Sir,
I am 30 years old and i have below average acdemic record X-59% ,XII-54% , Diploma Engineering 73% and B.E.- 57% , I have three years of out-sourced work experience i want to do MBA and appear in CAT 2010.can you tell how much chances do i have that i will get call from good college's even if i crack CAT ? and if i get in to any college do i have any chance of being recruited by campus placements? Can my work experience be taken for granted as it's outsourced? Which colleges i can try if i can crack CAT?What are the other MBA entrance exams i can go for ? Will it be helpfull if i go for coaching classes for CAT?Also my basics are not storng. Where and how should i start preparation? Will it be of any help if i opt for full-time coaching in T.I.M.E OR ERUDITE?
Please reply with answers ASAP.
Why concerned about placements!!! .well I think everybody is....tell me whos ready...to learn ..get experience...and not get a job....yes I agree that its our hard work and knowledge that ultimately gets good job..or a job that we want....but the college is also very important..a top performer from an IIM is different from a top performer from any other college..be it MDI , NITIE , TAPMI , SP JAIN etc etc...atleast the market thinks so..and offers better money to them...isnt it
Lets Forget TAPMI for a moment...lets consider a college X..thats much lower than TAPMI...would you still maintain the same opinion..get experience...and stuff when people dont get placed at all...
So yes knowledge is important...but ultimately you want an end product for that knowledge ..i.e a good job,...we are not here to do penance ....
I am sure about TAPMI's stats ..I believe its authentic..and there are people trying to taint the image of tapmi...
but my contention is placement is paramount....even in the interview ..they ask why mba???...and we provide a lot of gyaan...and we know the real answer isnt it...but cant say that openly to them..we need to dress it up and give an MBA flavour...
ULTIMATELY we gain knowledge ..get to know lots of things through interaction...from an MBA ..and it also opens up a lot of options before us..it makes us more versatile...a BE grad would not have some many options even if he does an mtech and a phd... I am just giving an example..it applies to all grads..
and in the end all this culminates in getting a job..dream job or not depends on US as well as the COLLEGE ..both are equally important friend..
Agreed dude...nothing against TAPMI, its just the ROI thing because of which i have forfeited my seat dis yr.BTW converted both Nirma n TAPMI joining neither.Because MBA is a lifetime investment and getting a good start is what really matters. After 2 yrs we also have to think about paying a loan of 10.5 lacs.

This thread is Tapmi 2010 admission querry specific, kindly post your querry on the right thread. In future kindly refrain from posting here.
as you have already asked let me tell you, your experience will count a lot in getting GD-PI call and not much will be dependent upon your past academic record. although some weightage is given to acads, but with your experience, that will be secondary.
To be on safer side try to get higher percentile and make a personnel benchmark of 1-2 %ile higher than the cut-off of various colleges (excluding IIMs). for joining coaching institute, post your querry on right thread(according to your geographical location).

