmnt in terms of job prospects and value ? can i change my field from finance to hr ?
@abhimukh19 Can you guide ...Post MBA options are not my area of forte
@ankit043 You prepared for MBA, applied to 4-5 colleges. Gave interviews. Done
Undergraduate results
Don't bog with what is done. In case you convert the colleges then you can go for MBA.
But in case you don't case you don't get a good MBA college its none of your fault. I would advice you to look for decent jobs and don't block your options if it is MNC or not. To go there you have to start somewhere. Now you should only focus on getting a job. First get one. Start working. If you like the job its OK and if you don't then you will find new doors open. All the Best.
You are in a Job. A very decent package. This enough package is average in many top B schools.
1)Understand that being in Job and getting new opportunity is 10 times easier than leaving your job and prepare for anything. Also work ex only assists to strengthen your profile.
2)I would advice you to narrow down your career options. If you want to make career in a reputed company then how come you are thinking about Civil services ? This option does arise because you want to associate and every damn reason for not to work in this job. Remember all the fields which you are thinking require hard work, Patience and Perseverance and you can get only one whether MBA or Civil Services or .........
3)Associate long term meaning to your job. Start preparing for any of the career options which suits you best. Work hard. I am 100 % sure that if you have decided not to make a career in fertilizer industry, you will not be a professional in that field. But what matters is what you want to become. Strive hard to become what you want to be than what you don't want.
As far as I perceive this is not the best time to leave your job.
@Buck.up thannx for.the reply.I dont want to leave the job.I have one advantage in my job is that i have a lot of time in my job to study.so i want to prepare while doing job.but i am frustrated with this job.as this job has no growth at all.I DONT have references like other friends are having to get fruitful jobs in petroleum industrie.I need growth in my carer.and mba is the only option i am seeing.
Hi I am 2012 batch B.Tech (CSE) pass out presently working in an MNC from last 6 months with avg package of around 3.5 lpa.
I have a decent academic background
10th-91% 12th-86% Btech-79% (Tier 3 institute)
I want to pursue MBA but having some dilemma over 2 year full time program or 1 year Mba. I want to give paper for 2014 batch so till then my work ex will be around 1 and half years (approx). So should I wait for one more year and get work ex of 3 years for 1 Year Mba programme or should go for full time Mba. Is there any good college for 1 year MBA program and I have seen some colleges offering Part Time(weekend) Mba Courses like FMS. So can any one help me out in deciding which option will be suitable for me out of these 3 (full time , 1 year mba , part time mba (weekend course).

Buddy
To be true, with mere 1.5 years of IT experience ( or for that matter even with 3 years of work ex ) coupled with engineering college and other facts, you wont get an admit in any of the top colleges for 1 year MBA.
Your acads are good and i suggest you to go for 2 year regular MBA.
Also, i will suggest not to go for Part Time or Weekend MBA courses, they are generally not a good value addition.
my query is...i am 26 n plannign to get into a b-school this yr --> i will be 28 when i pass out.............i m hearing that most consulting firms n other companies hv got an upper age limit of 26...is it true? i dnt understand d logic behind it as abroad...one has to get min 3- 5 yrs wrk ex for an mba n that makes a similar age (i hv 3 yrs of wrk ex) ...so will my age prove to be a negative factor during placements?

No No No.. there is no age limit as such and that too 26 for consulting firms!!
Dont believe on such rumours !! 😃
Also, for any sector there is no declared age limit as such... it is just that FMCGs prefer people with less work for marketing/sales profiles etc... but there is no age bar which is put by them for applying generally! Now one may relate this preference of FMCGs for freshers with age!!
Having said this, for consulting firms this is not an issue at all!!
