Loads of loser stories,,thought i should add my own.. :)
May 2009..Graduated from NIT Calicut with flying colours,,handful of placements,,but damn the recession,,no joining dates,,finally joined Accenture in december 2009,,quit my 4 lac Accenture job,,to prepare for CAT 2009.
CAT 2009..messed up..94 percentile..got a re-test option,,dint take it.
Got a lucky awesome breakthrough job as a journalist in an international newspaper in the Middle East,,worked for six months,,quit that 11 lac job,,to be back in India,,because that's were i saw my future..
July 2010..started out with Syntel.worked there for 12 months,,quit my 4.5 lac syntel job,,to prepare for the friggin CAT 2011..
July to October..loads of 99.xx in aimcats,,
October 28th, evening slot..CAT happened..Section 2 sucked.
In short: Everything I have done in the last 3 years has been towards making it into one of the IIMs..I don't mean to brag or show-off,,but I have been lucky that I don't have to support anyone with my salary,,which affords me the luxury of quitting jobs at will..But, sometimes, it hurts that i still haven't got to where I belong, despite always always always being 90% plus at school..and pretty good in mocks..
Damn! 😞
Well i am in the same situation as yours. 2011 passout
N if u can get expirience certificate n salary statements. yes it will count as experience.
i think just an experience xprnc certi should suffice as if u r doing ur own business, u wont be having a salary slip ofcourse... though i am not sure
I am glad there's a thread for this and I ll be really grateful if someone could help me...
heres my story:
I finished BE in june 2011 with miserable marks...as a result could not get a placement from college...got a job(off campus) but the job profile sucked so didnt go for it...
came home and started preparing for CAT...took CAT on 16th nov...section 2 sucked big time...no hope of getting a good percentile...took IIFT entrance-not selected...have SNAP tmrw and havent prepared anything specifically for it and have NMAT scheduled for the 22nd of december and god only knows what'll happen...
I have the following questions:
1) What reasons can I give the interviewer(in case I get an interview call) about the 6-7 months break?
2) Will a full time faculty job in a coaching institute count as work experience?(I havent still got a job but have applied for it)
3)What are my chances with this profile?
average acads
no work experience
nothing in extra curricular and co curricular activities
Pls puys guide me...
Thanks to vision bhai for opening this thread.
This will definitely be the biggest loser story posted so far.
I passed out of a good govt college in 2009 with bad acads and many backpapers. Wrote cat 2008 and got 80 percentile. :nono:
DoJ for the IT job i got through campus placement was pretty late. So wrote cat 2009, got 94 %ile. Didn't join any college.
Joined Accenture in Jan 2010. Work was good, liked the atmosphere very well. Prepared for cat alongside. Around Sep, appeared for the recruitment process of another company and got through. The package was good and resigned from Accenture. The biggest mistake I've done in my life.
Wrote cat 2010 carelessly, and joined the new company in Dec 2010. Work atmosphere was not good. Had some problems at home as well.
Cat results came, got 99.01, and resigned after 3 months at the job. Got calls from the new IIMs, didn't appear for the interview thinking I will ace cat 2011 and join IIM C.. I had not appeared to any other colleges too. . Could have got into many good colleges had i applied.
Came back home, the place i have now come to dislike the most. Working as a faculty at one coaching institute. Now in a depressed state, as news of friends going places (IIMs, US, Austria, Norway, Dubai and the likes) come in. Thinking about everything a sane person should not think. Just wanting to get out of this place. Cat preps took a back seat. Cleared some PSU's and SBI PO written tests, screwed up some interviews, waiting for some of the results. Wrote cat 2011, not a convincing performance.
Have applied for GATE 2012 as some companies use that score for recruitment. Hoping to see some green light. Want to get a job asap, clear my head, get senses back again, tell myself that 2011 was just a bad year and be hopeful about the future once again.
Now that's my story.
dude..all i know is this:
a person scoring 99 percentile in cat CANNOT be a loser!!!!
4-6 mahine break wale logon, darao mat :| 😞 yahan 2 saal ka KIT-KAT break hai
someone
Anyways I will suggest to do some certification courses, they will surely cover-up a bit. Me too currently doing some from Ncfm.

Only paid experience is count. So he have to show that by some way or other.

1. 6-7 months break is not a big issue. Once can always give ' preparation' as the sole reason as well. Along with this, if one has been part of some small activity like working with NGO, any certification etc then it would add more in your favor.
