Hi Nishant
I am very keen on this twinning program and so would like to clear up a few queries with you if you dont mind.
here is the case, my gmat score is on the lower side (570, q-48,v-20,awa-4)
i have 2.5 years of work ex with infosys. and a few community services and extra curriculars in my record.
what do you make of this? should i go ahead with my score and apply?
also, in the twinning program, there is no 4 month internship involved, so does that lower the chances for finding jobs?(compared to the guys who are part of the normal program)
Also, when is the best time to start with my applications?
thanks and regards
Sameer

Hi Sameer,
Thanks for posting your queries. My responses are as below:
1) About the program -
- This is not a twinning program in any form. You will be a student enrolled in the Full Time MBA Schulich School of Business, York University, Canada.
- The SP Jain Campus is just a campus location for the time being and SP Jain plays no role in structuring the program, designing course curriculum, etc.
- It is a 15-months MBA program, with first 6 months in Mumbai (SP jain), then 1.5 month-long break, and then 7.5 months in Toronto, Canada.
- Your MBA is in no way different than the 20-months Full Time MBA at the Schulich School of Business, Toronto. Besides the fact that your fees is lower (47k CAD), you have just 1.5 months of Internship time, and that your total MBA is 15-months long.
2) Your Profile / GMAT and should you apply - I cannot really comment on the same. However, the Jan 2010 intake had avg. workex of 3.2 years and avg GMAT of 670. The Jan 2011 has avg. workex of around 4+ yrs and a higher avg. GMAT (not sure but I have an idea because I interviewed the juniors for our Schulich India Consulting club). Most applicants have an IT / Engineering profile - so I recommend you to take another shot at the GMAT if you can.
3) Internship - Having an internship definitely helps. The Schulich India MBA program gives you only 1.5 months time to do so. I strongly recommend you to look for internships, especially if you plan to pursue a career different than your pre MBA experience.
4) Time to Apply - not sure of this year, but last year the Application System invited applications between 1st August 2010 and 30th November 2010 (i think so). Plan accordingly...
Hope that helps..
Best Regards,
Nishant Jain
First of all my profile:-
- BE in Electronics 68%
- 4+ yrs of IT work ex (would be 5 by June 2011) (presently working with Infosys)
- GMAT - Would give in June
Nishant, to keep the post brief, here is a list of my queries:-
- Would I be eligible to apply for Jan 2012 intake? (expecting 650+ in GMAT and would apply in June/July 2011)
- Can I still opt for the complete MBA course in Canada?
hi nishant,
I have few queries w.r.t indian applicant
1)how much pay package on an average can one expect if he takes up for financial consultancies/ banks related course?
2)i have my relatives at canada who has PR status so would i avail any fee waiver/can they become guarentor on my behalf for fees of schulich MBA also would like to know does it includes only tution fees or other expenses related to college activities.
3)how much GMAT score is required in general to avail sholarship for an indian applicant?
4)after pursuing MBA from schulich how much pay package can one expect in india.
@ cognizant_81
Sorry for replying late - Exams at were keeping me tied up.
1) Financial Institutions hire for positions such as their LEadership programs, Technology Rotation Programs, Financial Analyst positions and vry few I-banking roles. With 3-5 years of prior workex and good academics during the MBA you can expect to get hired.... the packages are anywhere between 65-85K. Financial Analyst postions start at 65K and Rotation programs offer around 70-75K.. I-banking is ofcourse the highest.
2) You yourself you hold a PR then it might benefit you in your tution fees.. Nothing else can help you with your tution fees. The International Student Relations office would be able to better help you with that query. They deal with such queries daily. Surely write to them about it. Their email is : [email protected] .
3) As per my experience your GMAT would not matter much in attaining a schol. Unless you have a score which is 750+. Other ways of raising yoru chances for a schol are having a well rounded profile - in past academics, workex which makes you stand out of the rest, green / sustainability initiatives taken (proven record) and other extra curriculars ... all that presents you as a prospective student which the school would not want to lose.
Once into the course, your chances for scholarship would depend mostly on your academic performance. Check other areas for bursary / scholarship on the following link on the the Schulich Website :(Schulich School of Business - Financial Aid)
4) Pay packages in India - that's a very wide question and varies largely on a lot of factors. Until recently Schulich was not a known brand in India. With the Schulich India Campus now and esteem associated with a North American MBA you can see a change for the better.
Based on my experience I can say when I and a few others from the current batch did internships in India with GE Capital and Honeywell - they got stipends of around Rupees 15K, which is at par with that received by IIMs and other prestigious institutes. The actual placement scenario is yet to be seen - with the first Schulich India MBA batch getting placed this year... 10-12 lakhs for anyone with 3-5 years of experience is what people are expecting.
Hope that helps.

