MICA Aspirants with not-so-great scores - CAT or XAT score?

Hey Madhatter
Kari has answered a student's perspective quite well...now let me try and attempt to give you MICAAdmissions perspective. Having been a consultant to MICA in some projects and having been on MICA panel a few times, I can do so.

MICA is one of the instis that is fairly accommodative and sensitive to prospects and students. Even when it comes to changing the venue or date of your GD/PI, you will realise this...

Ah, I love MICA 😃 So can't help giving you all the gyan

Err then how come S. P. Jain is issuing only one form for applicants both from CAT and Xat

Thanks a lot man.. the URL is kinda strange naa? I was googling around for 5 mins and still I dint get the link I was looking for..

Anyways what is the fuss about the 23-24 marks required in VA? I think I will get around 31-33 (overall), do I have the chance for getting called?

It is clearly stated on the MICA site that they would be considering only overall percentiles and that there are no sectional cut-offs .. me too in the 33 - 35 range.. lets hope we get a call.. anyways applying through XAT also .. whichever works best

Amen!
Hey madhatter!

I do remember you from last years forums....I believe that u shud apply with last years cat score and write in this years cat reg no...so both the scores, whichever higher will be considered...

I had applied thru the Cat and the Gmat last year, but mica did not state any provision for considering both my applications like they do this year. I applied thru the gmat after i felt that i had messed up my cat enuf to risk getting a call from Mica...That is when i applied thru the Gmat. So in essence it was solely my decision to apply twice, at least in the Gmat i was sure i would get a call if i got over 600, which i eventually did.

I dont know whether i was supposed to tell the GD whether i had applied once or twice...however, i did mention it to the panel, who according to me seemed surprised as they werent aware that i had applied twice...

Why Mica has asked for different forms for different exams is a topic for which questions need to be addressed directly to the admissions council at Mica. We students can only speculate on reasons for the same...and speculations are not definitive answers, therefore i think u shud address queries regarding the same to the institute and concerned people herein....

U can however look at this way too, Mica is now letting students apply through many more routes than earlier, therefore u stand a better chance of getting a chance to come for the second round...

Kari

Thanks a ton Kari, You have definitely made one more option clearer for me. And I asked about the GD question coz I just wanted to know if it makes any sense to the panelists...
And now since i did get a call last year, atleast i can be hopeful of making it to the second round.

Any more advice from your end will be throughly appreciated. Since you went through a lot of uncertainity last year, your pointers would be helpful.

Hey Madhatter
Kari has answered a student's perspective quite well...now let me try and attempt to give you MICAAdmissions perspective. Having been a consultant to MICA in some projects and having been on MICA panel a few times, I can do so.

The reason why you need two forms for CAT and XAT is this. MICA, as an insti taking CAT scores, has to send the details of students applying thru CAT to IIMs to get your scores for them. Deadline to send these details is 15th December. In that case MICA needs time to copile data of all MICA applicants thru CAT and send it to IIMs. Your XAT admit cards may not have come in by then.

Similarly there also stated rules by two diff examing bodies. So MICA needs to do this. If you wish to apply thru CAT score this year and last year, you can fill in just one form. But for CAT and XAT, you need diff forms.

MICA is one of the instis that is fairly accommodative and sensitive to prospects and students. Even when it comes to changing the venue or date of your GD/PI, you will realise this...

Hi
I Would Like To Know What Is Micat All About?????????

Guys I was thinking about this:
MICA call the top 2000 applications that it received. So can we be hoping that we might get calls with just 85%tile or so.. (considering 30 as 85%tile)??

I asked my father to get a DD, but now I am not sure to apply or not.. I want to know if I can apply to Nirma with around 31?

Hi All,
This is the second time applying to MICA..Couldn't convert my call last year (Last year's percentiles:Overall 90.xx VA-97.5, DI-53.xx, QA-75.xx)
But this year, I am worried as my scores in QA/DI have literally plumetted..Expected scores(CL answer key) QA 4, DI 3 and VA 31..
So what do I do? Should I fill MICA through CAT, or wait for XAT??
Also, I had got 93.5 percentile in XAT last year ( Scored mailnly in VA and GK) Should I fill a form on that basis? Because this year XAT is not going to have GK Please advice ppl, really confused...

hey bertie wooster,

from what i have heard, an overall score of 38 would comfortably put you in the range of mid nineties in terms of percentiles, which should be good enough to guarantee a call. so do apply with your cat score. about xat, i can't tell you coz i never took it. so i'd rather not speculate.

all the best! hope to see you here next year.

regards,
pp

Yup, in favor of 'Mudra Institute of Communications, Ahmedabad' payable at Ahmedabad and here is how it appears on MICA website

"Applications will be available in the select branches of HDFC, IMS, SBI, Career Launcher, Career Forum & Professional Tutorials. Please send the duly filled in application form downloaded from the site with a draft for Rs. 1300/- in favour of Mudra Institute of Communications, Ahmedabad, payable at Ahmedabad, to the Admission Office, MICA, latest by 12th December, 2005 for CAT applicants and 7th January, 2006 for XAT / GMAT applicants."

Also, if you are applying with a previous year's score..send a copy of your scorecard..
Thats it..Put in the DD and send it off!
