CFA Level 1 June-2010

hi,

I have bachelors degree from india as BBA.

And I m enrolling for CFA USA june 2010.

I have a question does they need credit hours ar any evaluation of degree for entering the program.

You can direclty enroll for the CFA exams there is no requirement as such.

Right now the Laxmi xerox centre gives 5 books for the CFA L1 2010 exams. But I was being informed to collect 1 book + CD's for L1 exams after 15th Dec '09. He gave me a coupon sort of thing for this.
If the coupon is misplaced he charges 300/- for 1 book + CD's.

What are you guys doing?, Registering first or started studying from other materials first?

why r people so keen on studying schweser notes?
isn't it better tht u study the curriculam thouroughly tht is sent by the CFA ppl..tht in itself would take a hugh amount of time ..to study if u on top of tht add schweser notes n additional stuff you would have to skip some stuff frm the prescribed curriculam would tht be advisable?

I am from Mumbai taken test center as kathmandu -Nepal.
Wanna know how many else are from Mumbai with the same test center.
We could form a group together and make the arrangements accordinlgy.
This would be feasible as well as we ll get to know others.

The same can be done for other test centers.

Wat say...

If not coaching, try buying the Schweser Video Series.. It's worth the money.. Best substitute to attending the expensive coaching classes, which you still could, if you are insistent..

You have a point, but the CFAI material is very vast and is not the best from an exam point of view..
If you want to learn the concepts in depth, CFAI material is the best.. If you are short on time and want to cover everything, try Schweser..

A much better solution to all this would be, finish your Schweser notes and then go back to your CFAI material and make sure you even learn those tiny bits left out by Schweser..

5 books? I got books for Dec 09 L1 exams from him.. Got 5 books for the funda stuff and 2 practice exam books... Also, he gives a QBank Pro CD (which is brilliant)... Try using the QBank while you are learning your funda.. It helps in applying your learning to exam problems...

am in delhi, which are the good coaching centers. I have heard about Finguru. Any idea how is it ?

There is no particular order that you need to follow. Starting with the 2nd/3rd/4th/5th book will depend on your background. To play safe, start with the SS2 (1st book), then 2nd book and so on.. You can come back to Ethics (which is very important, but is all theory) after you finish the rest, but again, it's your call in the end.

You could get it a cheaper rate at Laxmi Copy Centre, Mumbai (yes, the same guy who sells the Schweser notes). If you want to get the original stuff, you could always order it online on Schweser's site.. Of course, there is no difference between both of them.. I think Laxmi Copy Centre charges about a 1000 bucks for a home-delivered set of the 16-CD video series (you also get two books).. It's worth every penny.

For all those who are yet to get the TI BAII Plus calculator, my advice is the get TI BAII Plus Professional.. I have used both of them, and personally the TI BAII Plus Professional rocks! The keys are a lot softer and easy-to-use unlike the normal TI BAII Plus. Also, there are some calculations (though not too significant) which cannot be done on the normal TI BAII Plus.

I am confused now.I was planning to get a tI ba11 plus ..anyways where can i get it in delhi and the cost.can I get it imported from uk also.there is this oxford co.(dont know the exact name) there and is also listed on the cfa site.

Yes,,, i would also agree on that part.

Rather than buyying teh BA II plus now and again going for the BA professional later buy the Professional one time....

However, in the CFA notes I found reference for some other types of calculators provided by HCL/HP ...i m not sure...
You can find about these in Vol 1 - Quantitative analysis section - basic concepts topic.

i am from delhi, completed b.com-h from DU,09
and given five ncfm exams
and preparing for cfa level 1, 2010
before this , i was considering some job offers like in edelweiss and smc global
but what i found there was totally unimaginable.
i couldn't discuss it here
now i am fully prepared to sit in the exam .
first of all, i am considering to have a studygroup in delhi.
all those guys, who live in delhi. can they plz tell me abt their respective groups, how can i join them?
