So roughly how many people were there?
In 2nd slot, I must say more or less around 35-40.
All of us first gathered on the 1st floor in the hall named 'Foyer' .. Then the official came, he first called out a few names (around 14-15) and asked them to move to the Auditorium. Then he called next set of students (same nos.) and asked them to be seated in there and the remaining students(12 of us) he asked them to move downstairs to the conference room..
@lookforward thats what I call an interview man..you were chilled out, din't give up,those are the traits they look for....buddy,you really stand a chance..All the best..:)
I have my interview scheduled for the 1st in new delhi, 8:30 am slot.. Is it possible for me to re-schedule it to 12:30 slot on the same day. I have already dropped in a mail to the admission mail-id, but if there is no response what should be the next course of action? I tried calling but to no avail, and it says on the website that Thursdays are office-off days. Please guide... URGENT!

Hi...I am sharing my complete GD PI Experience....Please tell me how it went...and what are my chances.
Xat percentile - 86.XX
only 6 people turned up...GD was between 5 people.....one guy came very late.
GD Topic - Should FB be banned in academic institutes..took moderate stand....and spoke like 5-6 times in around 10 min....every1 was repeating the same points...as there wasnt much to discuss in the topic.......
was called for PI
Panel consisted of 3 members
Left(L), Right(R), Middle(M)....all very friendly
I entered
R:give me your certis(was busy with certis thru out)
L: so what should we ask you.?
Me: whatever you feel like sir
M: by now you must be knowing all the questions.
Me:why?
M: pagalguy and other sites...u must be knowing what we ask.
ME: oh yes i have read a few posts.
M:so what do they say about us.
ME:there isnt much written about this centre but there were a few posts about other centres.
M:what are they saying
ME:a few people shared their experiences, sm1 was asked if he wanted to join GIM because of GOA
L: (smling )2 years of vacations they want.
ME:sir i dont think any1 would join a B School just because its in goa, there are a lot of other considerations aswell.
L:what do you expect?
MEfumbled)i expect that the insti should be able to help me enhance my skills
L: what else?
ME: (fumbled )i would want to be industry ready...
L:what else?
ME:Faculty
L:what else
me:Curriculum
L:whatelse?
(lol)
Me: thats it sir.
L:bus thats all in 2 years.
ME: curriculum is there ...what all other things i epect i have llisted sir.
M: okay if i ask your friends about you.....what will they tell me.
ME:they will tell you about my interpersonal skills and soft skills...i get along with people nicely....i am good at convincing, articulating and negotiating.
M:why?
ME: because its what they think of me
M:why
ME:told
M: :tell me an example when u were in crisis and you dealt with it using your interpersonal skills.
ME: ........................told
L showed my file to R for some reason.........for all others only 1 checked the file...good...bad i dunnow
M:you spoke of team spirit and ethics.what do you mean by these.
ME:understanding your team mates strengths and weaknesses...and covering them......and nott making it felt like a favor.
M:if you and me are working together...but we are not a team.
MEfumbled)then its about understanding each other..and helping towards the common pursuit.
L:you have filled both Pgdm and Health care Mgmt...why
ME: Medical tourism in India is booming. people from all over the globe come to india....i have a famous hospital near my place....and i see a lot of international patients..medical industry in india has a lot of scope
so i filled pgdm out of interest and HCM because of its scope.
L:you are a Computer Science Engineer ...when M asked you what would your friends say abt u..u spoke of interpersonal skills....why didnt you say computer skills
ME: smiling.....sir asked me what my friends would say...in my friend circle we dont generally discuss such things.had he asked me what my teachers would say..i would have said that.
L : you passedin 2012 right...
ME: yes.
L:so what were you doing all this while
ME:I am placed with XXXX ...its the Xth largest IT company in the world(doesnt have much presence in India so had to mention) and am awaiting my DOJ..and am now working with YYYY
L to M "any other questions"
M: what are the other calls you have
ME: (fumbled)none sir...my cat result wasnt very good...i have SIOM,SSBM and other Symbi colleges but now i feel i should continue with my job rather than going for these.
R:What will be your preference if you get HCM at GIM and other streams at Symbi college
ME: sir i havent appeared for any other interview..I had my project closing when SIOM interview was scheduled and couldn get an off..
..thhis is my first MBA interview.i filled in those forms to assure myself an admission...because XXXX wasnt issuing me a Date of joining and i had no other options

Me- No sir i'm just being optimistic and there is no harm in dreaming.

