thanks meberty...but wanted to know about the dress code too...is it a compulsion to wear formals for everyday lectures..??
How's food in the mess? Is it only south-indian or they provide all variety and is it tasty or typical 'Mess' type? Do they have only one TV in the hostel(In the common room)?
How is the internet spped in the hostel? I hope yahoo msgr is not among the blocked ones..
Is the mess 24*7 or they have some timings?
Do they allow for small trips on weekends? Night-out are allowed on saturday-sundays? How do people travel.. walking or auto? How big is this town?
Laptops are allowed in the classrooms?
Some questions are silly.. but then we r on PAGAL guy.. :D
ok.. let me take that one by one..
Course structure: If the query is about the pedagogy or the teaching methodology, then I guess its already been answered in previous posts.
Hostel facilities: Its brand new and is mostly twin sharing. Most important thing which I have felt about it is that its very well maintained. 24/7 you have room cleaning service which can be availed at no extra cost. This is specially helpful for ppl who are lazy to keep their rooms tidy. All rooms have attached bathrooms. TV is there in the common room.
There are a lot of places where you can find good food in Manipal. I guess it would be irrelevant to just post their name at this point of time.
Being in the western ghats, there are a lot of places that you can see around especially if you are of that "nature/wildlife" lover kind. Agumbe, famous for the King Cobra and "cherrapunjee of the south", Kudremukh, Jog Falls, Coorg, etc etc... The question is, whether u'll have the time for it or not :D
Faculty, I guess, its better for you to find it for urselves. It isnt right for you to have a prejudiced opinion of anyone before you have even met him/her.![]()
Tips: 😁 ok.. i'll give you the same tip given by my senies before I joined TAPMI. Plan a big trip, go see places, enjoy as much as u can, before you join TAPMI. I spent mine on a 21day journey around India... so you may plan one for urselves!!
Hostel rules: A few general rules, gents are not allowed in ladies hostel and vice versa. Alchohol/Smoking STRICTLY not allowed inside the college premises (So need not tell u abt drugs!!). You need to be in the college premises by 11:30pm. In case you need to stay out of the hostel, you need to take prior permission. And trust me guys, none of these rules are "you may follow them" types ok?? Its "must follow" type!!I guess you will be mailed all those hostel rules before you join TAPMI.

chandnimaliwar Saysthanks meberty...but wanted to know about the dress code too...is it a compulsion to wear formals for everyday lectures..??
Though it is not compulsory to wear formals everyday to classes, students are expected to be in "presentable" dress(T-Shirts, Jeans are allowed). But, too much fashion and fancy clothes should be avoided. Also,Torn Jeans/Shirts with controversial wordings should be avoided at all costs. Once you join the college you will automatically come to know as to what is "presentable" dress.
A management institute considers various factors while seelcting a candidate.. Your interview peformance, CAt result, previous academics, writing skills etc etc..
TAPMI has a very good reputation, so people who have excellent percentiles(97+) keep it as a backup.. and most of them have brilliant scores in their graduation also.. and many of them have good work-ex..
All that matters..
It hurts when u lose the best call you had..but understand friend.. there are many candidates with stronger profiles.. who have also worked very hard for it..
We can't ask them for a reason for rejection.. all we can do is looking within ourselves and judge.. where do we need to improve.. Ask yourself and you'll get the answer..

While I feel sorry for you, none of us here can answer your query. Admissions in any college (not only TAPMI) are based on a lot of factors including your marks (10th, 12th, Graduation and CAT), Work Ex and finally on how you perform in the Gd/Case study/PI rounds when compared to your fellow mates.
and please don't spam.. have patience.. and post a query only once.. it'll be answered sooner or later..

