Same here... but i'm confused what to start off with ?? QA or LR or VA or DI ??
you have to do VA on daily basis, doing 10-15 words daily to increase your vocabulary and reading editorials, novels and other stuff..
QA,DI AND LR you can do on alternative days..if u donot have sufficient time to study otherwise you can do QA on daily basis and DI or LR on alternate days as in DI and LR there is no theoretical knowledge..

I agree with Kapz.
What I used to do for vocabulary building is reading daily article/editorials in news paper, magazines etc and jot down the unknown/difficult words. I've maintained a diary to record those words. On daily basis I used to recall todays learnt words and used them in sentences so that they will be imprinted on the mind.
I'm finding this useful till date. Daily 5-10 words (more if you can :p) are enough to increase your vocabulary. This will help you in RC, VA etc and increase your reading speed as well. Believe me, the words are common many times and you will find them here and there. And the main thing, it gives you confidence which is of utmost importance at this stage of preparation. :)
For QA, you need to get your basics refreshed like formulae, number tables, short cut methods of calculation. You can go thru a chapter at a time and finish that up in a day or two then start practising questions.
For LR, you need to solve as many as possible question covering every type of it. You will find them on PG threads and on internet.
For DI, you have be calm and cool. 😃 You have to have intense concentration while solving a problem and need to have calculation practice that is playing with the numbers (finding percentages, multiplications, divisions etc all basics with short cuts to calculate them rapidly.) Keep practising and you will do it.
Hi, i think GMAT type grammar and GRE type word list cannot be done by any student... but manhattan for grammer common errors(seld study book in pdf which will take maxiamum of 1 week to finish) and few words daily will definitely give you much much edge... After that i dont think any preperation is needed as reading comprehension is one's own ability... and can be improved only by practice... but grammar and words can be acquired by knowledge and books...
i have manhattan sentence correction book..i have gone through its first part during my first attempt of cat last year, but somehow when it comes to implement its rules i usually find myself wrong, reason may be is that i havenot got the basics right..but the case is that now i am postponing my prepration for grammar..what should i do because it is hurting me badly that i am not able to concentrate on grammar..

Even i read..Mgmat sc....the basic formula is forget you know english...and start learning it from page 1.....
Though i feel CAT verbal is easier than gmat and for QA is vice versa....
Secondly, don't be anti-coaching. Join some test series of 1 or 2 reputed coaching centres as it will help you know your standing among the general pool of test takers. I don't know how it works now but when I took the CAT, after each test, the coaching faculty used to take us through the questions and solve them. It helped in learning some tricks. Also, I analyzed each section for 2 hours after any test, found out where and why I made mistakes and what could have been a possible shortcut for correct questions.
Hope this helped and all the best!
Well now everything is online...Coaching does provide analysis but online.....though its very through and deep....

Hi, You are right to an extent. But GRE wordlist is exhaustive. I know it's difficult and does not appeal the same to all alike. But, if u ask me I will prefer it for Vocab. I have found it useful and added plenty of words, till date. U can skip the RC part, though. Antonyms section is another good thing in it. As far as grammar is concerned, it's all abt basics and putting the same into practice. And yes, reading does help in almost all aspects.
A container is filled with mixture of milk and water. The Ratio of milk and water is same.Bobby and Sunny increases the concentration to 60%.Bobby makes it by adding the milk and Sunny makes it by replacing the mixture with milk. What is the percentage of milk added by bobby to that of milk replaced by sunny?

I'm also preparing for CAT 2012 (without any coaching :)). Recently left my job and now concentrating solely on my preparations. I have started rubbing my hand on Quants for Testfunda as I feel its the weekest section on my list. (I'm week in all 3 sections though :D)
I will be following Testfunda basics + Arun Sharma (all 3 section) and then throughly solving questions from TIME materials. Also I'm planning to join AIMCAT series and CL test series. And I hope this will be enough to help me prepare.
But I'm still stuck in finding a right stratergy to gain momentum. If I start with a topic in quants then the whole is used up to complete it.
Can any of you guys please share your preparation stratergy.
Well thats pretty decent reading material, Arun Sharma + One coaching material should do the trick. And as for the startegy, For VA u have to do a number of words daily and RC, both of which are available on TF and also go through the Newspaper daily For DI/LR - solve them on alternate days and it won't make much difference if u skip them once or twice a month as they are only to keep your mind sharp For Quant - Make a time slot on daily basis which you provide to quant, if the topic is taking too much time then break the topic in 2 days, so that u can have time for DI/LR and VA
as for me I'm also preparing without joining any coaching classes and I'll join AIMCAT later in june end. For Quant - i'm following arun sharma and TG material. After it I plan to go through the TIME material For VA - Daily RC passage from TF, wordlist from TF and Wren and Martin... though now I'm thinking I should change the book for grammar(any suggestion?) Later on I'll start preparing from Time material For LR/DI - Time material right now (3days each/week) and once I get a hold of CL proc mocks and past AIMCATs, I'll practice LR/DI from there..

Thanks punnet. I'm on the same lane. However sticking to the time-table is the only problem I face :P
For Basic Grammer, Wren & Martin with TIME prep. material is fine i guess. I'm using the same.
Well guys i am also on the same Track... preparing by myself let's see how this season turns out for all of us... i am pretty much hopeful that we all are gonna make big this year
Just begun my prep for CAT 2012. For material i am using the usual Arun sharma and TIME material (Lent by a generous senior:biggrin:). I have also taken up the AIMCAT series. But sticking to a time table without anyone to push ought to be a tough task as i am working as well. Somebody pls gimme some tips on how to stick to a schedule.
Hope i get a decent score in my first attempt of CAT.

First of all get hold of a book called Face to Face with the CAT by Arihant Publications . It contains the CAT questions divided by topic . Now divide the number of topics in each subject by the number of weeks of prep you have .assign one week to each topic. End of the week carry out an evaluation by cracking the CAT questions from that topic. Any other queries let me know or PM Me
Need your suggestion Regarding book :"Sentence Correction by Manhattan" As only 5 months are left for the CAT,how useful it will be to start this book now.
please suggestion as Countdown for CAT had already begun.