@ Akhil
You would be eligigble for the Jan 2012 Intake of both Schulich India and Schulich Toronto (Winter Intake).
Candidates can apply to either of the two programs - India Campus / Toronto Campus. You cannot apply to both. Deadline for Winter 2012 (as per the website) is Oct 1. (Schulich School of Business - Admissions)
Pls Note - India Campus MBA would have Year 1 (6 months) in Mumbai and remaining 9 months in Toronto. Toronto Campus program would have the entire program in Toronto.

I'm a below average student, my profile below:
10th: 40%
12th: 55%
B.com (3 yrs Average): 50%
Gmat: 680
Work Ex: Total of 4 years full time and counting
1) Mortgage process officer ( Citigroup)
2) Senior Analyst - Mortgages and Operations (Equity Derivative trade settlements) - Lehman Brothers/ Nomura.
3) Senior Analyst - Operations, Trade settlements (Credit Suisse)
I shall have my PR for Canada next year :-)
My questions are:
1. I am aware that my grades are pathetic; however the Gmat score wasn't as bad. I'd like to know if I pursue an M.Com part time with first class results will that shadow my past academics?? Or will a full time M.com do the trick??
2. If the above options can't do any good, Should I pursue some degrees in Canada itself and postpone my MBA (finance) aspirations for the future to rectify my past.
3. I have missed the deadline for Mcom admissions this year however private Universities are still open
Example: NIMS University - UNIVERSITY IN INDIA, UNIVERSITY IN RAJASTHAN, MEDICAL COLLEGE RANK IN INDIA, TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY IN INDIA, MBA COLLEGE IN INDIA, MANAGMENT COLLEGE IN INDIA:: (Looks shady, will the admissions council of Schulich consider this??)
I can dedicate my time and effort all I need is guidance, is there anything I can do to rectify my past?? Any suggestion would be appreciated.
Also Shantanu Kumar for the Six Sigma training is kinda hard to find on Linked in, Id like to pursue it, if you find it or if someone has please include the link and ill contact him.
P.S Have read all your posts, i think your doing a fabulous job, keep it up sir.
Hi Nishant,
I am considering the India option seriously now. Can you please guide me on the following as well:-
1. While doing MBA at Schulich India, can I go for internship in Canada? (If there is any possibility of this).
2. Do u think I have chance to get an admit without any extra curriculars? Would a higher GMAT score help (say 700+)? If I am doing some activities can I still mention them as I wont be able to submit any proofs for them?
3. I have actually started the preparation recently. So dont know much. Can you please help me choose the major at Schulich, or even in general, based on the options available? I dont want to change my profile completely.
Thanks,
Akhil Kohli
Hi
I am an Electronics Engineer, NIT Durgapur, 2009 Batch
Work Experience:Senior Software Engineer at a leading global Electronics firm R&D; Labs (20 months work ex)
My CAT 2011percentile was 96.8 percentile
I got calls from IIM Indore,SPJAIN and MDI but could not convert either of these.
I want to move into the roles like IT Business development or Product Management or Project Management or IT Consulting which are typically offered after choosing SYSTEMS in the 2 year PGDM Programmes from Indian B-Schools.
I wish to appear for CAT once again but would also wish to take up GMAT since I would be completing 2 years of work ex in September 2011.
Do you feel that the work ex I am having is inadequate to move into the above mentioned roles?
Also are the 1 year PGP programmes in foreign B-Schools or ISB not suitable for what I want to achieve?
Thanks and Regards
Sayan
Hi
First of a thousand cheers for the amazing and self less work you have done on this forum.
Kindly answer my below queries:
1.How is the program in India different from the program offered in Toronto? Specifically , in terms of Job Opportunities available in Canada and India,Internship options in Canada and India.
2.What is sort of Career Services support provided by Schulich to its students studying in Mumbai? Whether the students will be part of any placement activities or job fairs organized in Toronto or Mumbai?
3.What are work permit rules in Canada pertaining to students attending the Schulich program in India?
4.Which companies have recruited the students from the batch of Schulich MBA program in India(I could not find any information on Prospective Employers on the website)
5.What is the total program cost of the program?
Also another query wrt the application. I believe the deadline for Round 1 for 2012 Jan Admissions is August 1st 2011.However , I have scheduled my GMAT on August 17th.Is it alright if i complete the rest of my application and send it before the deadline and send my GMAT score directly to Schulich at the time of the exam.
Thanks in advace.
Hi Nishant,
I an Engineer (2004 Batch) with an experience of 6.5 Years. Out of this I have 5 Years of SAP Consulting Experience. Is the course suitable for me. Couple of people told me that this Program is mainly good for Young Professionals or Professionals with 2- 4 Years of Work Experience, . Lets say, If I apply for Jan 2012 Intake, by then my experience would be 7 Years. Can you Please suggest me, with almost 7 Years of Work Ex, whether it will good for my Career to join Shulich MBA in India Program.
Also I would like to know:-
1. After doing my MBA, I would like to continue my Career in SAP Consulting only. What is the Scope of SAP Consulting in Canada ?
2. What is Average Salary offered in IT / SAP Consulting ?

