Sitting idle... need advice? What to do in current situation!

@[586108:Fuhgetaboutit] Huge chances. Tier 2 Bschools are full of students with average graduation marks. Prepare well nothing can stop you if you keep faith. 😃

@[504305:bonga] - Dude 1st thing...dont freak out, everythings gonna be fine. i think u shud get the job and also study for CAT 2012 alongside. Dont worry about the workexp man it dsnt matter tht much as confidence and willpower does . look it is very simple the evaluators will only look for people who are clear in their head about wat dey want to achieve in life and their goals and stuff. Dont worry ppl with workex dnt always get in gud colleges , its d will n desire tht helps u to get thier. and remember watever u did in ur past just let dem knw about it with open mind nothin will happen . Cheers!!

Guys dont worry about not having workex. jus plan wat u want to do in the future instead of worrying about the mistakes in the past . Workexp ....no wprkex. it hardly matters if ur confident about urself.

hi guys.first of all thx to the person who started this forum, atleast we come to know there are many people like us.now here goes my story

i was a bright student in school and college
more than 85% in 10th 12 th. after 12th did b.tech bioinformatics 1yr with distiction bt had to leave it due to financial difficulties.
passed BSc chem 2009 - 73 %,was pretty tough as was going thru the toughest time in personal life .i had to change my house multiple times just before my final exams, sum1 close to me died and i entered depression, and my family was planning to change the city forever-everything was devastating me.
then began the rat race .appeared 4 all mba entrances -screwed all cat -50 percentiles even cet was screwed.still managed a part time PG diploma in HR from welingkars 2009-10.since then everythng went wrong.worked with a HR recruitment consultancy but left it after a month(didnt liked the recruitment profile and was completely disturbed)
applied and got selected in wipro as a project engineer- had a bond for 2 years and had to change cities after few months + was a night job-so didnt take it,biggest mistake i made.appeared for CAT 10 and again screwd up big time -40-50%ile
initially i had a lot of problem with idea of relocationg anywhere outside my city MUMBAI but then i had to relocate to pune because of my parents wish.my parents had retired so we had to shift to PUNE outskirts which added to my depression
.since last 1 yr i am trying and adapting here in PUNE n with the culture-it is a task 4 me.i was and i am depressed plus confused as to what to do with my life.
so practically i graduated in 2009 and have no work ex nothing in hands.trying for jobs now but am getting calls from BPO's and some recruitment jobs.
i always wanted to do MBA in HR.but wuld like to explore marketing also.yet to decide.
this year appeared for CET, again screwed 87/240
i am already 25 with no work ex n no MBA.now i am confused what to do?
1)shuld i settle for any college i get in pune
2)get into some job and prepare again.if yes which jobs shuld i go in for?
3)shuld i go for bank po jobs(which also requires preparation)
4)how shuld i justify the gap years?

what should i do?suggestions advices welcome.plz help

Hi

Having read the above, first of all i would like to say that tough phases are encountered by everyone in life. There are many who might have faced worse than what you have, but making a come back in life is where the tru spirit lies and am sure that you too will definitely make a comeback. :)

Coming to the queries:

1. No, need not settle for any college in Pune apart from the decent ones like SIBM and SCMHRD.

2. Yes, this seems the best option in my opinion. Get into job and prepare with full throttle this time. Getting into job will help you in quite a few ways and help in overcome the factors of past that held you back.

You can try posting your CV at sites like monster as well as there are IT companies that hire Science graduates these days for role of S/W engineer and you can try these. 😃

3. Bank PO is one of the options but wont suggest at this stage when CAT is knocking. Reason being that you should be focussed only on CAT preparation at this point of time and try to make best out of this shot. 😃 Also, fill forms apart from CAT , like XAT, SNAP and IIFT.

4. It can be justified, need not worry at this stage. Once GDPI time begins for colleges, then this can be prepared. 😃

Feel free to post any more doubt that comes in mind.

Cheers and All the best!

Hello guys, I'm 2011 BE pass-out with first class(60%) on Degree and 53% aggregate...
X: 84% , XII 79% ... Scored 90% in CAT 2010 and secured seat in IIM Ranchi, but was not confident of clearing my BE and hence withdrew my admission from there... In CAT 2011 I scored 47%, so there was no chance anywhere... Now screwup is, I have been sitting idle for a year now, did not get job... If I plan to give CAT 2012 then it'll be almost 2 years of GAP after my graduation and I'm not sure how to justify that during GD/PI even if I secure good % in this CAT ... I'm looking out for Job too to show some workex but its really difficult for Mech engg here to get descent job... What should I do now ? I have not started preparation for CAT 2012 yet ...

someone plzz help me with my query posted as #462.I need it urgently.

