I am an btech 2012 graduate.I gave cat this year,and faired very badly, 67%ile.i have been selected by iiswbm(mhrm programme) and another private mba college in kolkata.I am unsure about what to do.I dont have any work experience,nor searching maly for jobs on job portals is fetching me one.At this position i dont know whether i should join one of the two colleges offered,or again give cat next year or forget cat and do some other certificate courses and get sum job.Will a 2012 passout without work exp get problem in 2014 cat clg interviews?

The current situation of MBA is not what it used to be, so think clearly about the return on investment factor before joining any bschool. What you can do, is stop wasting time behind the job portals and try and see if you can land a job in either banking sector, LICI sector or try for SSC, perhaps. Attend the referral drives of companies too. There are many options in the market for a btech grad other than his/her domain too. Secure a good job first and then you can clearly analyse your career planning and then apply for MBA.
@banu2312 Hi banu ...
A follow up question to Kingshukstat's question ...
You told Kingshuk to spend free time when not studying for CAT by working in an NGO or learning a foreign language.

How about studying for CAT and if possible working part time as an a apprentice in a role..which would be similar to what one would do post MBA (Eg: For someone(who's in IT now) looking to pursue MBA in Finance , a pre MBA role in Finance ( This will get help one to understand the various aspects of business .Also, later if possible for CFA ). .. Do you think this would be a better option .

Thanks
@GMAT_Conquer I have zilch knowledge if one can acquire any such role without an MBA. Besides, part time jobs are two edged swords. First they would take your attention and focus away from the task you assign yourself to, second, it will not count as full time exp to support your cause in the interview.

But that is purely my opinion.
@GMAT_Conquer But I've also heard that internships do help. At least it shows you've done something productive in this year.
@banu2312 I bliv one can get into such a role with a lot of networking and using contacts in that particular industry ..I understand part time jobs won't count as full time experience ..but do you think part time+ngo+learning a language would help ..? I knw it would certainly take away someone's attention from the goal....but I bliv this is possible....

Also,I think post MBA employment would be easier ...since recruiters look at your pre MBA exp....Since someone has worked in a role similar to a post MBA role ..In this context,I mean pursuing MBA in overseas schools....what do you think? Thanks!!
@Kingshukstat Yes,even I think so . But ,it applies more when u pursue MBA at a B-school abroad than it does in India. In my case,I am applying to US schools. B-schools abroad don't hv companies coming for placement ...there u find a job more by meeting people from the industry and networking a lot !!! So,I bliv in this context a pre MBA job,even though it's a part time job would help later to find a job after MBA ...
@GMAT_Conquer What exactly do you mean by pre MBA jobs?
@Kingshukstat I meant a part time internship
@banu2312 thanks a lot for ur help

@GMAT_Conquer But those are pretty hard to get. You need a hell lot of contacts.
@Kingshukstat ya,I know
@dpksingh Hi buddy... I understand how difficult it should be .... Even i left the job to take CAT but scored 93% ... But the thing i did is , i searched for a job and joined too before the results.. But the atmosphere i am in now really daunts me as i am used to much much professional atmosphere .. But , it is all the choices we make.. Don't feel devastated , this risk which you took will help you all your life... You would have become courageous by this time ..... For reasons , give some family blah blah blah and sit in a job... But don't think that you have done a mistake.... All is well.... Hope this helps...

hi guys ......can anyone tell me is there any short course available for mechanical engineer.i got graduated last year, took a year gap to mainly concentrate for cat-12 and unfortunately got bumped .it would be great if someone helped................. need really advice

hi guys !!! i graduated in 2012 and took an year break to prepare for cat but got dismal scores. should i take another year break to prepare for cat i don't have a job right now. i have converted insurance business management at bimtech. should i take up the call or should i take a break for another year and prepare for cat........need an advice !!!

I am currently in graduation final year, my course will be completed by may. When Am i eligible to write Bank PO exam. Which months is it conducted. Are we supposed to write exam for each bank separately ?
Hi everyone,

I am little confused about my further studies and hence need guidance...Here is my profile which is below average.

10th- 50% cbse (2003)
12th- 66% cbse (2005)commerce
Grad- 42% B.comp Delhi univ.(correspondence) (2009)
Grad repeated- 73% B.com Pass (correspondence from tier3 univ.) (2012)

Work ex- small family garment business 3 years( but b schools wont consider it.)

I have taken CAT this year but didnt get any fruitful result, now i am little double minded weather to do a professional study like CA or continue with CAT prep for coming season.

I know both are very succesful degree/certificates ..but few negative things that are coming to my mind considering my week profile.

MBA- Even if i get call from good colleges in the coming season how will i convert them with this profile, more over since both my graduations were in correspodence they will consider it as no work ex though i joined my family business later.

CA- Mandatory internship for 3 years with less than 5k salary per month. Also this is the minimum that to be a CA it can take 4 or 5 years to if i dont clear it in my 1st attempt.

At present my age is 25, so even age is also not in my side.

So kindly help me seniors, people who have gone through this, people who are at similar condition or anyone.

Thanks in advance.