M- It ll hurt more if dont get into the college.
Me- i know sirf but that gives me temporary happiness.

M- Ok According to u education should be learner based or learning based?
Me- I instantly replied learner. both of them were puzzled.
They said think abt it, then they explained me what the meant
I replied it should be learning based as most of the learners dont even know what they want to learn

M- U are changing ur answer in 5 mins.So u are in the habit of replying without thinking
Me- Sir i do it at times and i know its bad for me.

And i came out of the room

GD Topic -The gruesome Delhi rape case- Was it the braveheart's fault for being out so late?

Experience -Not a fish market. Everybody spoke. I spoke 2 times. Average performance from my side. Tried to speak more, but didn't get the opportunity. Everybody had so much to tell.

PI -
Was a complete stress buster, Only HR questions. But enjoyed a nice conversation with the panelists.
2 panelists: One finance sir(P1), one operations sir(P2)

P1 asked most of the questions, P2 answered my question at the end. :)

It went somewhat like this:

P2- Please keep your Folder on the adjacent table, and make urself comfortable.

Did so...

P1- So Physics Hons...Hmmm...then Why MBA?
Me-Told..Also said something about being inspired be dad.
P1-He works for which company?
me-told
P1-How is it faring in india?
Me-not that good.
P1- why?what are the key issues being faced by the company?
Me- gyaan,gyaan....About some redundant, bad policies that are plaguing the company now

P2-Suicidal policies, i must admit.
Both seemed convinced.

P1- So what other career options you had after BSc?

Followed by a nice 2-3 minute chat on various career options after BSc, about PHd, about choices of other college friends of mine and about my college batch strength.

P1- So, What are ur favourite areas in Physics?
Me- Gravitation,Genera Properties of matter, Special Theory of Relativity...
P1- in short can u explain String Theory to me? [ Its not a part of any of the three areas i mentioned, Neither is it apart of current BSc syllabus.]
Me- No Sir, Don't know it in much detail

p1- So, u are from Science background,U r a fresher, No work ex, no commerce related background. How will u be able to do well in a B-school?Why should we take you?
P2- Yea,Convince us.

Me- tried to convince, built my answer on my extra curriculars , key skills and on my decent acads and consistence in performance throughout academic life.

P1- Ok. [probably convinced ]
P1- whats ur Cat score?
me-88.31

P1- For a student of ur background with such god academic scores don't u think It's less?U had no ambition og getting into IIMS?
Me- Yes, Sir i obviously Had. Rather, when i started preparing for CAT/XAT , i had only IIM/XLRI in my mind. But, later i didn't perform well on the day. But i believe, i dont just need an IIM tag. I want to become a good business manager, and a premiere B-school like GIM will help me do that.
P1- Yea, bad luck happens at times.
Me- Plus, CAT has become quite unpredictable these days, and a lot of luck is needed specially because of the Normalization precedure they employ these days.[then i regretted using the word "Normalization"]

P1- Whats is normalization? Why is it there?
Me- Explained...
P1- (Satisfied) Ok, gud. But why do u think level of difficulty varies from paper to paper? Why can't they make it uniform throughout all slots? Then here would be no need for normalization?
Me- Because there are too many questions to set. 60 questions per slot. Its Huge, and from a test-setters point of view it tuff to analyse which question will be tuff for the aspirant and which not.
p1- (not satisfied)I think its because Question are randomly selected, and allotted to each slot.
But, u were right about the mechanism and the need.
Me- yes Sir, yes Sir... Random selection of questions

p1-What other calls You have?
Me- TAPMI,IMT-G,BIM-T.

Pi- You have good XAT score? Why not XL, or XIMB?
Me- Sir because i failed to meet one of the sectional cut offs.
P1- Which one?
Me- English.

P1-(to P2)You have anything to ask?
P2- No.

P1- Ok,So do u have any quesions for us?
ME- Yes Sir. I have read about some use of simulation games to teach at GIM. I am very intereste in it, Can u please explain the use of such games.

