Self Preparation without any coaching classes

First of all get hold of a book called Face to Face with the CAT by Arihant Publications . It contains the CAT questions divided by topic . Now divide the number of topics in each subject by the number of weeks of prep you have
.assign one week to each topic. End of the week carry out an evaluation by cracking the CAT questions from that topic. Any other queries let me know or PM Me

Good Luck

Tanveer,

Thanks for the info. I have started my prep using Arun Sharma. I have TIME's material too.

What I wanted to ask is how worthy is preparing using the book you have mentioned?

Thanks & Regards,
Preeti

Arent you people afraid that not joining coaching is dangerous,i am also thinking of joining only test series, but it gives me shivers when i see most aspirants are joining coaching,
whould self prep be enough or should i join only test series(1 or 2).do u know any person who has cracked cat only with self prep?

Yes Sir,I have cracked CAT with self preparation only and appearing for AIMCATs.Donot underestimate yourself buddy.U can do it urself what they teach in these coaching centres.Buy some books and materials and study them.Learn from your mistakes and donot repeat them.Take time bound tests and believe me you can.I studied for 3 hours everyday after office and it was enough.

I've been part of coaching classes from TIME,CL as well as IMS.Coaching classes helps but to a certain extent. The best part is the peer group you get.But CAT after all is an aptitude exam.It requires basic of everything. No over the top maths or tough English to solve.Just see the previous year questions and you will understand.
Have proper planning and prepare hard and not to forget join a test series to get the feel of the meow.

Yes buddy there are many who have cracked IIM's with self prep....Coaching classes are good because they give you a rythm to study...But if you can study devotedly..then you are good to go..

A useful link i want to share : tips from a 100 percentiler , Patrick Dsouza....Really helpful

Hi
Your words have been an inspiration. I sure do hope that self prep is enough. In my case due to odd working hours. coaching centers have not been able to accomodate me. I hope i can do well on my own

Add me to the group of guys doing self preps.
PG threads are going to be followed devotedly, lets see what happens
i have tried TIME material, too easy and in their tests its rocket science

PG threads are good though of very high standard for average ppl like me anyway, all the best to everyone. Hope u all crack it ppl

I guess we have to keep following it..

Hi Puys,

Some of us (including me) have said that we have had problems in enforcing strict discipline for CAT prep. I just found this CAT planner from the forums. I thought that using this planner would help us in enforcing self discipline. Also it will give an idea on how much more is left.

Even though its kinda late, i thought i still could share this. It will be of some help. All the best puys.

Hi,

I have been taking CAT for 3 yrs and finally this year have been at least waitlisted by MDI. My weaknesses at the beginning were in all 3 sections.
Reached 98.67 %ile from 70%ile during the struggle.

Here are my 2 cents on what free resources you can use (i am great follower of free resources  .I would want to suggest you minimum of resources as I used to get distracted by other books and materials, and being repetitive ate up most of my time )

VA - I found TF verbal package (can be bought separately) quite helpful for concepts in RC,CR,SC,PJ and grammar.
For parallel understanding of these concepts ,you can walk through verbal articles at Totalgadha.com
For practice of Parajumbles,Sentence correction PG threads are a good source
For practice CL sectional tests are good and Arun Sharma's verbal book is also good.

LR - TIME LR book ,TIME online sectional tests.
For further practice ,brain teaser/puzzle books by George Summers
These should be enough apart from full length tests.

DI - TIME DI book,TIME online sectional tests
For further practice , you can just practice with full length tests from any of TIME/CL/TF offline tests.(CL gives 22 offline full length tests)

Quant - For concepts you can follow articles at totalgadha.com
For practice you can start by completing TIME quant books and can follow PG quant thread. In all these 3 resources you will find quality and different questions.

\Hope this helps.
P.S: last year i did self preparation

Thanku very much your post ws quite helpful Sir
