Hi. I am currently pursuing an Integrated degree(B.Tech-Dual MBA) which is a five years branch. And I am in final year. The course ends in May, 2012. Mine is a non-IT engineering and MBA in operations(major) and HR(minor).
TCS visited our campus after accredition and offered following profile:
System Engineer(only for B.Tech): 3.16 LPA
System Engineer(only for MCA): 3.20 LPA
Business Analyst(for MBA and Integrated programmes): 5.27 LPA(students without experience) and 5.85(with experience)
RnD: 6-6.5 LPA
I appeared in the Business analyst and got selected for the Management trainee profile with 5.27 LPA. A total of 5 students were only selected for this profile(no experience holders)
I have following queries regarding the offer.
1. What are the probable locations that are offered to Management trainees. (I heard that it is generally Delhi & Mumbai)
2. What are the job role and job responsibility of an MBA guy from operations background ?
3. The offer letter displays a variable of more than 1.23 LPA as variable. On what things does this depend ?
4. It also mentions a full 1 year training.. I heard SE only have 60 days training programme but is Management training really 1 year ??
Also please explain the hierarchy that persists in TCS and where will we lie ?? And by when can we expect the letter of joining ?
Thanks.
Warm Regards.
TCS is coming to our campus for recruiting MBA's.............their eligibility criteria is 60% and above in 10th,12th and Engg.........now my problem is am having 63% in final year but i hav heard tht they take average of 8 sems in engg......if they do so my avg is 59.9%.......will they allow me considering in hav 2 yrs of relevant wrk ex as well?

Hi,
Ive served for tcs for 5 years and can help u understand
how things work there.
In terms of salary, you must keep in mind that Variable component
is a very big figure in tcs pay, and this depends entirely on your performance
and company's performance.
After year end appraisal, if you get a good rating (5-High to 1-Low)
your Variable component shoots up.
However, in the next year end appraisal, if your rating is down (compared to previous year), the variable component would drastically fall down. And since this forms
the major portion of ur take home,ur annual hike would be a decrement instead of an increment.
For eg:, A person X got a rating 4 in 2010 year end appraisal, his salary increment was 12%. But, in 2011, his rating dropped to 3. Now, his salary would be -9% of 2010 year end. This is because, the variable component for a person with rating 3 is less than
that for a rating 4 ( Amounts being kept fixed for various ratings)
Theres one more point to add to the above.
Any person in tcs should maintain his ratings consistenly throughout his/her tenure.
For eg:, a person getting a rating of 3 in a particular year, should get 3 in the coming years. In case, he gets a 4 in any year, his rating should be 4 for the subsequent years.
If at all it falls to 3 in any year, then hes doomed.Cos his salary would be revised with a negative increment.
Then its time to pack your bags and bid good bye.
In terms of onsite opportunities, tcs has abundant.
It totally depends on Projects and years of experience.
TCS has the maximum onsite oppurtunities for US. But, visa initiation and processing
for US would take sometime. These days there are lots of Visa rejections at US consulates. So, TCS processes visas only for people who are very well experienced and apt for onsite deputation (again all depends on your manager). The US visa fees has sky rocketed and TCS would loose the money if a visa undergoes rejection. Generally, a lateral joinee in TCS should be serving minimum of 1-1.5 years at offshore before he is considered for an onsite and visa initiation. For freshers, it would take atleast 2 to 3 years.
All these are for US deputation.
For other countries, it may not be as strict as for US. Again it depends on Projects.
Onsite salaries are also pretty low in TCS especially in the US.
If you are deputed into a Tier -3 city in US, your salary would be very less.
TCS way of classification of cities into different tiers is pathetic.
I have stayed in a city (a suburban area which TCS put under Tier 2) where salary was neat and expenses were manageable.I then relocated to a different city ( as per TCS, a Tier 3), were expenses were very high compared to my previous location(cos it was very close to downtown). And since TCS salary was very less for a tier 3, i encountered loss in my pay.
In terms of Designations, ITA title is given to a person who has min 4 yrs exp.
The next level is Assistant Consultant (for min exp of 7 years).
If at all your annual appraisal rating is less than 3 and you are eligible for a promotion, you wont be considered for a promotion in that year. Which means you may get it only once u complete ur 8th year of service for an upgrade in your designation (Even though u were eligible for it at the 7th year and becos of ur low rating u got screwed both in terms of annual salary and promotion)
Thanks....

Who said something abt TCS firing?
Join urself and find out what happens there.
U say why would a person get 4 after repeated 5s.. Dude, there r lots of instances these things can happen.
Wat'd u think?...Such things don't happen at all anywhere?..Like a person's appraisal gng wrong..Imagine a person who got repeated good appraisals in his account, shifts into a different account due to personal/professional reasons.
This guy wud b treated less experienced (not in his overall years of service but service within the new account compared to his peers who r already serving in the account for many years..and obviously his rating wud fall)..And in the %age hike, the Variable component is impacted..like it wud b fixed for particular year. Eg:, In 2008, the VA for rating 3 is 15000 and VA for rating 4 is 21000
In 2009, the revised VA for rating 3 is 18000 and that for rating 4 is 24000
So if a person's ratings falls from 4 to 3, the VA wud fall from 21000 to 18000
I have witnessed all these things within my projects as well as other accounts...IT IS THE TRUTH
Believe urself or leave it.
Can somebody answr the query... Atleast tell about the variable component and location thing..

I was actually a lateral joinee in TCS ( b4 that i served for Infy 😲 ).
However, i can throw some light for ur queries:
1. most likely which location m gonna get???
Your actual location of posting happens after u successfully complete the ILP(initial training program). Usually, u will get ur preferred location as TCS has centers is most cities in India.
2. will they provide any sort of accommodation for a week or so???
You will be given accomodation during ur entire training period.
Once u are allocated to a project in a location, u r likely to get accomodation for the initial week at their guest houses.
3. what vl b d duration of trng nd location???
Duration of training is usually 1.5 - 2 months (Not sure exactly).
Training happens at Trivandrum or Buwaneshwar or Pune etc...
4. please throw some light on paying guest charges, most preferred locations for accom. in d centre m gonna get.....please!!! i heard pune & banglore r nt easy to afford
This depends on the location of every city (whether it be Bangalore or Chennai or watever). All Metros and Tier 1 cities are expensive.
5. where i m most likely to be sent when my trng goes over???(location)
It depends on your location preference. You will be sent to any one of the 3 choices provided. Most likely u'll get ur first preference. This again depends on Projects and Requirements.
6. most importantly when i vl get joining(any tentative idea)....i vl complete b. tech. in june'12....
Not sure abt this.

In tcs pay is average if ur a good performer otherwise life is all misery and shallows :-(. And be cautious as the word "performance" can be interpreted differently by different people .Life is ok as not much workload is there but if you can do something better then do it. Don't wait to get frustrated and then go for something different:nono: ... which eventually you will do anyways
.

since I have a small kid at home, i would like to know the work pattern as well as pressure at TCS Trivandrum.
If I apply for BA post in TCS and got selected Do I too have to undergo training as u mentioned in the earlier posts
what would be my likely pay package
I dont have corporate experience. I have 6 years of my PhD experience as well as 1 year experience as an econometrician.
what is the procedure to apply under off campus option ?
Should I apply for the post of BA or do they have any post for statistician/econometrician ?
