Hi,

I was there at the Woodrose Club when the GDPI for the 8:30 slot on 6th March were on.

It was 5 years ago, that I was interviewed for the same

The nervousness of the candidates..the reading of the notes... newspapers..talking on the fone for long...anything to reduce their nervousness..

I was carrying my laptop, hoping to do some work, while I wait for the GD PI to over and get to meet the Professors, instead of that I spent a lot of time observing the candidates...

Just wanted to correct something here... Prof Nagarajan is not a member of the Bangalore Panel, there is another person by the name Prof Debu, I had a wonderful interaction with him.

Met Prof Parulekar, and Prof Nirmalya, they both are marketing faculty at GIM.

Had a long interaction with Prof Parulekar and loved every moment of it.

There were quite a few very confident faces amongst the candidates, I am sure.they will make it through.

tht was the case wd me also....they mr fernandes was finished wd me in abt 5mins...he said me to go and then as soon as i was abt to go me ghosh came in...he said he isnt finished yet and took my interview for around 20 more minutes....he was acting to be very rude to me also...but i pacified him for wht he asked....surely i also was a bit blank in some answers but never lost my cool.....
they were actually trying to stress us in think....

I had somewhat similar experience.. they dint ask me anything in paticular ! the same profs i guess ! all the best !

was completely grilled for 25 minutes....

My GD/PI was on 1st in delhi. the GD went well as i had an extremely well behaved group(Did not turn into a fish market):cheerio:. after the discussion we were all asked to sum it up in one sentence. and then we were asked to write an essay. The topic of the GD was Legalizing Homosexuality: A Victory for the basic right to privacy
The entire GD was positive and nobody was against legalizing.(Surprising) but i gs no one wanted to take a chance.:lookround:


My interview experience SUCKED....
There were two people on the panel. Two Sirs. one from Eco and the other from Finance. They asked me about my family background which i told them. Why such a low %ile in maths. 61.79. I answered it decently.

Then i was asked about my course curriculum. I have done Eng(h) from DU and i told them of all the texts and novels in my course. They weren't interested.


Then the interview spiraled out of control

I was grilled about the budget for the next 10 minutes and being a literature student i wasn't comfortable with the nitty gritties of it.

Post that i was just told that i shud no wat i was talking about and asked a general question regarding the GD topic.


On the whole it was a so so experience. Could've been better:oops:

I hope the rest have a better interview. Bestos guyzzzz:thumbsup:

I had my GD-PI on 2nd March, Mumbai, 8.30 AM

XAT Percentile: 86.31 (ATMA: 99.18 Not sure which is better and will eventually be considered!

10th: 74.8
12th: 64.8
Graduation: B.E/CS/63.3
Work-Ex: 45 months (IT industry)

GD Topic: Too many engineers and very few dreamers
We were about 12 people in total. Were divided into two groups. The same process was followed, everyone made an opening statement, then open to all and closing statements in reverse order and were made to write the gist at the very end. The GD went well. No fish market types. Everybody spoke well and with valid points. I chipped in pretty late but made couple of points. Came in like 4 times or so. My performance wasn't the greatest, was like very average..

Post our GD, we were asked to provide a gist of it. Alas, we were given only 5 mins to write. Boy, some rush of blood!

We were asked to wait while the second group finished their discussion and then we were called in for our PI in the same order we were seated during the GD. I was the third one.

PI: Disaster starts here...

Two Profs, one Middle Aged Prof (P), other one a bit old Prof (O).

O: Gestured me to sit.
Me: Thank you!
O: Tell me about yourself
Me: Had barely started with the answer -> bomb: was interrupted by O! discussion started..

Something about technology (that I spoke of) had fueled the discussion and O interpreted my every statement in a way that I no way meant them to be interpreted. (may be to stress me out) And from here on it was all downhill..

