do companies pick u on the basis of ur graduation degree..
or on the basis of the operations management degree only...
because i dont have high scores in my civil engineering to boast about..
does that matter when the companys select u..
won't the operations degree be suffice..!!
also...is the course of operations management same for all engineers...
or is it that somewhere this course has topics for different branches of engineers..!!

stream do matter when u are being placed but marks doesnt matter. u need not have good marks as u wont be a civil engineer rather u will become a manager.
the whole syllabus is same for all engg background except for the electives.
now a days for companies, stream of engg is not a consideration. if u are able to convince them that u are the best.

Career Prospects are huge for Chemical engineers. Infact recently an MNC company who came to our campus for Summers particularly asked for Chemical Engineers for their operations. Chemical Plants are the places where operations is neccessary.
Regarding Operations , like others you have also misunderstood the meaning of it. Operations is not only related to manufacturing but also to other areas. Whatever the sector may be you will have operations in it. In bank the transaction are also called as operations.In a automobile plant the whole supply chain is called as Operations .
Try searching for data in Google you will come to know more about it.

hello nanzINsane...
with a chemical background dont think that u will have to work in pharma companies or related ones. soon after u finish management u will no longer have to worry about engg, and its far more than a manger, a consultant for companies who provide business solutions and many more oppurtunities. it all depends on ur interest and ur stream of engg doesnt come ur way. just imagine BA eng and other degree students doing management and becoming marketing and finance managers.
ur perception about operations is very little i can say that a spoonful of water in an ocean. its much more than what u said. just search for it or see the subjects we are learning.
right now we have about 12% as girls and we forecast it to be somewhere to around 40 percent next year. but everything depends on how u perform before the panel.

The last date for receiving filled up application form is 10th feb
List of short listed candidates wud be declared on 15 th feb
I have one query, R we suppose to send work-ex certificate along with filled up form, coz nowhere its mentioned???? In SIIB it was not mentioned that u need to send ur work-ex certificate and then later it was said that if u havent sent ur work-ex certificate then ur work-ex wont be counted in giving out the calls.
So guys please tell me wether i should send the work-ex certificate along with the form or not.

You can send only your application form and if you get shortlisted then bring your Work-Ex and other certificate along with you.

Ms sonal it seems ur interviewing us...who can predict what is gonna happen in gds and pi's. if we are telling u on some topics we will defnitely be misguiding u and "seeOMs" never do that. so just go ahead with what some coaching centres say. as far as i know,with my experience " trishana's" book for gd and pi by TIME institute is good.
dont worry about the tech from engg. most of the panel members might have forgot all those( they might be engg long back). and no question of formulae.
no presentations please. panel members will become mendicants by listening what u bluff(obviously everyone does the same---even me) and imagine presentations.
but be careful with ur work ex. know what ur work was . what u learnt and related q's. in short know about ur job atleast now.
with the tremendous response the gds will happen at more than just nashik city, might be pune, delhi, chennai, etc. u will know about that later.
wish me a good luck everyone. i was shortlisted for a big software service provider. a bit tensed but not worried. this is symbi, if not this some other one.
