Hi,
I just saw this thread today. Sorry if these queries have already been asked before.
1. I have 26 months of work ex in IT. I want to do my MBA in Finance. How valuable will my work ex be during my placements? Will exp in IT sector have some value or will I be treated as a fresher?
2. I have got thru Great Lakes 1 yr course. Waiting for few more results(2 yr MBAs). If I will have to change my career to finance, will there be a major difference btw a 1 yr MBa and a 2 yr MBA? I have heard 1 yr MBA is not advisable for a career change.
Thanks,
Pavan
I have converted TAPMI and have IMI interview lined up. Keen on taking up Finance as majors.
Now the point is I am an engineer with 26 months of work-ex in manufacturing sector. I resigned in sept last year so I am basically free these days and planning to start preparing in a way that would hone me in finance related concepts.
Any links for the material or the general guideline as to where to start from would be quite helpful.

IIM-A (how can we miss this one?)
IIM-L

I am a bachelor of management studies graduate and would like to get into IB. I've passed Level 1 CFA and live in Mumbai. Can you please tell me what options are available within the city with the given qualifications.
helloo sir..can u plz tell me is xime bangalore a good college for finance??
Guys,
Got thru NMIMS. Still waiting for XLRI results. I will be taking finance as my specialisation though I am from IT background. I am planning to start preparing for few certifications..
I thought of registering for CFA level I. Registrations are closed for June 2012. There are no centres in India for Dec 2012. Please suggest whether the earliest I can take the exam is June 2013 which is very far from now.
How are other exams for a finance fresher like me?? How is NCFM?? I have heard it is not worth spending time to prepare for NCFM. I dont think so. How true is it??
Thanks,
Pavan

First of all congrats for NMIMS
Second, You can register for CFA Level 1 Dec'12 exams. currently there are no centres in India but it has been the trend since a couple of years that the centres in India are anounced 2 mths prior to the exam.
Third, IMO no exam is not worth the effort if it relates to your area of interest other than that u can check first few pages of the thread where u will find a list of other certifications u can go for.
Hope that helps

Well my 2 cents
CFA & NCFM modules have a totally different outlook altogether primarily because they cater to different needs so u cant compare both the modules.
As far as spending 1 lac for CFA is concerned then u also have to look at the acceptablity & the scope in the market of the courses & also the content in CFA is LOT MORE detailed than NCFM.
Although when it comes to relevance of CFA when u r into MBA Finance people generally do it along with their MBA as it broadens their understanding of Investment Banking as a domain.
Hi harry4u9,
Thanks a lot :)
Dont you think it is risky to register now and later I find that there are no centres in India?? In case centres in India open, will it happen before the registration closes for Dec 12 exam?? In that case I can atleast wait till August deadline.
What do you suggest me?? Though CFA exams are far from now, shall I start with CFA preparations or better to do some NCFM certifications now and then move on to CFA later..

No its not at all risky & even if they dont announce centres in india u can choose kathmandu or columbo whichever suits you.
You can run through the NCFM modules which will give u a basic idea after which u can get into details through CFA modules..
