This is my first post. Got selected for SIMS. I need some help from seniors. The SIMS web site has displayed two laptop offers. DELL vostro 1400( OS Vista Premium) and APPLE Macbook( OS Mac). I am confused as to which one to opt for. My understanding is whichever system is best supported by SIMS network and more commonly used by SIMS fraternity shud be the natural choice. More over i believe mac is not commonly used in India. Enquiry at SIMS Comp Lab gave a non comittal answer. Can some senior help us to decide. ( Alen please help) Thnx.

First of all let me clarify that there no such thing as system supported by SIMS network. Secondly i am guessing that you are a novice when it comes to computers and hence i would suggest that you go in for the dell laptop with vista as OS

Hi Seniors, I want you all to throw some light on the Median Placements in SIMS ? I know that the site shows that average is 7 lakhs approx, but average salary is not the right indication, so Im interested in median salaray. I have a total work experience of 2.5 yrs in a leading IT company, so that is why I want to be sure as far the placement figures are concerned, before I get admitted to SIMS. Can you tell about how the different specializations fare wrt Placements ? Is it that laterals have a separate placements wherein theyll be offered higher packagesplease elaborate. Hi Alen thnx 4 reply. I guess I need to rephrase. Supported by SIMS network I meant was if most of you guys r using apple Mac then its OK to buy one but if majority r using Microsoft OS then it probably makes sense to go 4 same. It does not make sense to buy apple Mac and then hv the disc partitioned to incorporate a MS OS. After sales service is also an issue , coz more laptops bought from same dealer means better after sales. similar OS means easier interchangeability and laptop sharing, Isn't that a common thing in any residential skool or is SIMS different ?

can ne1 tell me about sims , I am BE (Mech) -VJTI and will have 15 months exp in sales n marketing (Emerson/12, Wipro/3)by ending june b4 start of course.Is it worth to do the MBA in SIMS(if I get through) Can I get a satisfactory placement considering my profile so far, or Shall I wait for another year and try for a better college ?? Pls reply ne1 from SIMS!:confused:

Many people are pondering on what they get......
I have talked with one of my friends who is in SIIB and what he said really worried me....

fact1:- They dont have lateral placements. So all your work ex is of no use.....Even a fresher cag over run you in pakages.

fact2:- For people having work ex its better to wait a go in higher rank college.....

you can try next time & i am sure that you will get through SIBM....
and SIBM is totally focussing on lateral placements for people with work EX......

I'll give answer to your query in 2 ways:-)
1) First of all...SITM or SIMS...both are good in their own ways but actually SIMS is placed at a better rank than SITM.
2)I come from a telecom bakground ( work exp of 2 yrs ),however i have chosen SIMS over SITM coz with SITM your scope gets restricted to ONLY telecom.....which i personally didnt feel right.

So in my personal opinion SIMS is better than SITM,but then at the end its your choice and decision.

Hi .

I have a query regrding the laptop. Seniors can you please give me a basic config on the guidelines of which I can select a laptop. Also how necessary are they? Will we require them from day 1 itself. I am asking this because I want to know, should I buy the laptop and keep or is it ok if I buy it a week or 2 after college starts. Will appreciate any help that comes my way 😃
