I have 4 years of work experience as of today. Is it worth doing a full time MBA in India..???? If yes, please suggest the institutes I should try for.
Try for executive MBA after an year or so from IIMs. At ISB u can try now itself π

It purely depends upon on your interest and future plan if you want to settle outside india then you can for for GMAT and try to get into HBS and other top reputed colleges..or if you wish to be in india try for IIMA ISB GLIM SPjain n other colleges..
It completely fine that you messed up a smooth sailing chance this time. dont be disheartened coz there so many things out there to be done than an MBA right now. I would suggest that if you have filled enough coll applications you will get a good MBA school this time only. Also thinking about your 'deserving an IIM ' feel , i want to ask you if u get through a nitie or a sibm pune this time and you dnt attend it. Are sure enough that you will be able to crack GD PI round again??? think about it.
I am new to this site. So do excuse me if i am not posting my query in right thread.
As most of you know,Top B Schools these days look for diversity in their class rooms. But me,being a part of the normal Techie group dont think can bring much diversity as on an average every MBA aspirant is more or less an Engineer or has an Software Engineering Background. I need to add something more to my CV to come out of this....
Am 2yrs experienced in the Financial IT Services(Futures & Options to be more exact).
I am looking for management related experience but do not know what to do for that.(Being Software Engineer with 2yrs Exp doesnt exactlty qualify me for Managerial Post ). Nor do i know what particular field should i be trying for ( like product management, quality management etc). Could i go for career counselling to know what i am good at and what all options i have in front of me? If yes could someone suggest one in Banagalore?
P.S - Long passage but i resorted to public forums because i could not get answers from the people i know.
with love & lots of respect, Kartvin Merry Xmas to all of you out there π

i passed my B.Tech in june 2011, and till now i am sitting at home, not doing any job, I was placed in Campus at Accenture and joining hasnt come yet(will be in Jan probably)