Well, regarding hostel food, errr... we too are trying to figure that out.. LOLs.. just kidding ;). The food is not South Indian only and is prepared keeping in mind the varied food habits of the TAPMI students (North, South, all..). There are timings for serving breakfast, lunch, etc but its usually not that difficult to keep up with them

We have 2 hostel blocks for gents and 1 for ladies. Each block has a TV room. But we find it more interesting to come and watch the big TV in the canteen esp when we have cricket matches. And trust me, its fun!!
Internet speed is quite good in the hostel. All download sites and youtube is blocked till 11:30pm. This is required as otherwise, the speeds will be too low

Regarding night outs, you need to take prior permission. If you have a good reason, its fine. Reg trips. To be frank, it'll be quite hectic and u'll have limited windows for a trip. It is not impossible though. its upto you on how you manage it. There are very few buses that pass in front of the TAPMI gate. If you can walk a little, you can get buses that go to Manipal. Else you can take an auto to manipal. Manipal is not that BIG. Its a university town where there are 30,000 students from all over the world 😁 So whatever a typical student needs, is available:D
Laptops are allowed in some classes where it is required for use. otherwise you are not allowed. anyways, its based on the course and you will be informed by the faculty on when its required.

Food : All kinds of food including south Indian. The mess is big, clean and well maintained.
About quality of food : Is there any student on earth who claims to be happy with the taste of (his) mess food. :)
One TV per block in the common room. (TATA SKY). Total three blocks. Two for boys and one for girls.
Internet speed in hostel is good and in class room its awesome :). No yahoo msg is not blocked.
No mess is not 24X7. Timings are fixed. At present there are two vendors.
Night outs are allowed on weekends , but you have to give good reason to hostel warden and take prior permission.
Auto is most preferred, but personal vehicles (bike, cars) are also used. The policy for keeping personal vechile for your batch may change, so wait before you book your vehicle to be transferred to Manipal.
Laptops allowed in classroom only when faculty asks you to bring that. And your most quizzes will happen on laptops only.
I have a slight confusion if anyone can throw light on this :Everwhere it is mentioned that Tapmi has a intake of 120 students for PGDM ( not talking abt this yr where they have increased it to 180 + other courses) but in all 172 students passed out of 2008-2010 batch(Refer to Tapmi site)...52 students extra from the stipulated intake. How is that possible ??
That means the college took more than what the intake was. Then the Qs arises will this trend follow this year too?? I guess the seniors of 09-11 batch can give some info whether the same trend is there in their batch also??
Hey mates.. Isn't it getting too much??
I know we are all deadly curious to know about the waitlist.. even I'm in the same boat.. but do you people really believe that we can just speculate.. how many are waitlisted..?
It's just a matter of a few days.. Even if the waitlist is 100 or 1000.. we can't change or challenge it.. we got to wait till they declare..
Let's wait till 10-11th may.. we'll be in a position to ask them as they have promised this date..
Till then we can do something more constructive..and ask our senies more relevant questions.. like..
**course structure
**Hostel facilities:cheers:
**Food joints in Manipal
**Places to hang around
**About the faculty.. who's the easiest to handle.. and who's the toughest of them:splat
**Tips from the senies.. what to take from home.. etc etc...:wow:
This thread is getting real bore..:|
PS: Don't groan please.. just an advice..
I'm not an aspirant but having done my undergrad from Manipal, I hope ppl won't mind if I take up one or two of these things.
Though it might not sound like tht, Manipal is an absolutely awesome place and we had the time of our lives there. You can get just abt everything u get in a big city, but at a fraction of the price.
Eating Joints - Dollops, Saiba, Snack Shack, Planet Cafe, Hot & Spicy, Tasty Bite, Cosmo Cafe, Food Courts (2 of them) and innumerable others with just abt every kind of food u can imagine (Squid anyone?)

Pubs/Nightclubs - Downtown, Edge (girls get in free), Blue Waters, Enigma, New Downtown and a few smaller ones.

Places to visit - Goa (5 hrs by train), Agumbe, Kudremukh, Bekal, Gokarna, Coorg, Kudlu Falls, Mangalore, Karwar, St. Mary's Island, Turtle Bay and other beaches, this quaint little place called Railway Bridge etc etc etc. And etc.

