1) we didn't need recommendation letter for IIM-I
2) As for K GD-PI, I think there is a separate thread and you would be better served with regard to answers on that thread. But for interviews in general there is always the why MBA question. For Indore preparing for questions on acads is quite important, and then there is current affairs, economic news and in your case work-experience. what have you done? what have you learnt? and so on...
3) You must be having some hobbies and I don't think it should matter very much but you better have a good reason for not having any extra-currics.
4) don't start reading novels now but do try to read something which could be useful to mention in the interview if you have the inclination to talk about books.
The candidate's aim in the interview should be to show the interviewers that there is potential to be a good manager(I don't fully agree with my own statement but that is the shortest meaningful answer I could come up with while typing this sentence).
While what exactly a good manager is : I am not very sure I would want to explore that on this thread, so I stop here before others get on my throat.

IT all depends on how you do the interview, dude. While I would be inclined to think yours is a not-so-common profile I think you should try to leverage the situation to your advantage and your profile might make things a wee bit easier but I am not all the sure that if the wee bit is worth considering.
moral of the story: prepare well and if you do the interview well, you will get selected no matter what your profile*
*There are always exceptions but you would be better off not concentrating on the rarities.

man i think i would be the best person to help you out in this matter...i had absolutely ZERO EXRACURRICS...went in the interview with only marksheets...76% in engineering...80 odd in 10th and 12th...99.41 in CAT...just be thorough with whatever you have written in your resume...no fenkana...think atleast 100 times what you have written in your IIMI form before writing it...be genuine in what you write in the form and what you say in the inteview...i had read quite a few novels before i came here...may be in hundreds...but they did not ask about them...my suggestion is read some 4-5 novels before the interview...tell them as your favourite novels...some novels like paulo coehlo...
finally nothing matters more than being genuine...present what you are in front of them...and be confident of what you say...i can understand what you are thinking...i am giving all gyaan...thet's what i thought...but believe me...be yourself in the interview...your percentile is good enough to get you through unless you do commit some crap...

* one doesn't really see faculty with that high profile in L& I's website as a,b or C. Does it affect the knid of consultancy work this profs get & kind of contacts they have in industry. How does it affect students?
* do many people go for PHD directly after PGP from I. In A thr r quite few people of this genre.

anshul IIM I is fastest growing institute...commenting beyond this will lead to comparison between the institutes..
regarding batch size according to ET it would be 195 which is still less then most of the institutes and yes you are right small batch size do help lot in placements...
IIMI has very good industry linkage and even faculty has very good repo in the industry....
FPM prog started last year only...so till now ppl don't go for phd after PGP...

hey puys..congratulations on getting the call frm I & other IIMs...
it's a big opportunity for all of u so give it ur best shot...there's still some time for the intrvws ( atleast a month i guess ) , so i'll suggest get goin immediately..dont try to do drastic things..in the sense that u strt developing a hobby or strt reading novels/books or join NGOs etc...
instead try to get the basic things right..prepare well for ur personal q's (challenges,strengths,weakness,objectives,reasons for a MBA,ur learnings frm work ex or other experiences)...u'll need to introspect a bit & believe me clarity in personal q's will help u even aftr coming to an IIM...apart frm these lots of gyan abt case studies,gk etc has already been splashed here...so no point repeating...but do the basic things well...

i dont wanna compare placements of any 2 instittues as that is something that is tricky and can lead to lot of mud slinging.
The faculty at I MAY not seem to be high profile cause ours is a newer institute and its still growing. Just as children grows faster than teens. We are also growing faster than anyone else around us. Also the nature of consultancy projects the faculty get are very good (we hear a few of the stories in class sometimes) bu u wont be directly involved in any of those. At best u learn from the faculty as every project they take improves their understanding of industyr and business.
People going to PhD is something we dont know abt as till last year they wud have t do it outside of IIM Indore. We just started our Fellowiship program in 2006. At the same time, dont worry its something that doesnt affect ur 2 years here.
the batch size will be atleast 180 bu cant comment with assurance on the increase.
We have many IITs in the IIMs and u must leverage ur skills and little workexperinec u have to ensure that u get into I. Also read up everything abt MP, Indore, etc. as u are bound to be asked questions on all this