@meashish001 said: Hi guys i am Ashish.I will be completing my B.E in electronics and telecomm stream this august from a average private college in Pune(probably with 62% aggregate).I got placed in infosys but my joining date is 18 june 2013.There is almost a year left.I am not interested in higher studies right now.I don't want to waste my 1 year sitting idle. I have planned to move back to Pune.I am very much interested in govt jobs like Bank P.O and staff selection .So i have decided to prepare for these exams from some coaching institute and take some certification courses like Java,Sql.At the same time i am thinking of getting a job.But still i am not sure whether i am doing the right thing bcoz:1.Is finding a job offcampus easy?I don't know anything about this other than uploading your resumes on job sites and giving Elitmus test.ANY OTHER SUGGESTION FROM YOUR SIDE.2.IBPS bank P.o exams and ssc exams will be held next june.even if i crack these exams next year. The interview dates will fall within my bond period at infosys and i won't be able to join these jobs(fine for breaking the bond is too large). Can i prepare for these exams while i am in infosys(after completing my bond period). How to manage time (I've heard that IT jobs are too hectic).ANY OTHER SUGGESTION.3. IS THIS THE BEST POSSIBLE WAY TO UTILIZE MY IDLE TIME.PLZZZ HELP .i am not able to concentrate on the two upcoming exams of Hindustan petroleum and Coal india limited because the thought of sitting idle for 1 year is eating me.
1. Finding a job off-campus is not easy as compared to the in-campus. Reason : Competition outside is with students across the nation which is not the case in the campus.

2. Yes, the way to get a job is to upload your resume on job sites apart from the various national level examinations that are held.

3. I would suggest you not to think of so many things at a time. Try chosing a career which interests you. It can be Management, IT, Banking, etc.. Be it anything, but focus only on one goal.

4. Since you have 1 year of idle time left, I would suggest you to give a shot at MBA Exams this season if you are interested for higher studies after working for some time in Infosys. Hard work never goes waste.

5. Once you join Infosys, you will def get busy but not to a level that you can't prepare for any exams. Thousands of students join Management Colleges every year after having worked in Infy, TCS, etc..

6. Hope this helps. Get back for any further query.

I am BE ( CSE ) passed out in 2009 ,but cleared in 2011.... Just after i completed my college in 2009 due to peer pressure i went searching for jobs and i went to a job like night shifts , it wasnt a well established BPO , but a startup firm , after sometime they closed the company and they settled us a amount ..we didnt even get work exp certificate....then i realised i made a mistake and started studying for exams and cleared the papers in 2011...

But in 2010 i invested some money in Trading as i thought i could get some money monthly from it before i clear the exams and get a job ..As time passed by , now 2012 , now i have a confidence and learned how to trade the markets ...now i am 24....i have a younger bro , my parents are both retired ..i am planning to get married atleast by 27-28 ...For a long run i need to get a job ..I am preparing for Bank and Govt exams , if i get any of them , i would happily go to it ..But till then i need to get a job ...

I have heard many students after their college who dont get placed .go to some training institutes and finish he courses to get certified and the company arranges placements with MNC ..Do any of u here know any kinda centres in Chennai ... Also in the long run i want to have carrer growth and also positions thorughout country and off country, so which technology would be better .. Dot net , Java or Oracle ..

hi,
Its never late than ever..I am certain that these two years have taught u something that made you to take an action about your future...Whatever may be the reasons...start ur preparation right now...if ur aiming for MBA...try this year!...or try something that interests you.

Here goes my story and need some genuine advice too..
I am 2011 passout from a Government college.. got placed in a core company as I do not wanted to follow any rat race of joining IT ( regretting for that). Once i joined This company all my dreams shattered.. U know how manufacturing firms are.. N worst for girls.. My profile sucks, my office sucks, my boss is an a******. Regularly see my frns of IT sector posting there weekend pics and me working even on sundayz..
Anywayz I always had this keeda of cat and decided to appear for cat this time.. But with pathetic office conditions I decided to quit and prepare..But coz my parents did not allowed me to quit as they are apprehensive about me clearing CAT i decided to go on a medical leave.. So here am I.. living alone in an unknown city preparing for cat..Working hard for the life I always imagined..
Need advice from u guyz as my parents want me to resume my job after oct (my med leave end there) coz of financial and not sure what problems..But I dont wana go for that torture again..even have some imp exams in nov dec/ wat kinda job shud I luk for the time being as any MBA college will have sessions from june.. Dont wana sit idle (atleast my parents dont want me to).

Hey puys , I recently completed my engineering. I am currently not working. I am planning to appear for cat 2013, will my no work-ex and a year gap be an obstacle for my getting through any reputed b school. If so how can I avoid this. Please help me in this regard.

@[608760:jai06] Though your one year of gap won't hamper your chances much, but then the interviewer would be seriously interested in knowing what exactly you did in this 1 year.
So, I would suggest you to start looking for a JOB. It may not be high paying and demanding but then full employment is always an added advantage. You could also look for working with any NGOs or small IT companies or ADV. agencies.

@[448438:anudsweet] Working in a Core Company will be good for you and I would give you 2 reasons why it is good
1) Majority of Applicants in any top colleges are from IT background. So, your work-ex in a core company would give you that added advantage and an edge over other IT guys. Don't leave you job.
2) The learning in any core company is better when compared to an IT company. You'll be a hot property during the Campus also because companies who gives Operations/SCM profile would be looking for candidates like you. It would open new door of opportunities.
So, my sincere advice would be to continue with your job and prepare hard for CAT. Its a matter of another 6 months only and if you get through a good college, you obviously would be leaving the company :)