Fests - TAPMI has this really great inter B-school meet called Atharva with this one of its kind Quiz on the Beach. It also has this market research fair called Brand Scan. The engineering college has a cultural fest
called Revels and a tech fest called Tech Tatva with a lot of business events. Manipal University itself has an intra-university fest. Big guest performers in the past have included Strings, Parikrama, Euphoria and a whole host of other bands and singers.
Tht's the good news. The bad news - TAPMI has an extremely rigorous academic system and they really believe in discipline. When I was in college, I knew two guys from TAPMI who were expelled and one who was suspended for a few months because they missed too many classes and college activities. Don't know if it's still as strict, but please don't find out the hard way.
Moral of the story - Have your fun, but do remember you are there to study to become management professionals. The college gives you a great opportunity to learn so use it.
Tht's abt it and I hope seniors will forgive me if I have trespassed on their territory.

May be.. this info won't be of any use to me if I don't get through.. but i'm very sure it's more relevant and interesting than those speculations about how many are waitlisted.. and what should be the criteria of
selection.. It only adds to more and more questions where no one has answers..
Even if I get rejected , any one who gets selected would love to know more about all this.. this year and in many next years too..

Till now the regular intake at TAPMI has always been 120 except for one batch - 2008-10. For our seniors, the college decided to increase the intake to 180 on trial basis. But due to various factors they decided to reduce the overall intake to 120 for our batch. Now with the new campus completly operational for the past 1.5 years, the college has decided to finally increase the overall intake for good (180 for PGDM and the 3 new courses of 60 seats each).
Hello Seniors,
Wondering if there is any cafeteria in the campus which is 24x7 so that if we study or work whole night on a presentation or any project so we can go there to have a sip of coffee to refresh ourselves even at 3 AM.
Thanks.
As of now there is no such facility. But considering the huge intake next year, a request has already been put formward to management for a 24x7 canteen and we should hopefully see it in the coming few months.
Any idea about when the college is going to start?
@Seniors- How much time was provided between last W/L clearance and college start date?
As I am a working professional, I will have to serve notice period of 2 months compulsorily. Your information will be useful in planning notice period. Thanks in advance.

Yes.. I too have similar worries.. In case I am selected and not relieved from the company on time, will I get to join the classes late? i.e a week or so..

College for your batch would start most probably on 1st of July. In our batch, the last W/L call was known 1 week before the college opening but again things could be different this time around. you might get an approx idea of conversion chances once the college releases the W/L No.
Hi I have a notice period of 3 months and i won't be possible for me to serve it in case i make through. What is the last that i can do in case my company is adamant on serving the notice period.

Now it seems you people are asking relevant questions ? :)
Last year i faced same situation.
Answer : It depends upon you wait listed number. People will get offer for final admission as per their wait list number. People will be asked wether they are accepting the offer or not ? You will be given window of 4-5 days to accept or reject the offer. (This window will again depend upon , when u have received the mail.) For example, if your wait list number was too high and you were the one of the last person to get offer for final admission, you will get very less time to decide.
Once you reply to that mail, you will have to send the first installment by a fixed date as mentioned in offer letter.
A advice to all students : Suppose even if your name doesn't appear in wait list, still keep checking. Last year it happened, that many people thought they are out of race as their name didn't appear even in waiting list. But due to last minute cancellation of admission of some students, other who were in 2nd wait list got call. We have people here who lost all hope of admission, and went on travelling for soul searching 😃 and after some days randomly checked their email on airport and found final admission mail. And the day they checked their mail, that was the last day to reply to accept/reject the offer.
I had to resign just on 25 days notice , although the notice period was 2 months in my company. In our time we had to pay around 1.13 lakh as first part for first installment withing one week or ten days (don't remember exactly).
Note : This not true just for TAPMI, it happens for all b school. I know my friends who got last minute calls (ya, literally a phone call) from IIMs and other premiere b schools even after the classes have started there.
So please keep your phone reachable and access mail daily. If you cant access mail, call a friend (on any other city), who can check your mail.
Becoz you may miss a call/mail whcih could have changed your life. 😃