However, as per past trends and results, profs taking interviews also know that people take break of 6-7 months for preparation of getting into coveted B-Schools, so this much break is not considered as a major drawback to hinder your conversion chances. :)
2. Yes, it would be counted as valid work ex. if you were paid as well 😃
3. Predicting chances is tough but yes, you do have a strong chance o converting if you have good GDPI except in few colleges where very high weightage is given to strong academics and extra currics.
All the best!
hey guys
while sitting idle, i came across a reading material - not for any exams but for all of us who are sitting idle. Its called 'Generation Jobless" - a series of articles published on WSJ (wall street journal) website. It contains useful research on career / job trends/practices and rationale around them. it will help you re-orient your strategy based on some hitherto unknown research.
good luck!
PLS HELP.
i passed my B.Tech in june 2011, and till now(6 month have passed) i am sitting at home, not doing any job, I was placed in Campus at Accenture and joining hasnt come yet(will be in Jan probably)
Will it hamper my admissions in India as well as abroad for MBA or MSc in Finance.
i am doing prep for CFA L1, can i use this to justify for this 6 months??
what else can i do or say to justify this 6 months period??
Hi,
I am a B.E graduate in CSE, having work experience of 14 months ins TCS.. Doing MBA was decided by me way back wen i was in school.. hence I opted for Engineering after my +2 thinking that an engineer degree would fetch me a job (immediately) during/after B.E and add to WORK EXP as it is a selection criteria. All went accordingly and now being in TCS seems like "where the hell am I? Is this JOB EXPERIENCE I had planned to take before getting a MBA degree?". So I am saying tata (resign) to TATA. Now,
with so many engineers already around, I feel like "Another brick in the wall". With my area of interest being OPERATIONS, long term career field i would prefer Retail/SCM and also Consulting (10 years down the line after MBA).
Could you please suggest any extra factors (certifications/part-time bt specific field jobs/courses) I can add to my profile before facing GD/PI so that it makes me stand out of those "bricks" ???
Failure is the first step for success.......
I did Engineering from a decent clg this year and finally got placed in Essel Shyam(core EC)........profile that I got never suited me seeing my interest( was turning into a machine man:biggrin:)...and the desire to be PG in business alwas pricked me from my early days of b tech.
So left the job in early sep. (almost 3 months ex)
CAT 2010 ws a disaster got just 75%ls......
Last night I had breakup with my GF....and frankly speaking feeling quite free and relieved .......
acha did decent in my CAT 11 expect >90%....will go for MBA for sure.....
searching for the job from the C day itself but couldn't get one...
Now m planning to join the BPO as it will fetch me something in bucks and might be alws helpful in ma comm skills!!!!!.....
Any advises plzzz......
and girls m ready for thunder down under ones again lolzz
complted b pharm in 2010...sat idlefor whole year preparin exams...got calls for 3 clges thru snap..cldnt cnvrt loose marginaly...nw parents wanted tont tocomprise wid low wage jobs bein offered in pharmaceuticals industry..so anthr year tried hard but snap took away all my dreams wid adisaster paper..
nw itwill a 2 year gap...
i m in a doubt as to comprise wid low ranked clges thru mat feb...
or i should prepare again takin a job in sum consultancy(as itwld b easier to get in).?..
n secondly if i do get a chance in siib agri,n sims..so how to justify my gap...
n what if i manage to get a certificate of work ex in sum event company..will this kind of risk is managble?
plz advise...
hi guys please help
i have done b pharm 2008 batch, had 2 years work ex in marketing then left job for mba entrance preparation in feb 2011.
my predicted score iift 27, snap 54, nmat 179
i am unable to find out reason for my failure & unable to find out that inspite covering all material from time class & for some topics from quantum cat by sarvesh kumar sharma, why my score was low
now i am very depressed doesnt feel studying any more or sometimes feel that may be doing mba from good college is not my cup of tea & i am totally confused how to move ahead or wheather i should make a compromise &take; admission to any college or should i start searching my job again.
my some friends are suggesting me to go for mh cet with full preparation
but inside i am totally broken that after a gap of almost a year i am not able to reach anywhere
sorry guys for such a long boring story to tell but kya karu i cant control myself from pleaseeeeeeeeeee help me
Hi guys nice to see this thread..:)
Here goes my story..
