I am Harsha from Bangalore and I work with a company based out of the US called CIBER . I am into Network security ( IT operations ) and I have been with this company for the past 2 years and prior to this was with Dell for a very short span of time . I completed my B.E in IT and passed out in 2009 , the problem I face is in deciding between MS in MIS or a MBA going by the descriptions of both the programs looks like MIS would be a good mixture of technical and managerial skills and MBA would be more on the business and managerial side. Having worked for 2.5 years now I feel my strength is my communication skill and convincing ability .
What are the advantages an MBA offers over the MIS program ? Considering my professional background till now what do you suggest .
My academics from school have been moderate but I plan on making amends now hence I want to take a informed decision on what I want to do further .
My engineering aggregate is 57% and in my 10th and 12th I have 65%. I have a work experience of 2.5 years. I have not taken GRE or GMAT as I want to take this important decision before I start preparing for a particular exam .
The thing which kinda demotivates me for an MBA is "COST" MS in MIS would surely be more economically feasible where as MBA in the US would surely be a costly affair.
Please help me out as I wanted to start preparing ASAP. Awaiting your reply.
MBA widens your scope and does not restrict you to a single domain..Ur interest looks more on MBA side but ur exp is on a technical side...I feel ur more of an MBA material... As regards cost, do a check on placements from the colleges u'll be applying...
I am in a serious dilemma right now and I am going to pour my heart out and since this forum is visited by many well placed people in the corporate world, trying to make their mark, I am sure someone with real insight will be able to help me!
Here goes my profile first of all- 10th- 94% 12th- 91% B.Tech- 71% (Civil Engineering)
Gave CAT and XAT in 2011 but could not do very well and got just 90 percentile. Had a call from NMIMS but did not attend the PI.
Some background info first to bring things into perspective. Its just that I have a chronic disease called Ulcerative Colitis. I came to know about it at the end of my intermediate school year. Was too shell shocked to give engineering entrance exams so just skipped them and prepared for next year. Somehow prepared for exams next year and got good ranks. I could have gotten into a NIT but at that time was unsure of my health and so I took the decision of staying back in my city and did my engineering from a local college.
Now fast forward 4 years and I am done with my engineering and placed in TCS. Also I am a lot confident now about being able to handle myself away from my house.
My question is- Should i disclose about my condition at the time of joining or should I tell it later only to specific staff that I come in contact with during work?
I am fairly active and productive but i do need people around me to be accommodating for me to be able to work and be stress free because there are times when my behaviour can seem to be weird if you do not know about my condition.
I don't want to be accused of committing a fraud or something like that and so I was thinking i will disclose about it right away at the time of joining but then I heard from few people that they are not accommodating about people who have even a slightest medical problem and will reject me right away. This got me thinking that I should probably take my chances as either way I am going home.
Also one more thing I would like to know is-Will I face problem in getting admission in B-Schools next year assuming TCS rejects me and I give honest reason for the gap.
Hi All, Currently I am working as a Technology Lead in an IT company in Bangalore. I have total 6 years and 10 months of work experience.Mostly worked in pure technical assignments. From last 6-7 months I am leading a team of 7 people. So all my achievements include/show-case my technical expertise. Rarely anything which is there which I can say as an achievement in managerial field.
My academic and professional qualification are as below: 10th- 87% +2(science)- 78% Engg (Electronics & Telecom)- 74% Oracle certified professional (10g and 11g)
I am planning to take GMAT in Aug2012. I am mainly planning for executive MBA(PGPX from IIMA, EPGP from IIMB and PGP from ISB). I have 2 queries: i)Since individual's profile and quality of experience in managerial role take an important role in these programs, so Can anybody please let me know if my profile is suitable for above programs . ii)What GMAT score should I target for.
Hey puys, I had some queries about these mock cats, I've given 2 already, and my performance is abysmal, to say the least (around 60/180). I had a few questions I needed to get off my chest, any advice would be appreciated 1) How relevant are these MOCK CAT's? Many of my seniors told me that it doesn't give you the big picture, and it might unfairly discourage you etc. 2) What score does one need to get in such tests to expect a call from say IIM A,B,C..I know it isn't the actual thing, but suppose this was the real CAT, then at what score would you get a good percentile? I tried searching all over the net, but couldn't find a definitive answer 3) And is the marking scheme of the CAT 2011 different from that of these Mocks? Reason I ask is that CAT 2011 gave an overall score of 225, whereas these mocks give out of 180
heyy,,,I am from IIT and fresh graduate,,,got job in PSU @10 lpa,,,(0 work ex),,,never prepared as such for CAT,,,given d test n got call from IIM I,SJMsomIITB(converted both),,,now I have dilemma which college to join(coz Som got small batch size n decent placement record),,,while IIMI got brand of its own,, ,,or go for job to hav sm wrk ex n all,,,dont hav mch decent 10th n 12th academics,,,,plus please tell do companies get biased during placement in management institutes(as unfair for freshers),,,,, reply ASAP,,,,hav to pay fee in a week tym,,,
If I had to choose between the two, I would have taken IIMI for the same reasons that you have mentioned. But both schools would be similar quality wise. But an IIT-IIM combo is respected well in the corporate world.
If you are confident of cracking the CAT again, I would recommend working for some years.

