I have been recuited On Campus By Infosys in January 2010. I have got Infosys joining date 13-Dec-2010. But I have also been selected by TCS in their Off Campus Drive. They have given me Offer Letter but their Joining Letter is yet to come. I am a Non CS/IT student and don't know much about Computer Languages . I am having great confusion as I have no idea to join which company. I want to know Which is better Company out of two for me? Which Company will provide me better work atmosphere and job security? Also, I am looking to pursue MBA after 2-3 years Work Experience. So which company is better to join? Please help me with your suggestions. I am looking forward to your responses. Thanks in advance.

Go for TCS. Your goals get much more alligned with the TCS kind of environment rather than Infy.

i am a mba student specialising in finance one of the things is that TCS is recruiting in mass numbers for its business analyst post but dont know wat wud be the compensation. those working in tcs plz do tell the starting package of tcs for tier 2 college for the post of business analyst.
and also work to be done and future prospects.

If you are a fresher, its 4.75lakhs p.a and if you have about 24 months "relavant" exp, you will get 5.5lakhs p.a. These figures are approx.

I would suggest, please revisit your decision to join IT Industry immediately after MBA unless you have a very concrete career plan.

IT Analyst is just the designation and not the roles...Roles in TCS are independant of Designations...So wait till you are assigned a project..Only then will you come to know.

So now, he has 2 offers in hand.

It is related to developing side. Not related to networking though the designation sounds tricky

Welcome. I'm not sure abt SE designation in CTS. Initial Pay scale n Career growth ll b quite similar unless some v perform extraordinarily.
naga25french works in CTS. He might guide you.

The hiring manager had taken interview for a CRM Consulting role , for their Enterprise Solution Center of excellence . But it seems IT Analyst can also be a development position.
The offer letter or the designation doesn't not reflects that it has a consulting scope or anything about Enterprise Solution Center of Excellence.
Can I go by their word merely , or they have not given me the right designation ?

I spoke to the HR , and asked if she can mail be the job description as the designation does not reflect a consulting scope.
She said mailing job description is not part of their process and said that you are showing Distrust in us
and said she will connect me to Hiring Manger about your queries regarding Role.

1) Should I question the designation offered as it doesn't reflects a consulting role ?
2) HR has refused to send Job Description
3) She says the role is what was communicated to you.
4) But she said , she can't document it or send an email as business scenario may change ( which indirectly means , I may land up in some other role also )
5) Are they fooling me by offering a development designation , and a consulting role(verbally) to just bring on board ?
6) I have 4 yr exp and am currently desginated as CRM Consultant with a mnc , can I take a risk with their verbal communication or should I reject their offer letter .

Designation and Role are two different things in TCS. Designation is based on your total IT experience and according to your exp ITA (C2 grade) is correct. As far as the role is concerened, you have to check that with your hiring manager as he would have identified you for a specific role.

The next level after IT Analyst is Assistant Consultant and Associate Consultant in the hierarchy.

That doesn't mean that the people with these designations are in to high end consulting as the names might sound.

It is better to have a frank and open discussion with the Hiring Manager regarding your role before you proceed.

I have been following this forum for quite long and must thank you all for the informations.
I am Siddharth. I have a total work exp of around 3.5 years in IT and Operations. Recently I have got an offer from TCS Kolkata.
They are offering me 7.25 lacs p.a. Band is that of an ASE, but they mentioned that my role will be that of a Service Manager.
Can anyone please comment as to how the offer sounds. Also my hometown being Kolkata, I am keen to take this up.
Does the salary sound right for my exp in TCS? Also what is the difference technically between Band and Role in the project?
Also to inform I want to prepare for my MBA, so how does the toal thing sound?
Location: TCS Kolkata (my hometown)
Package: 7.25 lacs p.a
Band: ASE
Role: Service Manager
Would like to pursue my MBA so I have intentions to prepare now.

you really have got a nice bargain for urself :)

ASE band is for associates who fall in th category of total work ex
based on the work ex ... various band/designations given in TCS are : ASE-T >>> ASE >>> ITA >>> Ast Cons. >>> Assc Cons >>> Consultant and so on ...

PS : You get it clear from teh HR about the promotion policy very clearly as on basis what i knw, you can't be promoted to ITA level unless u have spent some 1-2 years in the organisation, but again your salary is at par with ITA level already :)