@englebert85
1.a. You certainly have good work experience. But as per schulich norms for both the programs schulich india and schulich toronto- a first class in your 3yrs bachelors and masters degree is required. Your full time academic results will be considered.
1.b. I would suggest you to take up a full time program from an accredited degree granting institution and give another enthusiastic attempt at gmat. This would enhance your profile.
2. Other degrees in canada Heres a list of a few known universities in toronto that you can further research on: York UniversityClick here , University of Waterloo Click here
The only benefit of a PR would be in your tuition fees and stay in Canada.
3. In my case, the six sigma training was sponsored by the company I worked for. Some of my friends had done benchmark six sigma. You can google it for more details.
All the very best for your future endeavors.

Hi Akhil, the 16 month intensive program does not accommodate for internships in Canada. You may choose to do an internship after the course. In which case, check with your desired company's hr in advance as company policies might vary.
But you will have numerous opportunities to work on projects for companies in canada based on electives you choose and by actively participating in schulich clubs. In addition to this, Schulich offers an 8 month intensive strategy field study where as a team you interact with the top management of the company and lay out a strategy based on its vision, current competitive scenario and available company resources.
Akhil , yes you seem to have a pretty good profile for India mba and Toronto mba programs. A higher GMAT score is helpful but again its only one component of the overall application. What kind of extra curricular activites were you engaged in?
Business Consulting might be an option you would like to explore. You can choose from a gamut of electives that interest you at Schulich School of Business - Course OfferingsSchulich School of Business. In which case you can target companies like Deloitte . Akhil another way is to pick and choose the electives that most interest you and then see what major/ specialization you fall into.
Moreover the career development center at schulich will guide through the stages of your career path . For more details click here
All the very best for your gmat !!

Hi Sayan,
You seem to have qualitative work experience. 2/3 yrs work ex is good enough to apply for new graduate programs. I have seen job postings for junior consultants in IT consulting field, project coordinator in project management field with less work experience requirement. Also note that in some companies like RIM, they require above 5 years work ex for managerial positions in product management. Another component in your job search is networking and there is a good chance to get a job offer in product management/project management/IT consulting if youre persistent and demonstrate your skills by the projects you work on along with your full time mba.

Hi Rahul , thanks alot for your good wishes. Nishant is my batchmate and he would be glad to hear that :cheerio:
Job opportunities are equal for students enrolled in either of the programs.
The Career development services looks into each students profile and assigns them with a mentor. In my case, I had a mentor in India and when I came to Toronto in the 2nd year of the program I was assigned another mentor in Canada. Also a plethora of Networking opportunities with company hr, managers and alumni working there were arranged. Job opportunities are listed on the career portal and we apply for jobs there.
work permit you can get upto 3years it totally depends on the immigration Canada representative. Companies can sponsor your work permit extension if required.
Regarding the placement query please see my next post.
The total program cost comes to $47,000 cad.
@application, It should be fine but please inform the same at [email protected]
Keep writing in.
Best regards,
Angad Chowdhary
Hi Friends,
The formal placement statistics are not yet out.

Expected by June end.
Heres some more info on employers include - Deloitte, RBC, TD Bank, Loblaw, Toronto star, Mars discovery, TCS India/ Canada, Amex and many more.

Hi Pankaj,
Thanks for your question.
The schulich india family has members with upto 10 yrs of work experience .The average age of the second batch is more than that of the first batch. Candidates chosen are from diverse backgrounds, skills and abilities that contribute towards peer learning. Learning from your peers doesnt end there when you come to the Toronto campus in your 2nd year of the schulich india program you will be among schuligans in toronto with varied work ex including more than 10 yrs and less than 4yrs.I have learned a lot from my peers from the india cohort and Toronto campus and the learning is still going on.
Contact the cdc at [email protected] for specific field query in consulting. There are job opportunities in IT consulting. You should also get in touch with the York consulting group [email protected].
Salary offered Click here
P.S.
York Consulting Group (YCG) at schulich has grown to become Canadas largest year-round business school consulting service. It offers a wide range of management consulting services to organizations ranging from small entrepreneurial to multinational corporations. Its consultants are MBA students currently enrolled in Schulich.

Hi Nishant/Angad,
Thanks for replying to my queries.
1. My ECs include involvement with a small religious group and some computer gaming. Would these help?
In your opinion, can computer gaming be worth mentioning?
As I dont have any proofs/certificates to submit for any of these, would these still be counted?
2. As I would be taking almost all the amount of loan for the studies, my main concern would be to secure a placement at the end of the course, and that too in Canada/US. Taking a worst case scenario, just asking, how are the placements there? Is it more India-oriented?
Regards,
Akhil Kohli
Hi Nishant,
I would like to get in touch with Sagar Tawde. We know each other personally. Please let him know it. I posted a message on his FB profile, but somehow he seems to be away from FB for the time being.
I needed some information from him. Thank you.
