Tas 2010

But seriously man! The TAS ppl really walk the talk! Rahul Krishna is just 35+ and he heads TAS! Can you beat that?!?!?!? He told us from his personal experience that he left a job offer that gave him a 300% hike due to the kind of opportunities he gets at TAS.

Puys attending the workshops in India - Please try to get an answer for this:

1. The mail from TAS indicates there will be three final Director's Round of Interview in Mumbai - meaning on 3 different days, 2 in May and 1 in June. Will the results be announced for those candidates EOD or held and announced together at a later date?

2. If results are announced EOD - Does TAS have a number in their mind for this year? If they reach the number in the first or second Director's Round of Interview will that affect the results for the third one? In other words are the results independent of each other? Thanks in advance :)

Mr. Rahul Krishna told us that there is no fixed number of candidates they have in mind ever! He said it's all about how many make the cut and he will be glad to have more people, but they should be capable enough. As an aside, he said that he is often approached by the big guns at Bombay House curious about the number of candidates they are looking to recruit, but he says that there is no number. So, I don think this will affect the later interviews. Logically speaking, just because you fall in a zone that is scheduled last for the interview, it should not have any affect on your candidature as it's not your fault!

Ashu_tas bhai, think like a manager! Yeh 6% ki hike par mat ro, TAS main selection kay baad jo hike milegi, uski socho!!! :drinking:Look at the bigger picture dude! :w00t::w00t::w00t:

Sure Buddy... TAS is definitely a different ballgame altogether...

but I was just wondering... is this the right way TCS is heading...
Do they ever take into account the braindrain thats happening... unless they want to be an out and out support company... Somehow it seems ridiculous...

Anyways I m going way off topic... Lets concentrate on the task at hand n that should bring us respite from all this

You are right mate, I wonder the same at times. But a lesson to be learnt here is that sometimes the HR policies are designed to implicitly encourage attrition. This might be a reason.

Anyway, we should be thankful that being a TATA employee, no matter which company, gives us a chance to appear for TAS. Compare this with the rat race called CAT, that you have to do well in, then get into the top b-schools of the country, pay 10-12 lacs as fees, slog for 2 years there and give TAS a shot and that too just once!

TAS is an MBA where you are paid (very well) to learn! Best ROI
Btw, Mr. Rahul Krishna is also on PGuy  He mentioned that in the workshop, so don be surprised if he is reading all of this!!!

Hiring, not Attrition, is the buzzword these days... When TCS is hiring close to 30,000 each year why would it want people to leave and then spend millions on hiring laterals... defies my logic...
Also comparing CAT and TAS would not be right (though TAS is one of the ends u can meet through CAT) coz both have their own merits...

See, they are announcing that, but u do know how long ppl have to wait for getting their joining letters now and who really goes to check the numbers??? And they are hiring more than the rate of attrition simply because in support projects, why should they pay someone 7 lacs when the same job can be done in 3-4 lacs by a fresher!

I agree that CAT has its own merits and a comparison would be unfair, but for me TAS has always been a dream and I know CAT is not my cup of tea when I barely scraped through GMAT. Infact, most ppl in the TATA group still don know about TAS. I came to know about TAS when I read the bio of Arun Maira, the ex-Chairman of Boston Consulting Group, India!!!

Btw, are you in office at the moment??? 'Coz I am in office right now for the night shift!

It all makes sense when you realize that ASE are cheap labour. An ITA has a substantially higher salary as compared to an ASE without significant value addition to the company's revenue. TCS is into playing the numbers game. They want a large number of average/ above average people, not a small number of brilliant people (unlike a la Google/Apple).

TCS has always focussed on being bottom heavy. That is their thrust area in mass recruitment as well. They are never as aggressive with lateral recruitment as with recruiting freshers.

Yo to xrometh! We are managers in the making!

Nice posts guys 😃 And thanks for the clarification about the numbers for TAS. Emotionally, yes I was ranting the same about TCS hike, but I guess they are doing good business. I mean, whats the assurance that given a good hike an employee would still not move to better opportunities? Loyalty? I guess TCS does not want to play that card... Anyways as Ashu says this is way off topic but my 2 cents on this.

I would like to think more like CEOs in the making, but oh well one step at a time! 😉

@Xrometh: Yeah! see, we started at the bottom of the ladder by joining as ASEs in TCS and we know how it feels when the "higher management" makes decisions.

Anyone got any case study yet???????

second that...!tcs probably needs to a little more to retain people at the bottom...and should also try helping one facilitate career transition in terms of moving to diffeent processes or understanding business as a whole..TAS is probably the one way which enables one to do so...

Not yet, they indicated it will be sent by 23-Apr to all.
Also, people who are applying for the first time, will get last year's case study ...
while those who had applied will get a new one .......
And this is entirely based on the merit that all who had applied last year did send them an email (and they didn't forget) indicating they had applied or not applied.

So, for someone who had applied and did not send the email, you can expect to get the same case study as last year's.

From where did u get this info?.

I would be surprised if it happens that way.. I feel everyone will get a new case study..
Pritesh is correct. They surely want to segregate the ones who had appeared last year from the ones who did not.
I received a call from TAS Bombay House at 2 am last night.
She asked me if I had appeared for TAS last year. She explained that she needed the information since they had to the case study and other material by 23rd. She simply wanted to make sure.
Since the case-study topics are hardly ever shared, it makes sense that they use the same case-study across years for the first timers.
In any case, they provide with the case-study weeks in advance. For international candidates its more than month to work on the case-study.
I guess the topic does not matter much, what matters is how well you present. How logical and coherent your thinking is. They might test you for your cogency.
Its difficult to keep one's head during the gruelling.

Oh fish! I probably shouldn't be sleeping with my phone off at night!!
Hahaha, :)
This was one of the very few times I felt blessed to be put up at a 24x7 support project.
Cant mostly afford a good night's sleep like the more fortunate souls.
Jokes apart, I guess it would do if you send in a mail with TAS 2009_NO_MYNAME subject.
