well i am just a little confused regarding my future. I am in my final year engg, was doing well in my mocks and everything and expected above 90 in Cat anded up with 56 ( shocker) then now i have option of either dropping a year and give it another shot or join SITM or SIOM ( if I get a call, hopefull) ..... what do you suggest ..... and also which out of these would give better placement for freshers.....
please help
Sun shine SaysWell SAP is a good option....Certification is good but have many disadvantages...
Well am working as sap consultant....SAP certification require good amount of money ,yes you can opt for SAP certificate and and not certification....After having certification there is no such guarantee that you will be placed as a consultant.....sap requires good amount of experience...very difficult to get entry level job in sap....so certification should be taken seriously....
Hello Puys!!
Came across the right thread at the right time!
Going through the most confusing phase of my life.. Would be an engg graduate in 2 months..screwed CAT this time.. faired decent in IIFT and SNAP .. So feel should give it another chance!
But I am in a dilemma that should I just take a drop and prepare or I should move out of my town, join somewhere and then prepare simultaneously..
I am a COmp Sci engg but have no intentions at all to join an IT firm..
i can try my hands on business analysis or some consultancy firm..
But then I think that those 4-5 months will be the most crucial one to prepare and i'll have to join anew job.so maybe i won't be that focused..
another option is joining some NGO..but i fear that it will change my career path completely...though it will just be part time but it's said that once u enter a field u end up being in the same..Another thing is Teach for India fellowship .. but it's of 2 yrs duration so am dubious whether to go for it or not..I also have option of ICICI fellowship..it's of 15 months..
You guys can see the level of confusion in me!! :banghead:
I would like to seek for your opinion on choosing among--> Drop and appear CAT12/ Go for a job gain an exp of 1-2 yrs/ join NGO "get some real experience" and then go for CAT this year or a year or 2 later????![]()

kanukriti@ Well this is the time when many face confusions and dilemma....I would suggest never take drop ,its of no use....Many think i would take drop prepare for cat simultaneously do job....after taking drop the variance in %ile will not have much deviation then why simply taking drop....See if you get any good job opportunity then you can join its not an issue but simply for cat ,xat prep dont take chance...many questions might raise in your interview why drop and all....So i suggest you not to t5ake drop ,if you get some good job opportunity you can join if not then go for higher studies it would an opt option for you....best of luck:)
Hey everyone'
I am just one of those who belong to the breed of FARZI ENGINEERS:sneaky:
Now the thing with me is,when in my 3rd year I decided to pursue a MBA,probably thinking that it will help me wash away the dirty linen of my past(read poor acads, gap year before grad, engg from a newbie college,etc)...
screwed up cat big time when i was in my final year, had no clue about other entrance exams(as if i had cracked them)...quants screwed me big time...but thought its k,i will probably land up a job & prepare again...
As luck would have it,owing to some real mis-management of placement issues combined with our being the first batch, our college was given a KING-SIZE snub with only a few farzi companies visiting the campus, conducting a farzi placement procedure, selecting a few(read 30/250) candidates but never gave any joining..& to top it all a couple of those who got joining were only offered salaries of about 5000-8000..i myself never got any joining..& to top it all ended with a backlog in my final sem ending all my hopes of trying for off-campus jobs..
Dad didn't want me to join his buisness straight up after college, besides i couldn't tell them about my backlog,so here i was sitting at home & MBA flame still burning inside me..i decided to give it my all..thought it would be rather a good way to utilise my free time as well than sitting idle..going by my preps & my mock scores i was confident enough to land up a good b-school & somehow fighting my way in even after my poor profile..but again twist of fate..ended up with a mere 77.xx in my cat with quants again being my achilles' heel:banghead:..now with the end of season i am trying for MICAT-2012 which is on the coming sunday..but i don't really have any options left if it doesn't happens you see..
Down in doldrums totally..I am now thinking of joining my dad & learn the trade from him..& may be prepairing again for all the entrance..& who knows may be if i find my calling in buisness i may not think of MBA again..what I wanted to know was that supposedly i try again next year..will it be held against me that i didn't get a job & worked with my own father..will the work ex of handling a small scale buisness be recognised..you see i wont be getting any salary from my own dad..
I really need some advice on this..hope some of you find time enough to go through it & help me out..the fact being 23 & doing nothing is really getting to my head...
regards
Okay so I did my 10th with 80% and 12th with 71% marks. I was never a studious one but was fast on grasping things, so most of the time one night study before the exams did the trick for me. After 12th all my friends were taking admission in engineering college, even my parents wanted the same for me and i was also interested in being called as Engineer.
Couldn't get admitted to any college because of some problems in my admission.. nor did i prepared for the next year.. Anyhow i got admission in an average college of Bangalore in 2006 and first year went quite decent with me geting above 60 in the both the sems. Then i was like okay this one night thing works in engineering as well. Start of 2nd year, engineering papers, poor faculty, my lack of interest in studies and the addiction of gaming and gf ruined everything. I had many back logs in this semester and my percentage took a very sharp dip, though I always thought i would do better in the next sem, it never did happen actually, so in all my engineering degree was screwed big time and it took me 5 and a half years to complete it with 57% marks. hopeless?? I know..
Anyways my degree is completed and now I am looking forward on doing something good with my life. I have read through all the 18 pages, people always look towards your interests. Honestly for me the biggest interest would be gaming but i don't see much of a hope as proffesional gamer in India. So the second thing that interests me is Computers, softwares, Hardwares, mostly all the electronics stuff. I love exploring them, i enjoy troubleshooting my system, my network troubles.. even though i take all the help from "GOOGLE" but I enjoy doing this stuff.
Some of my friends suggested try doing course in Networking and some said software testing. I am in situation where I can't afford to waste any single moment of my life and I am very much equally confused what to do now so as i can get a job? Suggestions, criticism, advice.. anything is welcomed :)

