I have been literally swinging like a pendulum regarding my decision on tapmi vs satyam.
I am a final yr mech engg grad and have bare minimum knowledge on what I can expect out of a software job in satyam. I would appreciate if u guys (esp software engg.guys) could give me some info for the same. Also i would like to know ur personal say on software job(fresher) vs mba(tapmi like inst)

a fresher myself, i got a job at mbt (it telecom sw cmpny), but i plan to take tapmi...100%
just keep in mind... satyam being a software company... u being a not comp science person... u will get da job on support side or smthing and not core r n d or progrmming stuf... xcept tht u r xeptional during ur training.. thats wht a senior at mbt told mi
and thn if u planning to go 4 cat agn... lemme tell u smthing... u hav something in hand... and tapmi is a gr8 option acc 2 mi...

U've done a great work in guessing the number of WL candidates. Hats off for UR efforts. But as I was hoping that WL candidates will be very less, your info made me unsure whether I have a real chance. It would have been better if they had indicated an order of merit! ANyway, still we can hope to make it. ATB to you Mac.

Hi Nithin -- My opinion for you. If you really want to play it big. It might scare you but out of my experience -- i believe this works the best.
Join Satyam and work for three months. till aug end.
When u r fresher -- training period would give u the basic exposure to the working environment. Quit the job. Satyam tag would be with you. U would get three months of salary( approx) -- that will take care of ur expenses for the application forms for cat and other exams.
Prepare even during ur training time -- if u find time. September to nov -- full time preparation should give u a call for sure. Much better than tapmi.
Two Positive things that u have on ur side. --age and job. So giving another shot at big dream might not be a bad idea.
Pitfalls: CAT pattern has changed. So u have to build entirely new stratergy. Uncertainty has increased. Even for CAT coaching institutes -- this year is a big test. And stratergy is very important for scoring in cat.
Money hook: Once u start earning money -- it hooks. and u start justifying ur job and its importance. And u leave ur dreams only to repent it after few years -- when u will have no time due to increased responsibilities though u might be earning decent salary.
If u believe that this time u have given ur best shot at mba entrance exams -- join tapmi or follow the roadmap given.

PS: For those wondering who Iam : I have converted tapmi call. B TECH ( chem). 28 months work ex at Reliance. Might not join as my IMT results are due and I feel very positive abt it.

I read some of those who got placmeents in sathyam, wipro etc are finding it difficult to decide whether to join Tapmi this year and then try CAT again next year. I have also seen lot of pG ites offering meaningful suggestions to join in the job, prepare CAT and give it a try next year. Pals I too got a placment in CTS, but I decided to go ahead with an MBA this year in the best institute I can get into. There are 2/3 main reasons. (A) In the coming years CAT is going to be much tougher and more competitive. The awareness of MBA degree has grown much fatser. I estinate that CAT 2005 will attract around 2 Lakh participants. IIMS, MDI, NITIE, SPJ, IMT etc will have a cut off of 98 or more. Believe me, in a couple of years from now even Tapmi will have a cutoff of 95 plus. (B) Once you join in a software job it requires lot of your time and you will be pretty tired by the weekend to concentrate on your preparations. We would have gradually forgotten the academics. Hence we can't be 100% sure that our %ile will go up. (C) Going ahead with the entire process of writing exams and applying to Schools is really painful doing it second time. Taking into account all the above, it is always better to sntach the best option this year and go ahead. Friends, again this opinion is purely subjective and it is left for you to decide. Whatever you guys do, my best wishes to you all.

spot on rdkp. i am a live example of what u have explained. working with infy for the last 14 months. yes software jobs do take a heavy toll on any person, and at one point of time u feel 'why the hell am i doing all this?'..i realized this and have done my best to prepare for cat and other entrance tests.
so guys thinking of sacrificing mba seats for a software job think twice. at some point of time u need an mba to grow in an organization.