P2- explained. Any other questions?

Me- NO,Sir

P2 n P1- Thank you

Me- Thank You.

So, what do u think? What are my chances of converting?

Any other interesting thing - Yes, he conference room where we had our GD was cool. Unlike, other b-school interviews where we are provided only some chairs. Here, we had an actual round table conference kinda experience during the GD.With notepads, pencils, mineral water bottles allotted to each GD participant.

Is anyone attending GDPI in Hyderabad on 1st March???

Sep CMAT score - 243 (rank - 936)
10th - 82.67
12th - 86.67
Grads - 67.6 (BE E&TC;, University of Pune)
Work-Ex - 14 months in IT company ( Resigned in Oct '12)
Batch of Interview - 26/02/2013 1.30 pm, BKC, Trade Center, Mumbai

I live in Pune so left Pune at 8.30 am and reached Bandra, Mumbai at 12.30 pm. Travelled to the Trade Center by city bus. One of the posh centers in the city I would say. Ambience of the place was good which I think is a important helping factor in tense situations like GD/PI

Panelists :
P1 - aged professor
P2 - young professor

Around 10-12 people where waiting in the conference room. At around 1.45 pm, two professors, P1 & P2, entered the room and introduced themselves (I don't remember their names now ). At around 2 pm we were taken to another conference room where proper arrangements were made for the GD session.

Once we entered the battlefield (GD conference room), P1 called out the names of people serially and we had to sit in the same serial fashion. There were total 11 people (10 men and 1 woman). I was number 5. A Notepad and pencil were kept on the desk.

GD Topic - Your realistic vision/view of Indian industry in 2025

Experience - We got one minute to think. Every one had to give their view (introduction) on the topic in the same serial fashion. There was no time limit so few people kept on talking until P1 cut them. I presented my view in about 1 min and talked about history of Indian economy, economic reforms, lack of labour skills and compared with China.
After every one gave their view on the topic, P1 gave a green signal to start the GD. It turned into fish market in 2 min. But 2-3 people dominated the GD for most of the time. Some people were talking about benefits of NREGA, etc which I thought were totally irrelevant to the topic. I didn't speak a word in these 10 mins and was only noting down the points in my Notepad.
At the very end every one had to give a conclusion. Here I talked about everything which I had noted down.

After the GD we were provided with page to write an essay on the same GD topic. 5 min were given but I think 5 min to write an essay of 250-300 words was less. I could not complete the essay properly. The GD+essay session ended at around 2.25 pm.

We again went to the waiting room. We had to go for the PI according to our serial number. My turn came around at 3.15 pm.

PI Experience -

P1 - Are you tired?

Me - No sir.

P2 - Kiran you didn't speak much in GD?

Me - Yes sir, actually its one of my weaknesses and I need to work on it. I totally understand the importance of it. I can place valid opinions but I am a soft-speaker.

P1 - (with a devil smile)Soft-Speaker?

Me - Yes sir means I cannot be aggressive on someone.

P2 - No worry, I give you another chance. Place your views/vision of Indian industry in 2025.

Me - (I thought to elongate my answer a bit so started with population and literacy)

P2 - Come to the point. Give me your views.

Me - (I told him on whatever i had said in the introduction about infrastructure and manufacturing sector)

P2 - In GD you said about aviation. Do you need them?

Me - Sir today, India imports a lot of aircraft equipments from European union. I think we should not be more dependent on others. (I also told him about the losses our airlines have)
(Then P2 started giving me gyaan about Airbus and Boeing. I kept on saying - yes right. He kept on telling about these things for around 2 minutes. But seriously he had a very good knowledge)

P2 - In GD, you also talked about the power industry.

Me - Yes sir that's also one of the sectors where we need to improve.

P2 - (shocked) What? you mean to say there are no indian power industries?

Me - Sir means there are industries like reliance and all but still they are also dependent on other countries for technology and all. We need some good reforms.

P2 - What reforms will you make?

Me - (I told him that a lot depends on technology. And also talked about the Arvind Kejriwal expose on Delhi CM, corruption, etc. I told him about need for technology wherein we have to invest less but the MW generation should be high. I talked about Thermal and Nuclear powers)

P2 - So which is good according to you?

