You should join Infy and prepare side by side dont see any problem in your profile since people score pretty well in 8th sem so there is every chance you would improve your percentage and your profile is pretty good so if you could perform well in CAT you surely would get calls from IIMs so just continue preparing and try to get a good score in CAT 12 and ATB

There is no definite 10,12 or graduation score that can be considered as the cutoff. It is the cumulative score generally varying with the weightages that colleges give to these scores.

i am B.tech (civil) graduate from vellore institute of technology..passed out in 2010..i wanted to persue mba but couldnt manage in that year due to some issues..
following that i joined M.E program at Bits Pilani in that year as couldnt waste 1 yr for preparation by sitting at home..
but till now even after completing M.E i still think i should have done MBA..
1. would it be fine to prepare and apply for mba now?...are there guys who do MBA even after M.E?
2. do colleges accept such guys or it may be a negative point for me during interview time.
since my academic background is not that ground i particularly aim for top private institutions.

i am an electronics engineer passed out in 2011..but i didnt apply for any job as i was preparing for cat 2011 but unfortunately it went disasteorus now i have nothing in my hand..
so now i have planned to join any psu bank as po..and during that duration i want to clear my CFA level 1..& after 2 years i want to join goood mba college(finance) & during those 2 years i want to clear CFA level 2..& after then CFA level 3(probably after mba)..
so my questions are:
1.can i switch from banking sector to finance sector through cfa?
2.can i get good colleges like XLRI,FMS,NMIMS after clearing CFA L1..& 2 Years bank job so that my bad acads can be coped up?
3.can this bank job can be treated as work ex for applying in foreign business schools throgh gmat?

This u have to think abt buddy... In which sector u wanna make ur career..
Think abt a broad area atleast,,.. Finance, marketing, HR, IT, IB.....
and then think abt job option..

Hi ...your academics are good dude....see especially fr engineering grads marketing is quite good ...it depends on personal interests also ....most of the big brands as i have seen engineering+marketing in mba would be the rite option ....so think upon it ....ATB:)

1. Yes, you do stand a chance of getting calls from all the colleges mentioned by you in case you score well and clear their cutoffs. 😃
2. Well, how much work ex would be appropiate depends on the profiles you are aiming at post MBA. If looking forward to finance or marketing, then no point in increasing your work ex in IT Sector. Get the admission in the season whenever you make to the b-schools you are aiming at.
i gave cat 11 and scored 85 overall.i dont have any job right now and will complete my btech by the end of june 12.i wanna ask that will this gap year and my average academic record thwart my dream of getting into top bschools.
If you get through GDPI shortlists of colleges in upcoming season, then you will be a fresher who has passed in 2012 june, not many months ago and generally joining gets delayed as well. SO, there wont be any issue of year gap in my opinion. If you do not join any job by Feb - Apr 2013, then you can always come up with the justification of dropping the year to prepare for top B-Schools and not interested in the jobs you had in hand.
Also, if finding difficulty in finding a job, post your resume at job portals and you will surely get the response. Make a good CV ( means articulate it well ) before posting.

1. Yes, there are people who do so. But, you need to come up with the proper justification for the same , if asked the reason in PI.
2. Colleges do accept it , need not worry! 😃 Focus on preparation as of now and get good score to clear the cutoffs and fetch calls from reputed colleges.

2. Yes, you can get provided you clear their cutoffs in written exam, fetch the call and perform good in GDPI rounds. Only CFA wont ensure you getting into them.
3. Yes, it can be treated as work experience.

OK..so finally its the complete end of a CAT-astrophic season..just been rejected for one place I wanted so very badly..MICA..anyways whats done is dusted..I think I will rather look forward..the thing is I have no job..no work ex as such..I am a 2011 passout..sadly enough as an engineer..the thing I wanted to know is..that since the market doesn't seem to be in any sort of mood to present me with a job opportunity..I intend to join my father in his buisness instead of waiting & staying put at home..what bothers me is..I will definitely begin prepairing for CAT'12 once the mess in my head clears out..provided I do well in cat & other entrance exams..my prime aim shall always remain MICA..so here is my question that next time whenever I shall fill any form esp. the WORK-EX column..what do I write as my designation..I mean look my dad doesn't run some corporate kind of buisness..its a small scale firm..where he is the boss & the complete management..so will I be a MANAGEMENT TRAINEE or what..another thing is..working with my dad..I obviously wont be asking him for any salary or anything..so again the column of the INCOME shall come into perspective..
I seriously have zilch knowledge of these things..I will appreciate if any of you can help me with these things..in a real quandary right now..dunno why fate is playing such games..I appreciate your time & consideration to go through this post..thanks..

I did My grads in 2010, in BBA( Finance) and then joined IFBI for A PG diplma in banking. They had promised to give a job in ICICI in operations with 22k Salary. After completion They placed me in ICICI salt lake (on may 23td , 2011)but what I discovered was it was a hardcore sales job requiring me to sale atleast 2 Accounts and one other product everyday. Besides the salary was just 7500 Rs in training period (which could extend indefinetly at thier discretion). The distance from mt house to work place was roughly 5.5hoirs up and down. I left the job after 2.5 months.(around July end) IFBI did not give me any certificate of the PG diploma. Now I am in a mess coz I have sat for 1 govt exam, got a reasonably good marks but dont know what justification I wl give regarding dis break in interviews. I cannot say "I left the job co its a sales profile and I dint want such profile." Please guys help me frame a good answer and get me out of this problem. Thank You . 😃

In case of family business, ur workex certificate will be certified by ur father, who is the propreitor of the business. So the designation and salary can be anything that he (or you) want to mention. That's insignificant. On a personal note, in such cases, the panel would be more interested in knowing what you have done and learnt rather than the designation or salary u put on the paper.

1. Whether your bank work-ex will count towards work ex- Yes! the criteria for admission to foreign MBA programs is 2 years work ex. They donot discriminate on basis of line on work ex but rather on basis of quality, so anyone who can show to the selection board that he or she has good quality work-ex in relevant field will have a chance to gain admission.
2. Regarding poor acads- poor acads don't reflect good on a c.v however this can be overcome by showing that after that you have been able to fulfill what is required of you to the best of your ability, in the work that has been given to you in your professional field.
As I can see only your 12th percentage is lower than average, you should make this up by excelling at your job and overshadow it.
