Tapmi Batch of 2010-2012

The time you have before joinin TAPMI is the best!! I mean, seriously dude, it'll be quite hectic once you are in TAPMI.
Each class is of 70min duration. For us, during the first semester, we had 5 classes each day  9am-1pm 2:30pm-5pm. It depends. Some days you have 5, some 4 some 3, etc. All the classes will be different. There can be rare exceptions. There can be classes starting at 7.20 also...:wow:
Last yr we had around 2 guest lectures on an avg per month and research seminar by the faculty every week. This year, we have planned to increase the frequency of the guest lectures by bringing in our alumni who now stand in high positions in the industry.
MIP (Management in Practice), or summer internship is put in 4th semester. Thats exactly what we are undergoing now.

Ok..and how are your interns going on..I mean yes TAPMI takes MIP very seriously..so I suppose the MIPs are also very rigorous.....

And do we get to learn a lot....
is it like 8 hours a day full of learning..or for some students it is like chill...where we go through the motions..

And wanna know how important the MIP is when it comes to final placements....do we get the bargaining power with a good MIP performance???

This post is written in general public interest specially for all those people who are calculating "ROIs" from MBA education. Then comparing different b schools and taking desision to take admission or not in any b school.

(1) ROI calculation: You divide your expected returns (including reasonable risks) by the investment you are making to calculate the ROI, then you compare
ROIs from different options and then you make you final decision depending upon best ROI. But is this method hold true in case of choosing a b school.
Example:
There is a very good B school down south say L whose annual fee is 2 lakh and average salary is 6 lakh. So ROI = 300 %. And there is another B School who is consistently ranked number one in all rankings. Their annual fee is 7 lakh and average salary is 14 lakh (official figure yet not out, so assumption based on last year's figure) Here ROI is 200%.
Now will you join a good b school whose ROI is 300% or you will join the number one ranked school whose ROI is 33% less than the good schools. These two are not fictitious b school. You can easily guess which two school I am talking about. I agree that I have taken an extreme example and approximated the data for simplification of calculation, but my question still remains the same why will you leave a better ROI option for a lesser ROI option? Answer: For intangible benefits.
(2) Intangible benefits: MBA education (sector) is not a share market and B school is not a listed company. In the share market your only investment is money and the only returns also the money. So ROI calculation simple.
It doesn't matter which company shares you hold, who is selling, who are others fellows in market. What matters is that which shares your share market adviser advices you to buy based on his ROI calculations.
But in b school your investment will be money and time (2 years) and returns will be in terms education, change in career path, salary and many other factors. Like 105 out 120 people in our batch have some work exp. And most of them from IT background. But some of them will be going in to finance, some marketing, some in HR by their choice. Can you calculate value of this carrier change in terms of money?
So when you are calculating the returns from an MBA degree from a b school you have to include the intangible benefits from the course. But Intangible are difficult to calculate and their value will vary from person to person.
Also, your investment in terms of money will be only for two years, but returns you will reap throughout your life.
In nutshell, the ROI calculation for an MBA education is more complex than what many prospective students have discussed here and other threads.
(3) The risk involved: If you paying the whole fee from your pocket then no issues. But if you are paying it by loan, then think in terms of EMIs. Use online EMI calculators to calculate how much EMI you will have to pay for the loan you will take. Here is one .
If you are paying the whole fee by loan, the even for seven years the EMI will be quite high.
Many people pay some part by their own pocket and rest they take as a loan. This reduces the EMI amount drastically. So think about how much EMI you can afford. How much financial backup you have.
Also do not think only the best possible scenario; you have to consider the worst possible scenario. You never know when the recession will be back.
(4) Worst possible scenario: Even in b school whose average salary is 15 lakh/annum not everybody gets 15 lakh annual salaries. First it CTC, Your "take home salary" will be lesser than this. Also some will get more than 15 lakh/annum (like 1 crore/annum) and a large chunk of students get much less than 15 lakh.
So now the burden of EMIs will increase. In all premium b school only best students gets admission. They have almost same CAT percentile, they all pass through same rigorous GD/PI process but still somebody gets more than average and some less. Who gets more and who gets less, depends upon many factors?
My point is the financial risk is involved in your decision of joining a b school. You have to calculate how much maximum risk you can take. Be ready to struggle financially in initial years of your job, if you are taking entire fee on loan. The more u put from home, lesser will be chance of financial pressure in initial year of job.
I am not saying you to ignore the fee and average salary figure. You have to calculate your EMIs for the loan you take, that will give you indication of burden you will have once you are in job. Also do consider average salary for calculating a part of returns, but for GOD sake do not divide the average salary by fee to calculate ROI from a b school.

The rigour of the MIP varies from company to company. But TAPMI does take MIP very seriously and also your performance in the MIP makes a lot of difference in the final placements too. I have heard that good time of the placement interview is spent on discussing about your MIP work.
MIP is a time when you get to apply the things that you have learnt in the past 1yr in TAPMI. It varies based on the profile of the MIP.

wait till the date wen d course is gonna begin...i got my admission mail on june 29th.....and the joining was july 3rd......so all the wait listed candidates don lose hope....

Its a calm before a storm. I am sure, come monday, this thread would become the most active thread on PG.

Dude, there are people outside pagalguy who are not joining TAPMI despite being selected. I am talking abt a few ppl who are under my mentorship. So, waitlisted guys, cheer up!!

hey!

whats this mentor thing? i didn't have anyone from TAPMI as my mentor!

also is there any news on how many confirmed calls have been given? because by having a look at the spreadsheet i still feel that 180 calls for PGDM have not been given!

because for 180 seats the college must have given something 210 to 240 calls including buffer calls, mostly all colleges give buffer calls!

I think that wait listed candidates have a real chance this year!

So don't loose hope anyone!

Cheers!

I enquired from admissions department and they told that till now only 120 calls have been given..

what was your waiting list number..???

Time for IND VS AUS LET SENIORS SOULS BE PEACFUL FOR ATLEAST THIS EVENING

The spread sheet that we had maintained, some one has done some tampering with it. And the fella who is the owner of that spread sheet, is been banned on PG. His PG id is something like 'scott'. I don't know how to recover that back to normal.

Hey scott if you are watching this space please do us a favor, bring that sheet back to normal.

have done a little bit of damage control.. but some ppl's names and other details (like whether they would be joining or not..) that have been deleted (including mine!!) cannot be retrieved..so ppl would probably have to fill them again..

Let me clear my stance. What i meant was they have given calls for 120 seats...
( no. of calls mite be >= 120)
