We dont have that information. You ll be getting the call letters very soon. If you still have any queries, call up admissions office (no. is in CAT brochure) and tell them about your problem.

Last year IIMI gd/pi took place from Feb to March. I gave mine in Bangalore and people had their gd/pi from feb-beginning to March end.

About taking leave from work, it depends on you whether you are comfortable in taking gd/pi or not. I personally feel if you are preparing regularly, that is, your work is allowing you to squeeze 2-3 hours daily to prepare, then you can do away with just 2-3 holidays before the interview. But there are many of my batchmates who did take 10-15 holidays before the interviews.

All the best.

Hi,
I have a call from IIM I and would like to know of anyone who is from Mech Engg. backgrd and interviewed at IIM I. I have a total exp of 30 months in IT(as SE and BA). But after reading different threads here I get feeling that Acads do form a very important part of any interview at I. So would like to get a better insight from a person who is from a similar backgrd.

And what about Engg Maths ? Does the interview have any mathematical component. If yes what kind of questions are in offing as far as Math is concerned. It would be great of I can get contact details of anyone from Mech bachgrd presently at IIM I.
Thanking in anticipation.

check ur inbox in PG...contact on the mail id for any queries abt mech engr intrvws....
I guess we shud arrange for one guy of each backgrnd to write his exp...
hmm..let's see if we can work tht out...but will suggest u to visit the thread on last yrs intrvw also...

Respected seniors and my buddies, while the time is slipping away continuously I am continuously stuck at the mother of all questions? Why IIMs ,Why MBA & Why management?, though I haven't figured out any of these answers but i began to reckon that the conditional questions can be answered easily and the frustation is mounting.Adding to my woes is this fact that I found no one is seeming to discuss this ubiquitious question...please seniors enlighten me to delve deep inside is getting tougher ... or please suggest my book, an article or something that would help me undrstanding why i want to do first of all management itself?...
But nevertheless, I try again and state them,..., please help me in t6his process
1>The most of honest of reasons,is that I am not happy with my current prospect so i opted for cat,..., (oops! I donot think I can state that in an interview)
2>I feel that I am limited in my understanding of business world and doing an MBA would help me understanding the same.
3>I love to take initiatives on my own and doing an MBA would put me in right soes to take initiative

go thru previous posts in the thread...they should help you...

to help you out a bit...think for the reasons why you are not happy with your current work...what if you don't find MBA too not interesting???what can management and MBA offer you???what kind of work???

if you like taking initiatives do you have some examples to cite???

ALOK.

Try thinking what you want to be, where you want to see yourself after say 10-15 years.
And then, see where MBA fits in, how it ll help you to get closer to your career goal.

Few things that an MBA degree provides.
- Knowledge and skills required to be a good manager. What things were learnt by great entrepreuners like NRN, Dhirubhai to build business giants in a long time, MBA teaches those skills and the right strategies in the span of 2 years.
- It provides a platform with a plethora of career options to choose one of your choice and take a headstart on the path to your goal/aim.
- There is a ceiling till where you can reach in your current career with your current qualifications. MBA increases the level of that ceiling. The ceiling then obviously depends on your incapabilities.

This question is very important and it strikes almost each and every MBA aspirant. Off the cuff, money is usually the foremost reason to do MBA but MBA is more than that. Do a little introspection, it ll help not only for answers to these questions but also if MBA ll actually help you or not. There are people who realize while/after doing MBA that this wasnt their cup of tea. I am sure you dont want to be one of them.

Dont worry if you dont get an answer easily. No need to get frustrated. The better it is for your own good, the more you think about this very question.

Adios n all the best.

hey guys,
first of all thanks for this thread. i have calls form C, I and K. my profile -

10th - 83% (CBSE)
12th - 89.4%(CBSE)
Electrical & Electronics engineering - 74.4%(Anna University)

CAT -
di-94.52
quant-97.15
verbal-98.05

13 months with Infosys, working in a production support project. shifting to relativity technologies(a much smaller company) now, as a product support engineer(role with more responsibilities).

1. to what extent does the brand name of your company matter? will my shift to a lesser known company be seen as a disadvantage?
2. is there someone here from anna university who can let me know if my acads in coll will be a prob?
3. approximately how many interviews are conducted in one day, by iimi?

HI Seniors,

I have some doubts:

1 I am a comp sc engineer with 2 years in Infy, now to show that eng. and then Infy was a thought decision, i was planning to say that want to be an enterprenuer in Technology field, but then i am afraid for questions that may come on it, hw u plan to start?? what u plan to start??? any suggestions on long term plan in keeping with my back ground ??: .

2 do we need to be specific in the specialization that i want to do my MBA in??? can we just say still not decided on it??
I found this on IIM INDORE site"in the second year marketing, finance, strategy and international business, operations management, human resources management and information technology". any other specilisation available??? good answer for this.

thanks,
San

1) company brand name hardly matters...it's the kind of work you are doing...in fact in your case,,,you have an advantage...you have more responsibilties in the latest job...give some management perspective to your work...

3) there are 2 batches for GDPI...morning and evening...you can expect 10-12 ppl per batch...and around 3 panels per batch...that makes around 60 candidates per day per centre...

1) in the interview speak what you actually want to do...if you actually want to go for entrepeneurship,,,have a clear cut agenda...you must know how you intend to go about it...or else stick to managerial job answer...

2)no you don't need to be specific in the specialization...you can talk about about specialization only is you have in depth knowledge about the specialization you want to do...generally ppl here come with an open mind and decide specialization only after having a feel of the courses in first year...

2) Usually acads aren't much of a problem. But u should be able to justify what u got less if your marks are less according to anna university.

Anyway, I have pm'ed u email address of my batchmate who is from anna univ. and has 22 months work-ex in Infy.

Ans) Be prepared with answers on.. what sorta business do u want it to be.. as in BPO, Software solutions, etc. Then why ? What are the current companies in taht, the kind of competiton and market in the near future. etc.
Dont go into too much detail but make sure you are not stumped by their questions.

Ok, first of all the IIMs offer a PGD in General Management so there is no fixed specialisation. What you do have are focus areas that each students chooses for himself. You can always say tat you are undecided (works more for freshers) or that you are leaning towards one particular field but you are not sure about it.
On the other hand another approach is to decide and be prepared for a particluar focus. That way you can be a lot more confident. It doesnt matter one bit what you say when u get here as there is no one to verify/ check anything of that sort.