Me: continued.. I by mistake said "thats about my work-ex"
O: I never asked you about your work-ex..
Me: (awestruck) .. spoke something bout my background... (cud see the disinterest on prof O's face)

there were few more questions resulting from the above discussion which were like stressful (dont remember what exactly), accompanied by some serious confidence dampening remarks by O! man it was barely 5 - 7 mins into the interview.....

Then, god nos what struck prof O, he came back to a normal question
O: Why GIM?
Me: Started with the answer. Interrupted!
O: Some cross questions on my answer.
Me: tried my best to tackle them but was cut short most of the times and he never seemed convinced. Though, I did put across a few valid points about why gim (and O said a good n all for i think one or couple of them), but dunno if they ever noticed finer justifications in the answer.

Anyways, interview went on (I was quite certain at this point that it was noway goin my way)
O:Why MBA??
Me: I was well prepared for this. started.. interrupted!
O: Cross question
Me: Tried to answer.
O: Not convinced. ye woh asia waisa..
Me: thinking: "Nothing new sir... N then i was like sir aap kuch bhool rahe hai.." bang!
O: Remarks: this time he made it clear to me that he not only thinks i dunno anything but he also doesnt understand my answers...
Me:

O: Why me?
Me: Hmmm.. silence... few things went on in my mind in that split second of silence. 1. I would be interrupted again during my ans, 2. This interview is not going my way 3. No MBA this year!... 4. 😞 :(

Mera to dimaag sookh hi gaya tha but saath saath moo bhi sookh gaya tha... 😞 paani paani.. do baatli rakhe they lekin I guess they were for the profs... and wat had happened in the last 7 8 mins, I dint wanna enrage the profs any further by asking for a glass/ bottle of water.. end result: andar se saliva production badhaaney ki koshish jaari ki...

Me: Answered finally.
O: Said a good on one occasion..
O: Some more generic questions around the topic of discussion
Me: Tried to answer, faltered on few occasions..
O: few demoralizing remarks..
Me: I thot for a second (in my defense) and blurted something which came out wrongly (mistake n i guess final nail in the coffin).

O: Oh so you think we teach such a thing in the college. pause.
Me: I was quick to pounce on the situation, and correct my statement and to what i meant. i justified it too with an ex.. I just wish that my justification was taken into consideration... anyways

If O introduced P... he is into IT domain.. P seemed lil less aggressive than O though.

P: Fav Subject in engineering..
Me: damn.. Answered
P: Why
Me: awed... (this was the only thing i cud brush up yesterday sir, thats y it is my fav subject today).. Anyways, I answered why with a genuine reason...
P: oh this is why you like it?? Had a hearty laugh, both of them..
Me: (a smile broke on my face, not cos the Profs were laughing but smiling at my so sorry state!)

P: Some more tech questions on what I had just blurted out...
Me: Answered them ok kinda.. Big time cross questioning.... I was kinda kewl with cross questioning by this time..

P: Since you are a coder (he kept telling this word like 5 times)... answer this question. Gave me some tech question.
Me: I asked for inputs and asked him the desired output. he gave me some specs..
Me: Answered logically.
P: Not convinced
Me: Why?
P: gave me a particular scenario.
Me: I told him its one off cases and can be handled with a slight tweaking.
P: Worst answer
Me: (ye to hona hi tha....)
P: He told me something, which I cud no way connect to the tech question he asked.
Me: (I wanted to ask him the connection b/w the two , cos for once i was certain i was right and not only that i also knew it was not the worst answer:), after all i am a "coder" (but i was like abhi mai cross question karne laga to meri urthi utha ke le jaani padegi.. kept quite.)

P: suddenly changes course, if u gonna do ur MBA, u will loose out a lot of money, u r earning well now... and will increase in next two years.. why lose xxx money by doing MBA??
Me: Since Prof P was lil less aggressive than O, I answered him pretty well.. seemed kinda convinced..

And then came the line which i wanted to hear for last 20 mins:
O: Any questions??
Me: Yes (And I was genuinely inquisitive bout it)
Me: Asked.
O: One sentence ans. (killing smiles on his face)
Me: I kept staring at him. (Sir???)
O: Then he started like "to be more cooperative...... "
Me: Couple more questions
O: Answered.
Me: Thank you.

