The two years are counted from the date you appear for the first exam
There is no reason why you cant complete all four exams in one year .. This particular exam structure is so flexible so that you can prepare for it and then book for the exam when you are fully prepared.. i wonder why you need 2 full years for completion
As srujan90 pointed out , my suggestion would be complete all four exams in one year.
It is long time since I did not visit this thread as I was busy in my MBA(PGPX) at IIM A. Hope you would have completed your PRM by now.
I am now planning to start preparation for PRM. Let me know where are you working now? I would like to connect with you on your personal email. Please PM me your email.

Hello guys, if anybody has any PRM related queries plz do shoot
Where can I get latest PRM material in Mumbai/Pune. Any suggestions?
Thanks NewBee
Hey...you can call Laxmi Copy Center or Om Copy Center for the latest material. Their Phone Numbers are given below. Check with both of them order frm the one which gives it at a lower price (Obviously)
Laxmi Copy Center : 09833228039 Om Copy center : 09833541212
1) How do we go about registering for PRM as one from a low income country? Is any document necessary for the same?
2) From what I collected from the previous comments on this forum, I have two options to buy the photocopied material? Which among the two, Laxmi or OM, is better? Do they send anything else other than Handbook?
3) Is the Handbook going to be revised next year or it is already revised for 2012 and remain the same for the next year?
Answers : :) 1) No, you just have to choose india as your country and you will automatically get the low income discount. No document is required.
2) I have mentioned the phone numbers of both the copy centres in my previous comment. Both of them provide the same material. No difference as far as i know. So, Just choose the one which offers a lower price. And, they send only the handbook along with some extra material which are the changes made by PRMIA in 2010. The rest of the material is the same old 2004 handbook.
3) The syllabus has been the same from 2004, except some changes which were made in 2010. The copy centres will send you the new extra material as well. Just specify that to whoever you order just to be sure. Also just download the contents of the syllabus which is available for free on the PRMIA site and cross check the material when you get it so that you call them up again in case they forgot to send the extra material.
Thanks for the speedy response :D:D..... I see that you are from mangalore. I am from Kundapur... I found out that there s a centre in Mangalore.... How good is it? How many sections have you completed in PRM? What was ur gameplan?
Ok....looks i didn't change my profile....i'm actually from goa.....used to study at NITK Surathkal which is near mangalore........and i have been living in goa for a year now......after my engg......and i wrote the exams here.....so i cant tell you about the center there.....i have completed the first 2 exams.....in fact i'm writing my third paper tomorrow :).....write the 2nd paper first in case u r an engg graduate coz u'll find the maths easy.....and then write the first one coz it'll give you an introduction and also the depth you need in finance then go for the third and finally the fourth....thats how i'm writing them 😃
Srujan, All the best for the Third. I hope you rock it!!! Please concentrate on your exam and Help me with the below once your finish ur exam tomorrow... Anyway I have already ordered for the Photocopied material according to ur suggestion yesterday.
I am an engineer and I have thought of attempting 2nd section first. Initially I thought I would write all 4 papers at once but then I thought it is not as easy as CFA level 1. So I guess you are preparing for third from the photocopied material. Are you using any other material like QB,videos etc.....
Thanx.....The portion is too much to give it at once......that's what i felt........and risk management is is quite alot of theory......and yup....the only material i have used is the photocopied material....and there are no videos or question banks.......you can buy the questions fro 20$ per exam on riskprep.com.....its a really gud site......there are other institutes like kesedee and edupristine which offer video lectures and question banks....but i didn't find it necessary......riskprep was gud enuf for the first two exams.....and those other sites are quite expensive too....so its upto you.....go through riskprep and those other sites.....i feel riskprep is more than enuf....
@[335984:srujan90] :How was the exam? Hope you did well. I would like to know how did you make a decision between PRM and FRM? I am trying PRM because I felt PRM and FRM have got almost equal weightage and I need something that should get me going soon. I quit my telecom job and have been preparing for CFA and break into Finance... But unfortunately things are not turning out well. I am basically trying for quant analyst position..
I cleared the third paper too :). I chose PRM becoz i don't have work ex.....i'm a fresher and FRM requires u to hv 2 yrs work ex.....ie. they will give u the designation only after u give them a proof of ur work ex.......PRM is easier to write...you can write it on any business day of the year and FRM is conducted only twice a year so that creates a big problem in case you didn't finish preparing.....PRM is cheaper and also you don't have to pay them every year like in FRM to use ur designation......FRM has become profit making organisation and that is why they are charging so much.......FRM is purely risk and also if you read the FRM Handbook u will go mad.....its written in a horrible manner.....PRM covers alot of finance in the first paper which is really gud if you aren't a finance student like me......and also the PRM handbook is extremely well written.....u might just need to refer some topics on the net or texts but otherwise you can just read the handbook and practice questions on Riskprep.com n pass your exams.......
