Which Test-Series to choose?

Hi Puys,

Which all institutes have started "online" MOCK CATS ? As far as i knw... Career Launcher has started already.. with their online mocks... ( becoz i was enrolled wid them).... wat abt the rest ?

Going thru this forum... i noticed that TIME seemed to best choice as far as CAT 08 was concerned...Do u ppl reckon.. its gonna be same this time around too??

Thanks in advance

AFAIK, TIME has already started their test series with an open mock. But they will have 10 paper based tests initially...no idea how they will be useful in the changed scenario...furthermore, TIME provides 6 online mocks out of which 3 are CD based...so no percentiles for those three... i think CL/IMS may prove to be better this time

So far TIME is the best! 😁

Hi puys. Please help me.I wish to join for aimcat and CL's mock cat series.Need to know whether mock cat dates will clash or not.
Thanks in advance.

All the best

Even if it clashes there is an option to take AIMCATs on Monday (It was there last year so I assume it to be this year as well )..and I think instead of CL u can join IMS...although a personal opinion

Hello people!
Here's a predicament.

I've joined the AIMCATs of TIME.
I wish to join another series so that I don't get used to just one type of questions.

Could anyone list the pros and cons of the test series of CL and IMS in terms of variety of questions and quality of sections (especially VA)?

Thanks.

As far as VA in concerned I think IMS is better than CL.....

Join the TIME Extended AIMCAT. It is very helpful. Apart from CAT you can also crack JMET,NMAT,IIFT etc as the mock papers are on similar lines.

Thanks.
NMIMS Class of 2009-11

any of them conduct exams on Saturdays??

is cl test better or ims?

writing aimcat on monday everyweek is tough.....bcoz time esp in chennai dont entertain this...they need a valid reason...and if u need to write in monday an email has to be forwarded to them stating the reason...monday test only in adyar branch

depends on u....ims s known for its quality material in verbal....

Isnt it true that AIMCAT by TIME has the highest no. of enrolled students?? This makes the competition much closer to real CAT?? Whatsayy??

definitely...time has by far the highest no. of test takers...in mid 30Ks.....but does that really make it closer to the real CAT?? u need to go by paper standards, pattern changes to be comparable to real CAT...everything has its downside....TIME doesnt show innovativeness in pattern changes....so the surprise factor goes...plus TIME DI is quite tough...i have seen many ppl who get demoralised with TIME DI

the moral of the story is...nothing except the real one is perfect

well all i have to say is that join more than 1 test series....
last year initially i gave only time aimcats and after a couple of mockcat's i got used to the time way of setting mockcats...their was no shock factor for me...its only in OCT that i joined ims and that did help me fine tune my prep...
the time DL section at times is ridiculous..i mean solving just 4 questions would be enuf to clear the cutoff's and that i simply nonsense..at times i could only solve 1-2 qusetions and that would demoralise me....but thenh again i got my confidence back in the evening session when i gave ims simcat...

this year things look bit tricky...not only do you want to know your All India postion but also u have to get used to the online format..so that makes it much more important for one to go for more than one test series...
i'll be joining time aimcats in mid july and also give mockcat's by byju..

wel time wl also b conductin online tests...n more no. f ppl tak aimcats so ur percentile wil b v close 2 ur cat percentile..so gues time is stil d bst bet!

In my opinion at the end of the day, the number of test takers doesn't really matter a lot. The test (s) boil down to "me" vs the question paper.

I always felt that one should attempt mocks as "mocks" and try out different strategies and figure out how flexible one is.

@ above

I agree that the test boils down to you vs the paper, but you still need at least a decent number of competitors to know your standing. I would say that anything above 15,000 enrolled test takers would be sufficient to give you a fairly accuracte idea of your standing (15,000 would b a gud representative sample space 😃 )... After that, the number of aspirants doesn't matter a lot.

Comparing mock papers of past few years, I find the following:

IMS : Pretty good papers, lots of experimentation in terms of paper structures to get you used to the 'shock factor'. Though, their DI is slightly on the easier side. Their Verbal is rightly touted as the best of all, especially when it comes to explanations of solutions.

TIME : Good Maths section, English OK, but DI is astronomically difficult. Its good if you want to test the limits of your DI (sometimes the solutions of DI sets leave you spellbound!). But they seem unrealistically difficult. Very few variations in the test structures. Last year, more than 50% of their papers had the same pattern as the previous year CAT(i.e. 2007).

PT: Aboslutely useless papers. All sections ridiculously calculation intensive and difficult. Verbal is also not worth it. Find some papers and solve the set only to gain an experience of hlengthy sets so that you can spot them and leave them in an actual paper.

CL : CL produced some pretty good papers last time, with balanced difficulty level on all sections. Sufficient experimentation with the structures and I was particularly impressed with the Maths sections.