Was about to get up, all of a sudden P asks
P: sorry, I shouldn be asking now, but what happened?? (have a health problem. Prof O had asked me bout it wen i entered the room in the morning, b4 GD n PI, so prof O kinda knew prof P dint I guess)
Me: told
P: how long will it take for you to get well?
Me: tried to explain the complexity.. but I cut it short.
P: Are you covered?
Me: No. Exhausted my coverage last year on my treatment. (Was about say the next sentence..)
P: (immediately) See hidden costs.. U will lose more money.. not gonna help you for MBA
Me: My father may cover me for this time round..
P. ok.
Me: (waited for 5 more seconds for any questions), Thank you everyone.

O told me to send the next guy in. I bid adieu!

The interview went on for like 20 - 25 mins. may have missed few things here n there while posting.

The highlight of the whole interview was that the Profs always tried to stress me out.. end result: quality of answers suffered.

P.P.P.S. I am totally disappointed and pretty much devastated especially with my PI. Honestly, this was my only call of the season and it easily ended with my horrendous PI.

GD topic: related to IT industry growth.Has it platued .Do we need to think of some other engine in IT..

Opening statement: described IT industry and comparsion of exports of indian it b/w 97 and 2010 by giving some figures.
During gd, made points IT can be good source for employment too. and few more points by giving proper figures.In fact i have given most no of figures in my group

My gd was gud with lots of figures bu pi ,i dnt have any idea.
I remained cool n laughing during interview as now have got havbitual of attending this situation form my company. but academics was bad..

Seniors any idea..as they were making fun whwatever i said.I knew that was stress int but had these kind of interviews occured even earlier

Had my GDPI on 6th March at Woodrose Club Bangalore - 8.30am !!

GD Topic-Should Facebook be banned in office - wasting productive time @office..
Had 9 members in the team,, most of them with workex!!!

GD went on fine.. no fish market scenario... at times felt it was becoming more of a one on one conversation (puys plz maintain eye contact with everyone in the group and not just one person -"its a GROUP DISCUSSION")

PI lasted for around 15 minutes...

Panel had 2 prof from marketing...was kind of trying to give you "STRESS" during interview
P1 was asking most of the question, P2 was observing the whole process most of the time..

P1 asked for my resume and then started taking the interview..
P1-Oh you left your job, why did you resign..
Me- Gave my reason.

P1-ok, so you are a biotechnology graduate?
Me- Yes sir..

P1-So what is a Ribosome?
Me- :-((( Told what I could remember.

P1- Tell me something more about it?
Me- Gave my answer and told thats all i am sure of..

Asked more questions based on botany... told was interested more in biotechnology and was not in touch with the subjects for past two years..

P1- but these are basic things,should we reject you because you are not very sure about the answers..
Me- Tried to convince them that should not be just one reason to reject me..

P1-So what was your work in company xyz?
Me- Told :-)))

P1-So why should we take you, we have so many other people with more than 2 years work ex?
Me- some gyaan....

P1- So why GIM?
Me- Told

P1- So what other calls do you have?
me- told

P1- asked something regarding location of GIM, don't remember the question exactly

Interview became lot more interesting from here...
P1- ok one last question, i am going to give you a real time scenario-you have finished your mba and got a really nice job with high salary, growth etc.. but have to travel abroad for work and your mother is alone at home.. you have two options 1.be with your mom 2.take up the job and leave mom alone at home.. what will you do?

Me- Said can always take my mother along with me..

P1- No you dont have that option what will you do?
Me- have 2 elder sisters, they will always be ready to take care of her and some gyaan..

P1- No you dont have that option too.. due to some reasons your sisters can't take care of your mom, then what will you do?
Me- If have to choose between mother and job, will stay with mother and will not take up that job.. and can always find another job..

