UBC, Sauder MBA Fall 2012 Applicants and Admits

Even I have been w/listed in Sauder though without an interview. So I think the chances are slim now. I'd applied in R1. I'd also applied to McGill, the interviewer said that my profile is impressive and I'm eligible for schol and then rejected me! I am not getting where things went wrong. I guess they are giving more weightage to experience. My profile: 700, 8/9, avg. acads, 33 months in metals manufacturing (Operations), good ec, good community service.

Hi Guys,

Need your help. I have an offer from Sauder and Schulich. Which one do you guys suggest, in your opinion.. ??
It will be a great help if you can help me decide.

Thanks and Cheers !

Mayank

Definitely Schulich man! Mainly 'coz of the reputation and location in Toronto.

And Harvinder, thanks for those words of relief 😃

Congrats Mayank!!

I would say Sauder but it depends on which B School fits well in your needs.. Both the B schools are good..

Schulich is located on the outskirts of Toronto and faces tough competition in Toronto area from Ivey, Queens, Rotman, McGill.. Moreover, Schulich class is full of Indians - Diversity wise it is very poor.. But then its location helps you if you are targeting jobs in Toronto.. So, if you want to work on the East coast and wanna live in GTA (Toronto) then Schulich is better.. Do not consider Montreal as a job market if you are choosing Schulich unless you are Fluent in French.. About Sauder, UBC as a university is very well reputed (much better than York) and it is ultimately the best B school on the west coast (opportunities in Vancouver and Calgary are open for you - companies there would prefer you any day over grads from the East Coast B Schools).. Quality of faculty and program at Sauder is also very good..

So, overall, it depends on your preferences.. I didn't even apply to Schulich as it was not a fit for me..

Better talk to current students/alums from both the B Schools.. Share your post MBA goal and expectations very clearly to them while discussing as that will eventually led you to come to a conclusion..

Share with us whatever you decide..

Cheers!!

Thank u Swapnil.

For me Schulich fits my goals better than Sauder does. But, Sauder has given me a decent scholarship, so the finances work out better if i consider Sauder. Anyways, will do more research on the 2 before i make my final decision. Will update on this thread soon.

Thanks again.

Thank u Swapnil.

Schulich fits my goals and experience better as it has very particular courses that cater to my interest. My dilemma is mainly because i have received a decent scholarship from Sauder, so the finances work out in Sauder's case. But, i think i should be seeing the picture in the long run.

Will anyways do more research and talk to more people. Will update my final decision on the forum.

Thanks again.

Rightly said.. Analyze what suits you more in the long run before taking the final call.. MBA is a one time and a big investment.. :)

Cheers!!

What industry are you interested in? I did my undergraduate at Schulich so I can answer questions about their MBA if you have any. From what I understand, with a friend currently in their MBA at Schulich (who also did his undergrad there) it's been very tough to find a job this year from there. They take a lot of students and their career resource centre is shared with all the other programs (IMBA, BBA, IBBA) so it can be difficult.

If you give me your profile and targeted industry, I may be of help.

Edit: Posted twice

@BetterthanBest

Hi there.
You should start your Visa procedures immediately.(after getting your admission offer ofcourse)
if all goes well, Im guessing your interview will take place in the next few weeks and then youll get your admission offer in a few weeks after that.
September is only 5 months away, Also if you plan to take any of the pre courses, then youll have to plan to be in Vancouver early August.

dont give up hope, with your high GMAT score, you still have a chance, you never know. Keep your fingers crossed.

Thanks! Skinnybob

It seems that my poor undergraduate GPA was the problem. That is why I tried to get a 700-plus GMAT score. It did not work, though.

I am waiting for a reply from SFU MBA. (It is a one-year program, which seems to be attractive to me).
I am thinking of Vancouver only. (My brother lives there).

Hope to see you guys at Sauder but it seems that chances are not good.

Me in same boat as you . any idea till when we will be able to know final status

I am waiting for a reply from SFU MBA.

Hi Possum, the SFU MBA is also a good program, they have a decent career service program, though I dont know much about it. But it is well recognised along with the Sauder MBA program atleast in the Vancouver area.

Hi Harvinder, to be honest thats a tough question. Im guessing that admit offers will have to be rejected first. From my understanding a lot of students (international atleast) apply to multiple universities like Mcgill, schulich (Spelling?) , Ivey, Rotman.... so there is a always a good chance that a seat can open up. So hang in there.