Hi Guys, After thinking a lot on my options, opinions and hard thinking, I have ALMOST decided to give TAPMI (and every other college) a miss this year. This is not because TAPMI is a bad college, infact i thoroughly believe that TAPMI is pretty much a college which is ranked way below its potential.
Its easily good enough to come in the top 15 anyday.
The professors seem really good, so do seem the facilities provided. The fees might be bit of a worry but thats about ok too since its a long term thing-The fees has to go up in order to keep the professors and get more of them along with great tech facilities in the campus. Its a logical step and colleges which refrain from this will lose out on good professors.
Now, Why am I PROBABLY dropping out?
1) I have offers in the profiles I like and in some of them are in places and profiles that are dream companies and start-ups even by Great B-School league standards (marketing)but I don't about packages yet, and I really put a lot of effort when i chose my Bachelors degree so I guess I might as well derive some benefit out of it.
2) The marketing companies I want to work for don't recruit at TAPMI and the seniors were nice enough to tell me this fact forthright and not connive like the other B-Schools or lie completely in their placement data. Seniors were open enough and answers ranged from straightaway no to please think long term to definitely yes and each answer was vital for me so the seniors were really helpful.
3) I am pretty young, turned 22 a month back and If i can judge the situation correctly from this year on, profiles of candidates both during summers and final placements will matter a lot more and so work-ex will come to matter more and lateral placements will become the safest bets and without good prior work-ex in similar lines and profiles, cracking laterals is impossible and summers and
Also, more and more companies want people with prior experience and it makes sense as well and we all know it. Its not any colleges fault when freshers don't get the salaries they think they would have got. In an increasingly intelligent Business world relevant experience will come to matter a lot.
Here is an example of the same which is true across the board for this top employer
Britannia Industries Limited Official Website
Clearly stating, that they only recruit laterals for Marketing and freshers only in Sales and this holds true for all mba colleges in India including iims, isb etc etc. This is true for almost all companies. Prior work-ex matters a lot.
4) 4 new IIMs next year and ISB Mohali, the year next to it + 1 more iim the same year and all the iims (new and old) will continue to upgrade and get more students/seats meanwhile. This plus the fact that all major schools are increasing their intake vociferously including SP Jain next year (opens up HR from next year) apart from others like IMT opening up HYD campus along with Kingfisher group and vijay mallya probabaly. Also Cat screwed me this year and I made stupid mistakes in XAT. That apart my prep wasn't as good as it was suppose to be.
5) The foreign MBAs seems increasingly better because of sure-shot better profiles, more networking, long term growth, world-class professors, academic linkages etc etc. Most Indians who are at a global stage have a second international mba. so why not try for them in the first place?
Insead, Bucconi, ISB, NUS, etc very much targetable.
The Idea is simple, My opportunity cost of spending 15 lakhs now becomes equal to a foreign mba in about a year or two's time especially given the work-ex, profile and ofcourse the fact that Some of the world's best mba's are of one year duration and not two, so opportunity costs automatically decreases by a huge factor.
The Indian MBA at 15 lakhs that too without work-ex has just stopped making sense and people like that will ultimately fall in the lower quartile during placements and because of their own faults not because of the college. The college can only do so much.
Enough about me,
About why TAPMI is a great college:
1)It believes in truth and Integrity. The college, The professors, The Ex-Students, The seniors and almost everyone else stands testimony to this fact. TAPMI doesn't blatantly lie and I say this with enough confidence because I know about so many top 17 colleges in India that allow malpractices that it would make most of the students bleed to death or take up priesthood
and by that I mean intake policy. lets not even go to placement statistics. You will cry tears of blood if you guys tried to know the truth.
How Do I know about this? I absolutely do not believe in any person who can gain anything out of saying good things about a college. I do first hand research and I believe in my own research then anyone else's. I believe in my personal contacts.
2)Marketed-Branded Properly, It is easily and without a doubt become one of India's top 15 colleges in 6 months time and beyond that in 2 years or so. It has just begun establishing towards that goal about 3 months ago
3)25 year old college and an amazingly strong but under-utilised but dedicated alumni base.
Alumni Interaction Video
The guy at the end is basically screaming "yes we can" about TAPMI. Who is he? You better find out, especially if you like finance. Do a little research on the guy.
Future London Meet
With immense... Facebook
4)Great facilities in terms of technology initiatives in the campus which will work long term and make education a lot more easier by the use of technology. Great living quaters-I do not know many colleges which give attached bathroom 😐 and these small things do add up.
5)Absolutely No Quota. This is very important in a world of business where networking is everything. Would you not want your friend to help you out when you are in trouble? and vice-versa? or would you want to be the only one from whom everyone takes help? You want to be friends with people who want are go-getters and corporate travelers. Even a normal quota candidate will be proud of the fact that he didn't come through quota but came through pure merit and that self-confidence counts, especially to people who have a conscience. You will realise this more after you read a little bit further.
6)Innovative Steps.
TAPMI (TAPMI) on Twitter
Go through the posts, you will realise that this college has tremendous appetite for innovation.
Academic Linkages with groups like Blue Ocean Strategy Group etc (If Done)
Q)How strong is the alumni? which determines, how good is the college at the end of the day, which probably determines where you might end up at?
Ans->How many of you like fastrack watches?
If you do like it (yes sir, yes sir, yes sir!) or own 4 fastracks like me, then you owe it to a tapmi graduate. click on this one to find out who and how
YouTube - Titan Recruitment 2007
How to know more and know true things?
How do you compare colleges and more importantly people passing out of them?
Get yourself a [url=http://www.linkedin.com]www.linkedin.com profile and search with B-School names eg-tapmi or tapmi finance, tapmi marketing etc, you can see a list of a lot of people from each B-School and you can see their career track record and what they have done in how much time etc.
All this will clearly give you the information you need and all the information you get will be 100% valid because the site is such that no one can possibly lie. You will realise that there are college in the to top 17 ranks and are doing pathetic in terms of career moves and that is the biggest asset that an mba should provide you with-Career moving and improving skills. So go get surprised.
Also be sensible while expecting 50 lakh salary as a fresher or as no-relevant experienced employee :
It will not happen in any B-School in the world, i repeat, in the world. India being a third world country, its completely out of question-go for what you love and go for profile.
Realise that mba recruitments in India is a buyers market and not a sellers market.
When figures are too good to be true, they are. Also such packages will have components like home loan, car loan, private jet loan, air france tickets, insurance against colon cancer, loan for buying Eiffel tower, insurance against the same etc. These figures are fictitious and they don't exist anywhere, not even in the IIMs because non-experienced/non-relevant experience profiles can't get them. It is a first hand rule that doesn't change. Anyone form any B-School proclaiming such figures is blatantly lying and thinks you are a fool.
People right now saying "hey, i heard consultants get paid that amount of money"-false, you as a youngster will not to do anything exciting in a big consulting company. Strategy policies and clients worth billions of dollar are not given to newbies with no industry experience in any business field. Consulting is field (prior knowledge) based and is increasingly becoming more so. Its not a generalised field it used to be anymore (PS:I am a certified management consultant) Also even after paying as much as they do, the attrition rate for the world's largest consulting group stands at about 22% (atleast in the recent past). Ever wondered why?
People saying right now "hey, investment banking pays big time" true but go check working hours, go check ratio of in-hand to variable range-there are good reasons why when recession hit a lot of top ivy league i-bankers on wall street became lap-dancers.
BottomLine : Do care to find out the depth of the pool you want to dive into. you might just drown if you don't. and people who don't love water much don't swim well, and people who do, feel like "fish out of water" when they are not swimming. so decide, if swimming is what you like, decide if its a pool you want to dive into.
Case In Point->Sun Tzu's Art of War -> A winner chooses his battle, and a battle chooses a loser. A winner decides the conditions for wining and then gets into the field, a loser gets into the field and then thinks about how to win.
"If you love what you do, you will never have to work a day"-true since last written about 1000+ years ago on a rock slate or a papyrus may be.
This is exactly why artists and scientists are so revered in our society since time-immemorial.
The True average salary for the best Schools in India(for freshers/non-relevant experience) can't cross 8-12 lakhs, even if you are next to God.
Even if you get to a top 5 B-School in India, remember that you can be the one getting the lowest salary-the probability is always there. The lowest salary for IIM-A was between 5-7 (ctc) lakhs. now tell me, if you got a 99.6 and then fought through guys in gd-pi and then through 1st year college, then summer placements and then 2nd year college, lateral placements and then final placements and got the lowest package after paying around 15 lakhs. How would you feel? Failure can be anywhere. choose what you love against being paid for what you don't. Don't being lured into things you don't want to do in the first place. The person who wants to do the same for fun will win over you with ease, you will linger and die.
In my mind, with this year's progress report from colleges (without naming them and some others who I personally know are blatantly lying about their placements and more importantly about profiles) are on the back-foot and TAPMI should go for the kill right now.
It will be the true underdog story in management education sector.
With all this, I wish TAPMI all the very best and its one of the very few schools I fell in love with (The only other two are MICA and IIM-C) and TAPMI will forever hold this place in my heart. Best of luck to its future :D
[ PS:Sorry Seniors for being a pain in the places where sun don't shine for about 3+ months but i really wanted to know more and hence my tormenting comments and questions in the other threads of TAPMI which you guys almost patiently answered. Thank You for the same : ) ]