P1- ok thats it, asked P2 if he has anything to ask?
P2 was observing all the while, asked me if I am stressed, for some reasons I was really not stressed and said No...P1 agreed with me and said she is not at all stressed :-))) and laughed for the first time in the interview :-))))

P2 said he don't have anything much to ask and asked me if I have any question
Me-asked one question

P1 and P2 together answered....

Overall GDPI went fine, they try to give you some stress... keep a smiling face all the time :-)))

Give your best puys, there are no failures and mistakes in life only Lessons!!!!

Overall a healty discussion. Could enter twice but had only one thing on my mind. Whenever I enter I will make a different point. I wont repeat the point.

PI:
I was the first one to be called. One sir (S), one mam (M) and and helpless me (A)
I had kept my resume inside the file. Read in one of the post that if you are working, carry your resume in whichever interview you go.

M: Have your seat and can you please give me your file.
S: Tell me something about yourself?
A: Told. Included my academics and my family background.
M: Infosys Bangalore? (Had told that my sis is in Infosys)
A: No Mam. Hyderabad
M: And you?
A: TCS Chennai
S: Tell something about your work/job.
A: Told
M: So you are an ASE with 40 months and you are a lead.
A: Mam, not the project lead but a module lead.
M: You are in such a good position. Why do you want to leave it.
S: Why MBA?
A: Told
S: What is investment banking? (Had told about stocks and investment in prev ans)
A: Told.
S: I didnt get. Can you say it again.
A: Explained him in detail whatever I knew.
S: Be careful with your words. This is not something what investment banking is.
A: Sorry sir. (Jahan panah. Tussi great ho. Tohfa kubul karo)
S: Your scores are constantly decreasing. 86, 76, 63. What next. 52 in GIM.
A: Gave some funda that scores are less in just 5 and 6 sem. After that the graph again increased.
S: What happened in 5 and 6 sem.
A: Again funda. Many reasons like started enjoying the college life, cupid struck and break off. These all affected. (Kaun samjhaye ki VTU se baut mushkil se to pass ho paya hun)
M: What are the two things you like in TCS?
A: Told
S: What is one thing you want to change in TCS?
(I heard it as What is one thing for which you want to change TCS)
A: For a better salary
S: Repeated the ques. Change in TCS.
A: Told
S: What do you do to entertain yourself?
A: Told
S: Which software you use to edit videos? (Had told in prev ques that I edit photos and videos)
A: Told
S: Which are the TV programs you watch?
A: Generally I dont get much time to watch TV and I watch some movies, songs and one or two serials (Should have told that I read news on the net. Probably they were expecting some news channels.)
S: Give me one reason, just one why should we take you.
A: Told.
S: Thank you Avinash and ask the next person to stand near the gate

It was over in about 10-15 minutes. Reached center at 8:30 AM and was done with GDPI by 10:15 AM.
Next two days in Bangalore. Enjoy Maadi.

Overall a nice experience. I feel my XAT and my grad score are my biggest roadblocks. Hoping for the best. :cheerio:

PS: Uparyukt likhi kuch baatein (Answers) kalpnik hain aur inka waastavik jeevan se koi sambandh nahi hai.

PPS: I forgot my specs in Blor. If anyone is coming from Blor to Chennai in next few days, plz PM me. If possible I will ask my friend to give it to you and I will collect it here. Its still two weeks before I will go to Blor again. Tab tak meri ankhon ki watt bole to durgati ho jayegi.

GDPI Date - 5th March, 1.30pm @ Hotel Ginger, Delhi

Reached just 5mins before and was impressed by GIM punctuality when they started attendance @ 1.30 SHARP

Only 12 students(all boys) includin me in the hotel. VEry impressive ppl with high percentiles and work-ex. We bonded very well.

FRESHER

@1.35PM they took first group in and I checked their faces inside conference room from toilet(height of nervousness - went 10 times ). Their looks wasnt good

Our group(6 ppl) GD turn came.