Me - Sorry sir I have no idea about it. My point was we need to be more independent in our Industry requirements.

P2 - (devil smile) Is it possible for any country not to depend on other countries?

Me - I will not say that a country can be completely independent but looking at the labour force which India has, we only need to give them a good platform and provide specific skills which can help us to prosper in every sector.

(P2 smiles and points to P1 for further questions)
(I thought grilling on power and aviation was over but "picture abhi baaki tha")

P1 - Do you know which state in India produces more electricity than it is required for them?

Me - Sir must be Gujarat because i heard Mr Modi in one of his speeches talking about this.
(Both P1 and P2 look at each other and share a Devils smile. I felt as if I was trolled)

Me - Sir I know few projects in Maharashtra like kyona and all but not aware of any other states.

P1 - Have you heard about Chhatisgarh?

Me - Ohh its chattisgarh

(P2 chips in and gives gyaan about thermal projects in Chhatisgarh)

Me - acha, yes its one of the fastest developing states.

P1 - What is Technology management according to you?

Me - (I gave example about Apple and Steve Jobs and explained. Told them this is how I will relate my understanding about Technology management)

P1 - (smiles) Good

P1 - So why do you want to do MBA?

Me - (told about the business planning with my friend in electronics sector as I have done my BE in E&TC;)

P1 - Tell me something about your extra curricular activities.

Me - (Told about the Sports and scholarships in school and National level robotic events in college)

P2 - (Smiling)Are you hardworking?

Me - Yes Sir I am

P2 - (again smiling) I don't think so

Me - (Smiling) Sir, but why?

P2 - Are you disciplined?

Me - Yes sir I am disciplined
(P1 cuts in)

P1 - Will you remain disciplined after coming to Goa?

Me - sir, Obviously

P1 - Obviously?? Do you know what is Goa known for?

Me - Sir, it's a tourism place know for its beaches. I have my ancestral links to Goa. I visit often.
(Then I told them more about my family history and how i ended up in Pune)

P1- (Smiling)So we are done with you. Thank you

P2 - (Smiling)Thank you

Me - Yes sir thank you very much

---------x--------------x--------------x---------------x--------------x-------------x------------x---------

This was my fourth Interview this season. Panelists where chill, infact P2 was smiling the whole time. They grilled me a lot on Power and Aviation part, but now its all "Bhagwan ke Bharose"

Suggestions : They just look at your thought process. Be at your best and don't try too hard to think if you don't know the answer or fact. You can tell them that you don't know.

All the Best!!!

(I already concluded earlier that it wasnt on the basis of alphabetical order) Both : No.Me: I want to give one more shot sir.R: okay, total 3 chances for you. one already exhausted 2 more left.Me: Based on our XAT-CMAT score normalized on the same scale. Both : No. last chance.Me: Based on the work-ex., sir? Both: No. Now we have you ask you questions.. R: Tell us about urself.Me: Told.R: What is success according to u.Me: Gave some gyaan.R: Started a discussion on whether should students go to kota for IIT/AIEEE prepn or not. He said students who think they are not capable shouldn't go to Kota. I differed on his views.R: what do you think that Private companies are now playing a major role and Govt is not doing much.Me: Told him that's not the case. Its the Govt who designs and frames the Policies to which the corporate companies adheres to. Told him about PPP model. Also told about Bihar which tops the Growth rate amongst major states and where there services sector that contributes more to the GDP and not private companies.R: Asked about my CGPA, is that common over there or were you rank holder?Me: Told.Other prof: What other calls do you have?Me: Told.Other: Be truthful and tell us if you convert both, which one will you go for?Me: Told would go for GIM.R: Asked me about XAT %ile, CMAT score, CAT %ile.Me: Told.R: Thank you Abhishek and shook hands.Me: Thank you sir.P.S. : After I came out and was travelling in metro, I pondered over that pattern on which students were called and finally came up with a conclusion : We Engineers were called in the last.. [Before me were 3 techie and after me was a final year Mech. Engineering student]

No..It wasn't verified for any1..