You don't have to disclose your medical condition unless someone explicitly asks you to. It is fraud only if you hide it when asked.
I don't believe TCS will reject you coz of this problem as its not a critical disease. I don't think even your medical tests will reveal this (though I am not sure).

It is if you are getting a salary and it is not a volunteering work.

1. There will be many people with similar profile as your. So don't worry about your experience. But try to highlight the non-tech stuff. 2. I think these programs consider the profile in totality. However, the higher, the better. I think ISB's avg is around 710-720.

If you have gotten a call from I, your profile is not very bad. So with a better CAT score, you can calls from C,FMS,L. And maybe even A or B, depending on your exact acad figures. Besides, working for a year or two adds a lot of value to a person, both on paper and intrinsically. However in a PSU I'm not sure you'l learn much. If I were you, I'd take another dig at CAT and XAT atleastand try to make it to one of the above mentioned 5 through CAT or to XL through XAT. Being from IIT will help you at the interviews

This is a common query and it has no answer. Mocks are important, but not carved in stone. You have only begun, and you will improve as the season goes along.
Try to get into the 100+ range consistently to be confident of 99.5+ But do remember that the CAT is different from the mocks in many respects, and mostly in your head. Time and again we have seen cases of people who nail mocks get nailed at the CAT, either because of complacency or pressure. On the flipside, there are poeple who have done average in mocks, inconsistent as hell, but have aced it on the big day.
So if you're doing well in mocks, great, keep it up and dont get complacent. If you're not doing that well, try and improve, and remember that its the day that counts

If you have been selected at an institute, no one can reject you on medical grounds. It is their duty to accomodate you, so dont worry. However, if you do disclose it at the interview stage, you may get a reject because of it, and you'l never know what the reason was. So its your call to take
I have joined IMTG Fin this year, i wanna appear for CAT 2012 while in first year. I just wanna know whether its possible to convert an IIM call while studying in a B school, if anyone has done before.
my graduate percentage is less than 65. so, i want to know minimum graduate percentage requirement in all b-schools . so please give reply to me ..
This year, IIM A had a virtual limit of 80% for grad. B wont call you either. IIM Shillong has 85% limit. No other schools have any limit as such, though you may be asked at the interviews to justify your poor academics
P.S. I have 60.04% in grad and 72% in 12th and I made it to a top 5 B school. So its not too much of a deterent if you can put everything else in place. Good Luck

Yes it is possible. I have known and heard of people who have done it in the past. Though if you're trying again, limit your list to the top 6-7 institutes. Good Luck

i am not getting how this question is solved. Could anyone teach me? Let k be a positive integer such that k+4 is divisible by 7. Then the smallest positive integer n, greater than 2,such that k+2n is divisible by 7 equals (a) 9 (b) 7 (c) 5 (d) 3