Sat orderwise. After briefing, they gave rules and invited questions.

GD TOPIC - "Cricket has killed all other spots in India"

Started and Did very well in it. And a cordial group. bit of fish market. but everyone spoke.

Then came the bouncer. They said to write essay on the same in 10mins. But, they stopped us in just 4mins. Cudnt write much.

Submitted our sheet and waited for GD

Mine as 2nd last chance

Usually on an avg PI were going on for 10-15mins

I was called inside

Me - Goodafternoon sir

P1 & P2 - Goodafternoon. Plz sit

Me - Thanks

P1(senior faculty in finance) - ur XAT score

Me - Gave ATMA first and then XAT. Bit impressed looks by ATMA score

P2 - So, u did ur undergrad in M&S;?

Me - Yes sir. I want to persue my career in the same

P1 and P2 - Asked me abt acads. Gave all answer. Some were Legen....wait for it...Darys type.

P2 - U can go. Both with smiling faces


But here's the issue. It lasted for 5 Mins only!!!!!!!!! No general question of why and how. Even my strong section of ECA wasnt probed. Just flat bye-bye!

One thing that is troubling me is that its PREDECIDED.

Maybe, my past 6yrs have pre-decided the game or my gdpi performance can do the Magic

Hi All,

Hope many of you would have done well in GD/PI.Hoping to see many of you here.

So,many of you will be wondering what next? What to do you in the remaining time? Wait for the results? Checking the websites of various college in which you have applied? Checking the threads of the respective colleges?
Many of you would have been in momentum after preparing, that sitting idle will make you feel bored.Many of you must be wondering what should I do so as to add more value to my CV/knowledge database before I ended up in GIM or any other college.
Don't be in so much hurry.So,take a chill pill for a week,watch movies,read some good novels,do some TP in office and :drinking:.Then think of doing something.
After a week,there are many ways by which you can quench your thirst of knowledge which may be helpful once you enter in B-skool :

1.Certifications : NSE certifications.Go to the website and register yourself.The certifications will add little value in terms of profile building(as many companies in B-skools think that they are easilty doable) but from the learning perspective,it is awesome.Those of you are interested in Finance as Majors will learn a lot from those certifications.Refer the below links :

2.Read ET : Now you are not under pressure of remembering facts and figures.So,read ET for pleasure.Learning becomes fun when it is done for seeking pleasure.Take your time.Understand things.They will come handy once you enter into B-skool.The other reason is,many people still have the psychological barrier of reading ET.The brown pages repel them.And even after one year of MBA,they are not into habits of reading ET.So,you better overcome the psychological barrier and make it habit.The newspaper will teach you so many things that the courses in MBA college will not teach you.Trust me on this,you will be the GOD of Finance.:thumbsup:

3.Participate in Online quizzes : A way to increase your GK.And if you are good at it you can win many prizes in the inter-B-skool events .I hope many of you would be aware but still there is a website dare2compete.com which is the repository of the various events lined up.Once you participate in them,your mind will open.And it is fun ,it is something which makes your adrenaline rush.

Oh yes,don't rush to them now,give yourself pleasure of preparing hard for the things.Chill pill,then get into moderate action.

Have fun and please don't ask any queries related to above :lookround: like which certification you should go for and all.Follow the threads as mentioned.

Just Back From a 2-Day Hiatus from GOA...I have been to GOA 7 times before but This time around it was more of a stick-to-the-schedule kind of Affair.

Prologue
Landed In GOA on the 7th morning and went to Panjim. From Panjim, I took a bus to Sanquelim Bus stand . It took me half an hour to tell the guys where I wanted to go, Only to understand later that it is pronounced as Sakhlim.
Anyways, Upon Reaching Sakhlim, I discovered that there are no hotels there, so had to travel back to Bicholim and stayed at a hotel for a night.
Nights in GOA and that too a night just before Interview is reason enough to motivate you to :drinking::drinking::drinking: and Sleep. :cheerio:

 I had been Reading Experiences From puys on this thread Since a Long time and it was about Time that I faced my own.