I had scored 93.79 in cat 2010..(while was in my final engg year)....but now my overall graduation % have dropped to 49 and i don't qualify for CAT....
I want to do HR.
I am undergoing training for surveyor and loss adjuster(a type of engg. consultancy ) i can spend time till june 2014 to get into good college.i have applied for TISS ... but lets assume the worst that even trying for next 3 years i donot convert it..... so my dilemma is can ne1 suggest any degree or courses or certificate or post graduation (maybe part time) which can just help me improve my CAT eligibility thus i can apply to MHRM (iit-kh), mhrod, mdi, imi....etc by 2014
I will be quitting my job in a month's time. So Vision bhai, i could use some help here, from you as well as from others. I am a BE graduate, 2011 batch and i am working in an IT company as a Java Developer for the past 6 months. I was never interested in such a job profile. My interests have always been to be an analyst in finance or operations. So, here is the plan. I quit my company by jan 31st, prepare for GMAT and do a few courses simultaneously which can help me get a job as an analyst in any of the above mentioned sectors. The problem is i dont know what courses to go ahead with. I was planning on doing the CFA level 1 but then again i read in one of the threads that only a CFA level 1 certification wont get me a job. I will have to go for CFA level 2 as well. My plan was to score well in GMAT, work in a company for around 3 yrs (finance sector ofcourse) and go for an MBA in Finance. Now, if you will, please give me some advice as to what certifications should i go for (job as well as career development perspective) and which companies can i aim for through those certificates. Yes, i am desperate.
Hi I am from Guwahati Assam and I took my admission in AIMT Guwahati pursuing my MBA. I am so tensed because now I am realizing my mistake to have joined this institute where it lacks good faculties and also the college environment is not healthy. Faculties are below average who do not have good knowledge on their teaching subject. We also could not clear all our doubts and this has made us remain stagnant. Don't have any idea what should I do. I would never recommend AIMT to aspiring MBA students.
I have query regarding business schools.....I 1st wanted to study in a abroad country but since its so expensive i thought it better to do mba in india....But my friend completed her enginering from a college which allowed her to study 2 year in india and remaining years in USA with a assigned university....Now she is setteled in US.....
Also i recently got to know that india b schools have student exchange program where a student can go abroad and study.....But they problem is that the period is too short 2 3 months and after that a student has to come back for remaining semester and job placements.....
Can you please tell me what should i do so that i take admission here and complete my mba in usa or canada..because i always wanted to study and work there but due to my financial condiations it little difficult....
You are talking about something called twinning programs. To the best of my knowledge, very few top business schools have these programs. Also a word of caution, make sure that the program is approved. Otherwise you may face issues later.
SP Jain has a PGCIM program. You can check that out. Most other schools have exchange programs as you have rightly mentioned.
You may look at doing a Masters in Management from European business schools. Such programs are of 1 yr duration and this would save cost for you.
Also, look at Dutch universities. The tution fees and living costs are lower and you get a 1 yr job search visa post completion of the program.
Thank you so much this is a great help!!!!!!!!!!!:)
So as you said twinning programs and student exchange programs are different right because twinning allows you to work and stay abroad and for student exchange its mainly for exposure........:)
SP Jain has a PGCIM program- so this is a twinning prog....
I am only looking for US and canadian univ's as my friends and relatives are there......
Can you please tell me some more colleges in india which provide twinning prog's...
Appreciate your help!!!!!!!
I replied you by PM. But still posting here for clarification.
SP Jain's program is a certificate program which lets you transfer credits to a different program abroad. So you cant call it a twinning program.
You can go thru the websites of different institutes to find other such programs if they exist.
Okay, on being asked to do so, this is has been re-posted from a new thread that I had created.
Any kind soul who has been through this post and has an answer to all/all/all/any of the questions here... PLEASE REPLY.
I think I am in a position to answer your question. I was a fresh engineering graduate when I joined SP. And I did not take coaching for CAT. :)
1. MBA after workex or after grads is an eternal question with no specific answer. You are the best person to answer this question. I did my MBA right after engineering as I did not want to work at some tech company. But now, I wish I had worked for a couple of years. Work experience brings about certain kind of maturity in you. It helps you understand the concepts which are getting discussed in the classroom.
2. That brings us to your second question. Whether you do your MBA right after engg or after workex will NOT affect your job prospects. It may influence the profiles being offered to you but to a great extent, if you get into a good school, you will get a good job.
About your job prospects post engg, you can always get into a non-tech role. Even Goldman Sachs recruit fresh B.Coms. You just have to look out for it.
A popular myth is that once you have done your MBA, you get roles which are leadership oriented, sift skill oriented etc etc. That is not true. A starting role even for a fresh MBA is a tech role. Just that the definition of tech changes. For example, in GS, your starting role will involve lots and lots of Excel sheets, balance sheet analysis etc etc. So it is upto you what kind of 'tech' you would want to do.
3. You can always prepare without coaching. Get some material and start preparing. But enroll for a test series. When I was taking CAT, I had enrolled for IMS and CL mocks. After each mock, there was a session on the papers and how to answer the questions. I found those very useful. I don't know how it is done right now. Also be on the lookout for free workshops. They also help.
sb29, thank you so much for replying! I had begun to make up my mind to not think about CAT studies for the next three semesters and instead work on my technical skills for improved job prospects. BUT your reply, although informative, has confused me a bit again. Having work experience is 'better', hmm. But it doesn't affect job prospects much... oh:lookround: Then why should I waste my time trying to start coding and coding n all when I know I am not made for technical jobs AND when I could be using the same time to prepare for management exams? Now I have to re-think. (Ah the unending chain of thoughts will begin again )
And I am aware that GS recruits freshers. I am a B.Tech student and they come for campus placements. But then problem with ALL these things is that there isn't ONE option whose outcome you could be sure of. Damn.
One thing though, amid all this, do you recommend preparing for GATE? For PSUs? Wouldn't it be a totally different track?
Thanks a lot for the help. Really appreciate it. :)
Tech is not just about coding. There is a lot of team dynamics, leadership skills etc involved. Thats what I was trying to point out.
Also, my advice would be not to focus on 2 tests at the same time. So if you prepare for GATE, focus on that only. Don't prepare or CAT at the same time. PSU is a good option. But in case you want to take up MBA after 2 years, you won't learn much at a PSU.
Hi, am looking for a job in Baroda in finance/marketing profiles. I have completed MBA this year. I can forward my CV to the person interested. Feel free to pm me. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you
hi puys, I am a chartered accountant having a post qualification experience of more than 23 months with two big4 audit firms (to be split as first 18 months in one and next 5 months in another). I had to quit the firm in novemeber to give my CFA level 1 exams this december. I have not looked for a job since then. Though i had quit my job to focus on CFA studies I would like to extend it to cover my CAT exams as well. I have always aspired to get into top bschools in India and plan to prepare for CAT exams this year. During my CA and CFA studies i have identified my areas of interests are in core finance that is away from just number crunching accounts/audit. Though I do like CFA subjects I believe that a career in the same would jeopardize my personal life (having already experienced it in the audit field) and hence I am more bent over MBA finance that would help me cover a broader range in finance to set up a career.
My question: a. How much does a break of an year affect your chances of getting into a top bschool? I find pressure from my peers to get into a job. however my family can support itself and does not depend on my income. b. I can get into my dad's CA firm that can provide me with ample time to focus on my studies. how will this look against my previous big4 experience.

1. Break year doesn't look bad as long as you can justify the break. 2. I feel this would be a good option. You can always say that you joined your dad so that you can have lesser workload and focus on clearing CFA. Or you can say that you wanted to join your family business. Either sounds right.