The list you have includes all the docs you need to submit except the Xth and XIIth passing certificates. Dont forget these and Yes, a provisional degree will do for the moment but u need to submit your final degree once you receive it within the next 9-12 months.
I would recommend that you carry 2-3 attested copies of all your certificates with you when u reach TAPMI.

Rohan Desai Sayshey any updates... anyone got his waiting no... Which no. to dial mann it says this no. does not exists...
i called them up and they told me that they will declare the waitlist number tomorrow & asked me 2 call back tom.
That makes sense because today was the last day to submit fees for the selected candidates..
Called up the Institute right now.. This no. - 91 820 2701000.
A Lady received the call..
Me: is this the TA Pai Management Institute?
Lady: Yeah..
Me: Ma'am, the waitlisted candidates were to know their waitlist number today..
Lady: Please Hold On..
Me: Yes, sure.
After 10 secs..
Lady: Sir, Tomorrow sir..
Me: This is for sure?
Lady: Pardon? (I repeated..) Yes, Yes.. Tomorrow for sure..
Me: Okay, Thank You Ma'am. (End of Conversation).
Hoping somebody else will also call up and validate the above..
the lady sounded quite sure.
sandeepgupta_10 SaysThat makes sense because today was the last day to submit fees for the selected candidates..

Friends I too called up ...expected a quick "no not today" and drop of the phone...but the person explained it in a very lucid manner...he said that the another 100 people would have their status updated tomorrow...so the next batch of 100 may god bless!!!
and he said that they are waiting to hear from aicte..regarding approval for other courses...and that is the reason the results for these courses are been held back...once the confirmation from aicte is out tapmi would release the results for IB , BFS and HC is well..
All the best guys..good part is that we came to know at 10:00 itself...so did not waste all our time ..biting our nails..have to wait for another 24hrs...

chaditya Saysyou mean to say that they will release another list of 100 people for PGDM course ??
no i think what hes trying to say is that the top 100 in the waitlist will probably get their waitlist number tom and the rest have to keep waiting for further updates....
p.s: this is what "I" understood from his statement...though i wish this aint true...as I am waitlisted myself.