I always wondered where can I talk about my situation and I am glad that I found this thread.

Well, float your resume around to your friends/acquaintances and go on a rampage as far as professional networking is concerned. If networking/sw testing is your true calling, so be it. Do take quantifiable and definitive steps in this direction and find your feet in these areas.
If and only if you can't get the job without doing the professional courses then go for it, else you can give them a skip. Be mindful of the fact that most of these professional courses/placement agencies are fake and do not guarantee any jobs even though they claim to do so. Having said that, the knowledge you will gain in these courses will add something to your resume and knowledge gained as such never go unrewarded.

To answer your question, there are numerous cases, where candidates get involved in their family business and do get through some of the best b-schools in India. Ans yes, they do get to show the work-experience certificate and salary details as well (I don't know what exactly are the proofs they use but rest assured people do it).
On your part you have to get a very good percentile in the MBA 2012 season and once you get the coveted calls for the GD/PI, you should be able to convince the panel that you actually learned from your family business and it has helped to groom your personality.
And do yourself a favour. Don't appear just for CAT (it has become a complete black-box with no transparency left at all), but other nationalized test as well (read SNAP/IIFT/XAT/CMAT)
Hope it helps.

kanukriti SaysAnother thought is going for SAP certification course!
If that's your true calling go for it.
My two cents here to all the junta here who are confused with their career options :
Success requires sustainability. Sustainability necessitates likability. So to be successful choose what you like to do.
Do a realistic self evaluation, find what you truly like to do and then just go for it.
ATB to all. 😃

Hi Puys,
I completed my B-tech in 2010(Computer Science). Got an offer on-campus and joined the Company(ITES-MNC). Was trained on Mainframes Technology and BFSI(VisionPlus) domain and was part of the development team at my organization, Once my project got over, i was involved in things that needed very little effort... But as things went by, the Economic downturn in US/Europe had an influence on the company and projects stopped coming and i decided to resign and prepare for CAT2011... Luckily i spent most of my notice period at home preparing for CAT and other OMET's. My Prep didn't give me a good institute. :(
Now i'm confused... I Have 17 Months of Mainframe experience under by belt...but jobs are hard to get and i also started preparing for CAT/OMET's 2012. What should i do now ? Should i wait and prepare till i get a job or should i drop the idea of hunting for a job.
PS: Acads are 84(Xth) 87.7(XII) and 71 Engineering...No Gap in Education.
Please drop in your suggestions..
Thanks & Regards 😃
