I just recieved the study material. Was waiting for it since so long that I almost gave the post-man a hug!! 😃

Anyway, let me tell you what all it contains.
A letter from SIMS that talks about Management Today, the orientation programme and learning at SIMS.
3 Books : (i) Good to Great - Jim Collins (ii) Freakonomics - Steven Levitt (iii) Marketing Management - Philip Kotler
Notes on Mathematics (Xerox notes)
Marketing case study ( TATA Steel)
Notes on Financial Accounting
And Notes on Management insights.

The letter says we'll be required to submit Book reviews and make presentations. :neutral:

It also says "It is recommended that you hone your knowledge and skills in MS Office tools like MS PowerPoint, MS Word, MS Excel."

So thats it guys... think everyone will be recieving it within a day or so... especially the Bombay guys.

i am a science graduate and i have work exp. in marketing.

Yes ...even i have received the study material and i must say... we all need to reeeally slog ...especially the mkt. management is quit a lot to study in a month:satisfie: .

I m sorry for the abrupt hiatus but to be very honest my comps givin hell lots of probs and the day it wrks i write a mail
Besides CPU probs there r a lot more like No xclamation marks ,no brackets and a few other keys r nt wrkin
so all my mails wnt hve a lot of punctuatution and also nt very presentable.
Akshay i m sure a lot of people hve posted by nw bout study material whch wuld hve answered ur querry as to wat needs to be done wth the material.

Received the study material finally.....and Since tribha has already mentioned what it contains I am not gonnna repeat that...but there's a slight issue....
I really couldn't understand what is it that we are expected to do....
Of course I know we are supposed to go through it but what about the presentation and the book review part of it.Do we prepare that before we get to SIMS or we'll have to do that once we get there....Plus I really don't think that they expect us to really understand the entire thing specially the ple coming from a Techie backgrnd like me.........
So if anyone who has an idea about the above,would really be grateful,if could throw some some light on the matter....

hey people its been long since i have posted on the group ok now comming straight to the point what about the study material for panchkula guys i heard people in chandiogarh have recieved the study matter some 3 days ago...well moi still aprehensive n every time i come online i do make sure to check out the sims website k mera naam abhi b list mae hai...:wow: ....well thats the kind of feel i have ...well as many people (most of them except US the panchkula valee)....have recieved it shayd dakia hamari b dak lae ayee..hey wat about the presentation stuff..well i feel it means ppt..caz it can't b slides..( caz last i heard sims was not in stone age..)....: .....so philip cotler...hmm..have heard its the bible of management..okie dokie...n freakonomics have heard about this bok...dunno wat but sure i have...chalo jahan itna wait kia vahan thoda aur sahi..we mite recieve it in a day or two....chalo hope for the best

Now i see ppl speculating about do we have to do presentation and all
THE answer is obviously YES some one has taken pain in selecting the materail for you guys SO THEY EXPECT SOMETHING FROM YOU...
so do the book review and presentation before you reach SIMS.
we also got Good to Great...
and kotler is the best book for marketing youu should go through basics of it
Power point, word and excel skills absoulete must to survive in any B-school so i suggest come prepared...

I think i made it very clear that you have to be prepared that means yes u do make presentation from home
No of slides depends on your capabilites go for conise and the best possible
and review is always a file common if it was presentation it would have been mention...

finally atlast i got my orientation package n almost hugged the postman..:D..hey tried wid that freako book...n am totally freaked out now caz for one i can't get the point y has the author written that buk n y are we reading it n wat will we gain ...i mean nuthing techi about it..n ya i am floored wid the looks of the buks...they definbately are sexy..especially the gud to gr8 one its really beautiful..... ..jus flipped thru the pages n it seems this buk means serious bizness...chalo gotta go will be online soon..

it seems that u all r trying very hard to get somthin out of those books :grab: its great.

Initially i also tried to read that freakonomics but that comics really freaked me out & just after 2 page i lost my control & have just thrown tht book away ,

will catch up with that somwhre in june so till then its fun time

those who have read those books ur views r most welcome