I had some time on my hands and ever since my GIM interview , I still havent stopped smiling. Warning :- I believe mine was one of the very few interviews which followed this particular pattern so please dont take it as indicative of all the interviews conducted by GIM

GD Topic - What is your realistic view/vision of India in 2025 -2026.
Before we started out the moderator informed we would have around 20 seconds to think of points ,20 seconds each to state our introductory points, 10 minutes of discussion and again 20 seconds each to conclude and 5 minutes to write an essay summing up our own points with 4 paragraphs

Experience - (10 members) 20 seconds for me was not enough to think of anything substantial
.Stated my initial points and managed to make 2 points in the discussion not sure if they were that relevant . The GD consisted of barely 10 minutes and was all over the place . It was very hurried. And there was no time given for concluding as previously stated. Essay writing was a lesson in time management. Managed to finish it. But quite a few people got cutoff in the middle of writing
PI -
I was last but one to go in so it was a bit of a wait. There I was mentally steeling myself up with replies to questions such as "Why MBA" and "Why GIM" . Finally my turn came and i walked in

P1 asked me for my certificates. He went through them and saw my 12th marks
P1 : 100 in maths . You must be very good
Me : Blabbered something about being rusty since I havent had a chance to use most of it in real life
P2: What all other calls do you have
Noted them down
P2: Who was your favorite teacher and why?
Me: Answered

P2 (very serious look on his face) : What is your opinion about lesbian marriages.
Before I go on , I have to say , the other girls in my batch were also asked questions on spirituality and marriage , so I wasnt totally mentally unprepared. And I wont state my answers since they are personal opinions .

Me (amused /perplexed look) : Answered
P2 :- Live in relationships or Marriage
P2:- Why do you think people marry
P2:- What do you look for in a person you will marry
Me: I answered I would have a certain set of criteria and said i would prefer that the guy was better than me in certain aspects
Here P1 chipped in
P1:- What if the guy was thinking along the same lines, then no one in society would ever get married
Me:- But sir, I might be having a different set of criteria different from the guy's
Not quite sure if he was convinced
P2:- Why are you a good person to marry.
P2:- Do you think the government should legalize live-in relationships
P1: What do you remember about 12th maths
Me : Probability (it was the only thing i could remember)
P1: Asked me a question of probability
Me : Answered wrong . My mental state was on the edge of ROFLing..far away from maths.
P1: Explained the answer and I nodded
P1: Asked me two more basic questions on maths. Very easy ones
Me : Answered
P2: You may go now

I got up thanked them and was standing near the door cos the door was camouflaged into the wall .
P2: How was the interview.
Me: It was okaaaay.
Finally located the door and got out. To be honest, I had great fun answering all the questions. It was a very welcome change from all the interviews I had gone through. But on a more serious note, these are my possible deductions :-
1) My GD was so bad they eliminated me back then
2) Based on my calls they decided that I wouldnt be choosing GIM (though I would very much want to join if selected)
3) It was a modified form of stress interview though I didnt find it stressful.

Not quite sure how helpful this will be ,but I just wanted to get it out of my head and I find writing very relaxing

Thanks again to GIM (no sarcasm here) , it was definitely a refreshing change and even if I dont get selected , I would like to thank the panelists and the other people in my group for giving me an opportunity to relax and laugh so much (I really did have a good time talking to them unlike in other places where you would have a bunch of stressed out nervous people)

Batch of Interview - 27th Morning at Brainstorm consultancy , Bangalore
GD Topic - The Delhi rape victim " the braveheart was it wrong on her part to have stayed out so late in the night " or something like that .

Experience -

GD was very organized. We were a group of 9 ppl and everyone of us were given 15 second opening statement/ introduction. After that 5 minutes of discussion. Since the topic is fairly favoring one view, all of us were unequivocal about the opinions which we expressed. This was followed by conclusion statement by each one of us. Everyone were given 15 seconds to make the conclusion.

Positives of the GD: Everyone got a chance to speak.
the discussion was very calm and not heated.

Negatives: It was an unequivocal topic and hence there was no room for much arguments or expression of original opinions after analyzing the topic.