For a quant analyst position.....as far as i know PRM & CFA should be perfect......I'm planning to CFA level 1 myself this december.....i feel PRM is more user friendly and also well organised and cheaper......dats the why i chose PRM.....
The pros for FRM is that it is very well recognised......about 10 years back.....ICICI Bank had made it compulsory for all its Treasury Department people to clear FRM....hence its widely accepted in the Risk Management Industry......Whereas PRM is not so known.....especially in India its not so widely known......so in terms of Job perspective....you can say that FRM has an edge.....but in terms of learning and everything else I would say PRM has an edge because I have gone thru both their syllabuses and handbooks thoroughly....
So its up to you......there are a lot of sites where people have given opinions on FRM vs PRM......so you can read them and make a decision...... :)
@[335984:srujan90]: Congrats on clearing the third paper ..... I got the material from Laxmi Xerox and I am going through it. Like you said the handbook is very well organised and the examples solved using excel adds to ur insights of how the things are implemented unlike CFA level 1 curriculum.( hopefully CFA level 2 would be different).
Also would like to know if your currently working or gunning for these certifications or doing MBA?
@[232279:chethanbp1989]....Thanks :).....I finished my engg in 2011....I was doing a course called Financial Engg. & Risk Management at National Institute of Securities Markets, Vashi, Mumbai.......Along with that I did my PRM....I was also studying for my MBA Entrances along with that.....Luckily, I got thru Sydenham Institute of Management Research & Entrepreneurial Education (SIMSREE), Churchgate, Mumbai......In fact I was just in mumbai yesterday taking admission in the college :).....I'm planning to finish the last exam of PRM by the end of July which is when my college starts.....
I understand from ur mgs that u hv given CFA Level 1 right??....How was it??.....I'm planning to give it this december....I have a decent background in finance....so will i be able to crack it 4 months??...
The plan is to complete to Level 1 this december and Level 2 by next June....You feel thats possible??.....Is it really difficult......Do let me know......Thanks... :)
@[335984:srujan90]: Congrats bhai for the SIMREE...... Wish you all the best...
As far as CFA level 1 is concerned, U can definitely crack in 4 months( just perfect).... Use Schweser notes for all subjects except Ethics. I felt that FRA needs the maximum amount of time as its huge and demands your concentration.... Next on your priority list should be Quant( should be no problem coz of PRM) and Fixed income .... equity should not be problem as you were associated with NISM.... Corp finance, PM, Derivatives & AI are very easy if you are studying from schweser.... economics is something which i guess where you could be a little selective( what I mean by that it is huge to understand every god damn concept and weightage is less in the exam to the amount of reading) ... If you have already registered please start reading Ethics as you need some time to get the feel of it( Please do not neglect ethics)...
Also try to get Schweser QB which is a good database of some repeated questions... That is all I think is required... Also CFA institute provides 2 mock exams 1 month prior to actual exams which is the most crucial part of your preparation...
As far as CFA level 2 is concerned, I know none personally who has been able to sail thru it in 6 months.... But if one clears level 1 in December ,there s no stopping him from registering for level 2 the following June..... What I recommend is don't base your decisions of Level 1 thinking about level 2.... level 2 is hardly one time affair(thats what I felt from the feedback received from people who took it this June)
let me know if you need more details as to materials and prep.... would be glad to help you.
Thanx a lot.....that helps.....I already have all the material of schweser cfa level 1 december 2012......didn't register yet as i was waiting for my passport.....just got it a few days back.....so trying to decide now....thats wat even i thot.....even if i clear level 1 now.....level 2 might be difficult to clear in 6 months.....neways....i'll think bout it....thanks for the info....
@Darius said: Puys,I am in a dilemma as to whether to pursue FRM or PRM. Any suggestions will be highly appreciated. Please do mention the reasons behind suggesting a particular course. Thanks
hii..can any one tel me..how coaching institutes like pristine and all and there mock test boost my preparations?? is there any use of joining them for mock tests n material apart from prm hand book...also i am mba in finance from very good school but due to low cgpa i dint get into finance job and nw wrkn on a sales profile..so is it necessary to have finance experience after prm to get into a good finance company or banks for risk profile..and how much it boost my career in term of growth ???