I reached the Campus at around 7.40 and there was not a Soul to be seen .Slowly, Guys started turning up at 8. The First Person I met on the campus was our very own Jatin (vars.jat) and he was as helpful as he is here on PG.:thumbsup:
We waited for sometime in the Library and the GD/PI was supposed to happen on the first floor of the same building. Our GD group had 8 guys and 1 gal and We were ushered into the room exactly at 8.30 and were seated in order.:

Our Panel Consisted of Ajit Parulekar Sir(Marketing) and Rashi Ma'm(HR).
We were forewarned by the seniors that Ajit sir can be really on the face and we should focus on the Content of the matter.

We were Given instructions on how the GD should be conducted and that we should behave
Then he Told us the GD topic : Parents Should watch MTV roadies and Splitsvilla to better understand their Children.

I was the second last person and 5 out of 7 before me supported the statement so I decided that I will take up a stand against it.:oops:
The GD was a nice experience. Everyone Chipped in and contributed.
I personally Spoke 2-3 times and then we all Concluded it.
Overall Good.:thumbsup:

Now I had to wait for almost 2 hours before I had my PI.
Seniors made it a lot less painful here.
Special thanks Again to vars.jat and vivek (not on PG i guess) . Jatin gave a nice tour of the campus with a trip to the hostel.(More about the campus later on).

Then finally the time passed as I was TPing all around and finally it was my turn at around 12.30.
I went inside.
The panel was the same as the GD: Ajit sir(P1) , Rashmi Ma'm( P2) and Moi()

:Mam I was just interacting with fellow interviewees.

:most of us are fro different background like civil, chemical, electronics and Comp Sci. One guy is even into editing so lots of new stuff to talk about.
P1: Tell Me about yourself Dev ....
: Bakar Bakar Bakar Bakar,.... Chapar Chapar Chapar...... and so I have been doing theater for 2 yrs now...
P1:theater, So why MBA now....

About the College:
The Campus is coming up fantastically and would be a sight to watch once it is complete.
Vars.jat took us around and Showed us the Acad block , the hostel rooms, Cafeteria , amphitheater and I also managed to have a sneak peek into his classroom which seem all tech-ed up.

I am just hoping that I become a part of this institute now ....A suspense that will unveil itself in 3 weeks.....

We were waiting in the lounge of The wood-rose club,at around 8 45 a marketing proff Nirmalya Bandyopadhyay(Reffered GIM site to know his name): has come to take attendance of one of the two groups which they decided b4 hand.We were asked to sit in a conference room(That hall has got glass walls...a factor which worked against me..I was looking who r all walking on da road...dat was a club wer ppl(girls also):lookround: come to ply and do some exrecise in da morning so..u cant kant keep ur eyes with u....)

Finally Mr Nirmalya announced the topic luking into his mobile phone:Should facebook be banned in companies, which will waste employs productive time.

each of us were asked to make an opening statement and we obeyedThen the actual GD started it went smoothly in the begining but after 1-2 mins ppl are revolving around the same points and I noticed both the panelists nodding their heads:oops:(will tell u y i mentioned this statement in my PI episode) the they asked to summarize or a closing statement by each of us.If ur not crisp and beating around the bush they are stopping u in the midway be careful(GD/PI for this year is done...but still for future aspirants)

They asked us to wait outside then slowly people started speaking to each other,the real worry started after hearing that in my batch there are ppl who got calls form IIM-b%&*%$ and NITIE,MDI....*&%^&^% another guy got a call fromXLRI :drinking:and a girl got already selected in LBSIM.):lookround:.ooffff: I have to fight ppl with strong shields....

Seniors could you please share some info on the fee structure for GIM,

Th e website says its around 6 lakh for 2 yrs, but someone on pagalguy posted it to be above 8 lak for 2 yrs.

Senios, could you pls clear the doubt & pls be prompt in your response
