Verbal Group for CAT 2018

The collaborative preparation group for CAT 2018 Verbal

Verbal section is the most underrated section of CAT. This perception comes from a hypothesis that "Verbal can be done later on" or "Verbal to ho jayegi". This group aims to provide a platform for Verbal preparation.

Let us collaborate with our resources, skills and straegies to ace verbal.

HOW TO ACE Reading Comprehension Part 1

There are primarily 4 essential points

1 ) Increase your breadth of reading so that you are not fazed by any RC topic. For this devote at least half an hour reading opinion/editorial/op-ed section of any English Daily such as TOI, HT, ET or The Hindu. Since CAT is online, you can read their digital editions also along with articles on scroll.in Aeon.co nytimes.com guardian.com for past many years CAT has picked articles from guardian nytimes bbc.com .. so it is good to read articles from them

2) Second part of the answer is to solve 3 RC passages from your study material. Analyse these passages and see why you got questions wrong. Discuss this with your teacher and try improving with each RC

3) use a speed reading app to improve your speed. one such good app is spreeder.com

4) increase your vocabulary so that you are do not get stuck at tough words. use a good vocabulary app for this. One good applicaion is VoLT or you can use visual vocabulary slides which you can find at https://www.slideshare.net/search?q=rohit+nayak&utm_source=opensearch&searchfrom=opensearch

Happy Learning.

#vocabulary #CATVocabulary

One of the most challenging aspects of CAT is vocabulary. Though CAT has not asked vocabulary questions for some years now, other exams do ask them explicitly.

Average Number of Vocabulary Based Questions

IIFT >> 8 questions ( Syn/Ant - 2, Spellings 2, Analogies -2 , FIBs-2)

NMAT >> 12 questions (Syn/Ant-2 , FIBs -6)

XAT >> 6-8 questions ( Syn/Ant-2 ,Few Vocab questions in RC)

SNAP >> 15 questions ( Syn/Ant - 4, Spellings-2 , Idioms- 3, FIBs- 6)

MAT >> 9 questions ( Syn/Ant -6 , FIBs- 3)

Vocabulary plays an important role in CAT. one of the biggest problems a CAT aspirant faces in RC passages is complex vocabulary.

So mastering vocabulary or at least becoming familiar with words is a must.

There is a 3 phase/stage process to master vocabulary

Stage 1) Pick a good source for learning vocabulary

>> Word Power Made Easy

>> Visual Vocabulary Slides [We made them exclusively for entrance tests such as CAT/XAT ] https://www.slideshare.net/search/slideshow?searchfrom=header&q=rohit+nayak

>> VoLT app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rrpublication.volt.volt&hl=en

>> Learn from contexts

Whenever you read a newspaper article, passage and come across a new word, try to figure out its meaning from the context before you look up the dictionary.

For Example

Rajan pinkyponked his energy after climbing 5 staircases.

Now if he is climbing 5 staircases, this means he is goind up 5 stories, thus he will exhaust his enregy. thus the meaning of the word is exhaust / finish / consume

>> Look out for Word Origins

Every time you look up the word in the dictionary, make sure you identify the word root. Word Origin hold the key in the opening the lock of word memorization. A single root can add multiple words to your word stock.

>>  Associate Words with People & Pictures

A simple trick of learning words is associating them with pictures and the people you know. At the end of the day, our memory works best when it has to learn through photos and not through text. So associate as many words as you with visual depictions in your mind.

Stage 2 ) after you have spent good amount of time at learning, start testing yourself

here are some good resources :

sat.tyrannosaurusprep.com [level 1]

gre.tyrannosaurusprep.com [level 2]

stage 3) solve Fill In The Blank questions from a good source such as

old XAT SNAP IIFT papers.

visit our page for daily GK updates and word a day

https://www.facebook.com/IMSLudhiana/

Let us solve one RC per day. We all can post one RC per day alternately and then solve and discuss the answers

  • YES, I want in
  • No, I am happy without RC

Because of the recent transformation of the market. Quore, Inc., must increase productivity, 10 percent over the course of the next two years, or it will certainly go bankrupt. In fact, however, Quore’s production structure is such that if a 10 percent productivity increase is possible, then a 20 percent increase is attainable.

If the statements above are true, which one of the following must on the basis of them also be true?

(A) It is only Quore’s production structure that makes it possible for Quore to survive the transformation of the market.

(B) Quore will not go bankrupt if it achieves a productivity increase of 20 percent over the next two years.

(C) If the market had not been transformed, Quore would have required no productivity increase in order to avoid bankruptcy.

(D) Because of the transformation of the market, Quore will achieve a productivity increase of 10 percent over the next two years.

(E) If a 20 percent productivity increase is unattainable for Quore, then it must go bankrupt.

What mateirals can I study for VARC if I already have a medium to strong aptitude in the same. TIA.