PI - I was the last guy in my panel to get interviewed. After what seemed like an eternity ( around 3 hours since the completion of GD ) i was called inside. The 2 prof asked me to take my seat. I was asked to hand over my file to one of them. Now P2( a charming 30 plus or minus year old gentleman ) told me " we are tired interviewing ppl, why don't you ask us questions and we will answer. I was speechless . Then P1 ( a 35 something year old gentleman ) asked me my XAT score and i said i applied via CMAT. He asked me why and i said i screwed up my XAT. He then asked me " Marks are not a measure of intelligence are they ? " . I replied politely that its not the only criteria. Then P1 said " your CMAT score is 264 , we don't know how to judge that score alongside XAT scores ( He was starting to turn on the heat , which became evident to me ). I replied politely that my rank is 298 AIR and its a good score. He then tried to provoke me saying " CMAT is an exam where ppl with low competence appear and you have simply been good among the worst ppl ". I felt a little irritated but i didn't show it . Then P2 said " According to you marks don't reflect intelligence , do they ". I again replied, " No i meant its not only criteria". P1 now got agitated and asked " Do you know John Nash "?
Me:I dont know.
P1: He was linked with game theory ( Check Wiki guys πŸ˜ƒ )
Me: I said ok.
P1 : He scored really high in exams and yet had great IQ.
Me : Ok sir.
P2: So you don't believe marks reflect intelligence , so are the universities and colleges jokers to conduct exams ?
Me : I didnt mean that sir.
P1: Prove your intelligence.
ME: What ? how do you want me to prove it ? Ask me something ?
P2: We will give you one chance to prove your intelligence. Prove yourself.
ME: Its really abstract. Shall i present a case study?
P2: Where is the case yaar ( Looking around for a briefcase )
ME ( partly amused and yet irritated) : OK , i shall prove with an example and started to rant about some stock market BS .
P2( getting irritated ) : We know this already. We want you to prove your intelligence.
Me: Ok sir i shall tell you an example from my coll days ( strted narrating )
P2: ( After a minute or so , he stopped pretending to listen ) Hey you are narrating some story when i ask you to prove your intelligence.
P1:Ok tell me why we shud select you ?
Me : ( puzzled and fumbled)
P1: let me rephrase it, tell me 2 reasons which can get you rejected .
Me : ( gave them the first counter punch). Maybe since i applied via CMAT and you don't deem it as competent enough .
P2 and P1 ( a little shaken ) : Ok tell me some personality traits of yours which can get you rejected ?
Me : I m confident about myself. If i don't fit in your system , it doesnt mean its something abt my personality .
P2: ( appeared again a little shaken ) : No you have misunderstood the qn , we asked you which traits of yours can get you rejected.
Me: I honestly can't think of any such thing and i am confident of myself.

P2: Ok so why are you wearing an ear stud?
Me: Its supposedly good for the nerves ( read somewhere on the net )

P2 now started joking : It has seriously affected your brains.
then he started saying something to P1 in hindi .

Me : Sir , if you don't mind pls talk in English , i m not conversant in Hindi.

P1 and P2 ( both shaken now ) : Then the conversation somehow got drifted to my reactions.
P2 : Yes i will speak in english.
Somehow the conversation got drifted to my reactions and they asked me if i have temper issues . I said no.

P2:Tell me your strengths and Weakness. I want you to do a SWOT Analysis.
Me : told my strengths n weakness and how i overcome them.
P2: So what is the opportunities for you in future?
Me : going forward , i shud look at this interview experience as a learning curve and not take it personally.
P2( Impressed by the answer ): Excellent. any qns you have ? or anything you want to say ?
Me: Nothing
P2 : you can leave now.
Me : Thank you ( with a smile ) and left.

Defintely i was grilled. It was more like a stress interview and lasted around 15-20 min. So pretty much they were provoking me , but in the end it ended well. Maybe i was a little aggressive too. Any comments PUYS ?? ( your feedback is welcome πŸ˜ƒ πŸ˜ƒ )

Any other interesting thing -

1) they noted down what calls i had and they made me reveal the priority. I replied honestly that GIM is not my first pref.
2) Perhaps GIM can afford a much better venue for the interview than this place. The less said about it the better.

Overall its a good learning experience and i am happy for it πŸ˜ƒ No harsh feelings :)