Weightage for work ex or any other factor depends upon the batch profile an institute is looking for, i got to know(from pg only 😃 ) that this year while issuing calls candidates with good amount of work ex are prefered...while our batch mostly consists of freshers or people around one year of work ex. our senior batch is work-ex heavy batch...so it depends on profile they wanted in batch
One small question. Why is that the profile they r luking for keeps on changing year after year? Also, is it the case that when they r lukin for freshers they apply cutoffs for work-ex or simply that they give more weightage to CAT scores as CAT is traditionally cracked by freshers (exceptions r always der). Was it some deliberate attempt from their side to take freshers or it just happened that more freshers cracked CAT that year.
Also advise me how to prep for acad related PI questions. My major was Comp Sci. Can u provide me link for some gud resources.

Form, as said by Kool, is really comprehensive...they will try to know you almost inside out through the form...so please start thinking about the questions like Why MBA and Why Management(yeah both are different things),

I feel a little silly to ask you this , but I am asking this aas it would help me in forming my own answer, see I am pursuing bachelors course from ISI and people from my college end up doing some kind of modeling jobs as an analyst what exactly i will be ending up say if i am able to convert my call at IIM Indore,basically what i am asking you is what exactly is management?...you may wonder if i don't what is management then why did i bother taking cat?...my reasons are like 1> i have heard the growth in analyst sector is lesser than in management
2>if i join PGP course at IIM Indore then as the pedagogy is based on the case studies my understability of the market will drastically i mprove as the industry exposure at my college is absolute zero percent
3> there is social sensitivity involved in the job of a manager, which is inherently absent in the kind of jobs that flock our campus
4> I have fascination for the word investment banker...peple from my place donot get job as an investment banker...but they do from iims ..what exactly is an investment banker..and how does iims course facilitates athe birth of investment banker?

See to ur question of what is management.. All i can say is management programs teach us/ prepare us to manage anything and everything. So it could be something as small as an event or project to an entire MNC on a global level. Ofcourse like any education u receive you learn more when u hit the field and start working than u do in classrooms.
Case study methods at the IIMs and other Bschools do not increase ur exposure to industry. They however help u in understanding the application of concepts that u read in ur textbooks, reference books. Also not all case studies are actual, many are purely hypothetical that are designed to suit the need of the class and topic at hand.
If u want to know about Investment banking as a career then start from Any place like Wikipedia and work your way into stuff. there are millions of pages about investment banking.
As for searching for the Why MBA and Why management differences ill give u an illustration.
Y MBA is asked to a student to know what he seeks from his education at a Bschool and how he plans to use that in his career or make a career out of it and in which field.
Why Management basically looks at what interests you in management of organisations and is especilaly asked to those who are from a different background like CAs, Doctors, Engineers esp with work ex, Science graduates.
So u need to have answers to both and its acceptable if the answers link into each other

Ok From ur posts it seems that u r interested in an IIT ---> IIM ----> Harvard sorta profile.
I believe taht a lot of my batchmates have research interests as of now and some will take it up as and when they have the time and the right subject.
If an offshore PHd is what interests you then you will get all teh support you want from start at the IIMs.
All IIMs have professors heading various departments and fields. So depending on your interests you can always contact them and start by assisting them in their papers and probably move onto writing some of your own. However I dont think there is a structured system for this. Its purely between the faculty and the student to decide and collaborate for research. The institute i am sure has no problems with any of it.

My personal 2 pence.
I feel that the advantages of Brand name are present in both, however on a global scale I guess NUS has more visibility.. at the same time an IIM is has a lot lower investment. Plus if you plan to settle in India then it is the best to have an IIM tag attached to yourself.
Also for now give the GD PI your best shot and hope for the best so that u get the chance to make a choice between final admits to IIM I and NUS. Till then all the best
