(2012)Work ex- small family garment business 3 years( but b schools wont consider it.)I have taken CAT this year but didnt get any fruitful result, now i am little double minded weather to do a professional study like CA or continue with CAT prep for coming season.I know both are very succesful degree/certificates ..but few negative things that are coming to my mind considering my week profile.MBA- Even if i get call from good colleges in the coming season how will i convert them with this profile, more over since both my graduations were in correspodence they will consider it as no work ex though i joined my family business later.CA- Mandatory internship for 3 years with less than 5k salary per month. Also this is the minimum that to be a CA it can take 4 or 5 years to if i dont clear it in my 1st attempt. At present my age is 25, so even age is also not in my side.So kindly help me seniors, people who have gone through this, people who are at similar condition or anyone. Thanks in advance.
@VivekMuralidhar said:@sri1290@anurag610 Search for a job and sit in one . Your preparation for the previous will surely help you in the present. I suggest to take a job because , the pressure it mounts on you will be enormous as there would not be any certainty on admissions. And when you are facing interviews , you will be asked on the work you did for the past 2 years , as it would be next year . If your family is financially stable , accept whatever work that comes to you and keep your sole purpose is to learn. If finance is a problem and there are any sustainability problems, do try for a good job . As you both are 2012 pass outs, opportunities are still open.. Be an eagle to grab the snake!!!!!! Hope this helps ... All the Best to you two!!!!!!!!
@VivekMuralidhar said:@naga13 Are you going to expand your business after MBA ?? If that is what you are planning , honestly speaking MBA is not that much necessary according to me , given your doubts on profile. Hard work of 3 years or 2 years in the business will make you a different person altogether. CA seems to be a better option according to me . What i feel is, you can continue in your business , pursue CA in parallel and excel. All prospective MBAs have to end up in entrepreneurship someday. Who knows , you may become a person who recruits MBAs for your now small garment business but then big one. All the Best!!!!!!!
on the other side if i prepare for mba then with this profile which top 40 colleges can i target?
Firstly, CAT is uncertain my friend. Even 95+ percentiles may make you to wait for another year. Please don't take that i am pessimistic but the possibilities that the profile may play the spoil sport as the graduation marks are considered in the final selection. So a sure selection calculation may go in vain.
Secondly, i heard that even in placements graduation marks are considered. It is not a selection criteria but a tool to filter out the candidates in the same level. But the thing is once you get the certification(MBA) you can always get a job with your contacts and stuffs. It all depends on us. I told about the campus placements.
On the other hand , CA's preparation is definitely individualistic as far as i have heard. So the sequence is you work hard , clear and get comfortable. The demand is also more. My uncle is in a big mining company as Senior finance officer. He has the same profile as yours . But he cleared in the second attempt. He is living a comfortable life and he is in a position to start his own concern .
Please don't take it that i am siding with CA for you which may not be your desire. But the scenarios i am seeing and facing with CAT and MBA prompts me to put before you these points. And it is for your information i have mentioned the scenarios. Pardon me if i have been judgemental.
Confusions are better when they come earlier in life. Analyze well and decide my friend . Nothing is impossible in this world but at the same time it is important to weigh the options and play with them having complete control on the outcomes.
All the best for your future!!!!!!
@VivekMuralidhar said:@naga13 I am really not sure how correspondence qualifications are considered in the top schools in the country. If it is on equal terms with regular , you can target IIMs . BPO Experience is def counted and entertained.
There is nothing disadvantage as such. You might be asked about the specific work that you were doing. And how you managed the Negative Sides of a BPO Job.
Hey guys, plzz help me outI am pursuing BBA from Lucknow University final semester, gave CAT 2012 this but the result was not good , want to have another go at CAT 2013 but I do not know what will I do in this one year gap.... any suggestions???
Use this time and work hard to score as high as possible in CAT 2013. You can think about how to justify the Gap once you get GD/PI Calls.
Or Else, if you can manage preparation along with a Job, search for any job which can fulfill your Basic Pocket Money Needs and continue preparing for MBA Exams.. !!

Hello everyone..
I am 2012 BE(E&TC;) passout and took a drop to prepare for MBA entrance exams but couldn't make it to top 20-25..Now I am looking for a job and will chase Mba once again after a year or two..Interested in marketing..
My question is what kind of job should I look for ?I am finding it a bit difficult to get into engineering sector..What if I look for a job in sales and marketing sector..as it is a bit easier..If yes what kind of job profile, companies should I look for? Please enlighten me on this.
Any source ,link and job board especially related to marketing are welcome..
Is Bank PO considered a good job before applying for MBA ?
hi guys !!! i graduated in 2012 and took an year break to prepare for cat but got dismal scores. should i take another year break to prepare for cat i don't have a job right now. i have converted insurance business management at bimtech. should i take up the call or should i take a break for another year and prepare for cat........need an advice !!!
If you want to take CAT next yr, you should join a company very soon...Being jobless for more than one year is not preferred by top B schools. If you think, you deserve a better B school, look for a job and take CAT next year. If you are content with bimtech, you can very well join. Its up to you to make a good decision...
the following is my friend's profile:-X: 86.13%XII:80.33%Grad Extc Engg: 64.00% (Due to a kt in 7sem and the only kt earned a Pass Class) Graduated 2012Since he was not interested in IT, stayed at home to prepare for CAT but got mere 82 percentile but at the same time was working as a private tutor. He is depressed wishes to give CAT again, but 1 more year of private tutor job will prove a problem, right ?During interview and summer placements he will be considerd as jobless for 2 years. Please need some advice, he is in real mess !!!!!!!!
If he manages to score above 99+ next year, the private tutoring job shouldn't be a big problem but still to be on the safer side, he can look for a better job and prepare harder for CAT next year !!!
Hi
@visionIIM-ACL n fellow puys
I have 2 years of work ex as software developer, bt last year in feb i left my job to pursue CAT. i scored 97.05 percentile n got calls for interview from some gud management colleges bt unfortunately i couldnt convert any of them ( still trying to find out the reasons for such a dismal performance).
Portfolio Details:
XI : 80.13
XII : 66.00
Bsc(IT) : 74.68
CAT : 97.05
Extra Curriculum : Nil
After all of this is over, now i am looking for a job.i have got a job in IT sector with my current work experience(not joining) bt i am looking for some job in marketing / business development sector(since i have inclination towards marketing),
Now my questions:
1. will the gap of 1 year in my profession will matter during my mba selection?
2. how is it going to be to get a job in different industry after 2 yrs of work ex in IT sector?
3. any career suggestion from ur side will be really appreciated
4. Any help in getting job is really appreciated
I have completed B.E(CSE) , but I am interested in finance. Is there any way in which I can get a job in stock brokerage firm ?
Hi, I did electrical engineering(passed out in 2010 with 75%), worked from aug 2010 to june 2012 in an IT company(MSat) as a software developer, was also part of the company's internal event management team. I then pursued a post grad diploma in event mngmnt and media from july 2012 to may 2013(present). At the same time I worked in an event management company from sept 2012 to march 2013. Presently I am unemployed. With the kind of credentials I have, my parents expect me to earn atleast 25k a month. But the event field, for my experience hardly pays 12k/month. I was advised to take up an mba/ job as a hr recruiter. I have scored 90% in 10th(CBSE), 80% in 12th(pre university). Kindly share your inputs, on what my next step is to be.