I graduated from MIT manipal, and i am working in a core company not psu though..I am giving cat since 2009 though i was never serious about it..its only now when my family member started forcing me to get married, i realised i am nt prepared enough...so i started preparing for cat this year and put a lot of hard work and was sure of getting in a reputed Bschool but smhow i screwed my second section..now i dont knw what will happen..i have 2 years of work ex in electrical domain..i am desperate to quit my job..and ppl here and work culture suffocates me to core..did nt get a call from iift and snap 2011 was disaster...dont know what will happen in 2012..m too tensed..
Hey here is another looser...
I graduated from Andhra University(2009) and was immediately placed in Wipro. But i opted for a private steel plant as a senior engineer.Package was good, partys, pubs, night bars in mumbai...lyf was colourful for an year..days passed and work hectic,bossism,frustration..finally decided to quit and resigned on 12 july 2011.(Exactly the day i joined the company).I studied hard for CAT'11 ...missed IRMA with sucking 1%ile in one section...NMAT'200(had no hope of getting a cal) and IIFT is a disaster...now eagerly waiting for my CAT'11 results...if i dont make it this time..i wil be completely f*ckd up......
Nice initiative.........It feels good to see that I not the only one sitting idle at home :)
Here goes my story....
I did my engineering (don't know why) and later on joined the biggest IT company of India..... But the work profile that I got was pathetic...... I always knew that I did not want to make my career in IT, but still I continued working in the company.... I simply didn't have courage and confidence to get a new job and start fresh for making my career in finance........ Thus I kept on doing my job for almost 2 years....... But then with each passing day my frustration went on increasing..... In the end decided to do mba and prepared for it..... At the end of bond period I resigned from my company.......Luckily, I got decent percentile in CAT but got screwed big time in all other exams......
My CAT performance gave me confidence and I decided to prepare for CFA Level 1...... since I didn't have any finance background, I decided to concentrate fully on preparing for CFA and did not search for any job....... I thought I will be able to convert atleast one call........ I got calls from 4 top colleges of India, but was not able to convert a single call......... Also missed JBIMS by 10 marks....... Seeing all this, I had lost all hope..... Then came the good news... I had passed my CFA level 1 exam..... So forgetting all the failures I decided to give CAT and other exams again and so started searching for job ( in finance).......But its been three months, I did not even get a call for interview........
So if anyone of the puy has been through similar situation, then please suggest how should I justify this gap........ Till june, I can say I prepared for CFA Level 1....... but then I will have to justify what I did after that..... Currently I am doing another certification in finance and attending a workshop for it.....I am going to again start my job search after CAT and simultaneously start my preparation for CFA level 2 - June 2012...
PS: I don't regret resigning from my previous job........ I tried my best to get a job after june... Also since I am learning more about finance ( in which i want to make my career) with each passing day, in that sense I am satisfied.... I am posting here, so that I can justify this properly in my MBA interviews.....I want to know how can I put this in front of interview panel without sounding arrogant or irresponsible.....
Wow...This is so very much similar to my current situation except the fact that i will be quitting my job in a month's time.
So Vision bhai, i could use some help here, from you as well as from others. I am a BE graduate, 2011 batch and i am working in an IT company as a Java Developer for the past 6 months. I was never interested in such a job profile. My interests have always been to be an analyst in finance or operations. So, here is the plan. I quit my company by jan 31st, prepare for GMAT and do a few courses simultaneously which can help me get a job as an analyst in any of the above mentioned sectors. The problem is i dont know what courses to go ahead with. I was planning on doing the CFA level 1 but then again i read in one of the threads that only a CFA level 1 certification wont get me a job. I will have to go for CFA level 2 as well. My plan was to score well in GMAT, work in a company for around 3 yrs (finance sector ofcourse) and go for an MBA in Finance. Now, if you will, please give me some advice as to what certifications should i go for (job as well as career development perspective) and which companies can i aim for through those certificates. Yes, i am desperate.

This will be the case with every sector you work in. IT, Finance, etc. everywhere people have the same feeling. This is not the reason that you should quit and do MBA. Because who knows after MBA what will happen. Have a thought again -- What you wish to achieve at the end of the day?

Sorry Boss I do not agree with U.
Not all the fields are same and they are not made for everyone.
U need to understand what u like. U need to do ur own set of study to find that out. Also, it takes a courage to follow it.
Else u will end up with a crying that my work is boring.
U need to love what u do ...!
I understand there are always constrains but that does not mean u stop following ur dream....
For some the destination and path together are dream , for some destination is important, for some path is ..!
