@sb29
Thank you.Phd as in integerated Phd?
@karthik09 What is integrated PhD??
@sb29 afaik, some schools abroad (not sure how it is in India) which offer a 3-yr PhD program (where one of the key entry requirements is completion of a degree, Bachelor or Master, with a 'substantial' research component) also offer a 4-yr integrated PhD (1st yr dedicated to prepare the students for research work through additional courses like research techniques, fundamentals of qualitative and quantitative research etc.).

btw.. do you guys have a break during xmas/new yrs at NBS?
@dd2013 I don't think such 'integrated' programs are popular. The only one which comes to my mind is at Cass school in UK. But that is their only PhD program. They don't have any 3 year option. Ya, we have Christmas break.
@sb29 I think it is better to view the 'integrated' thing as a preparative step towards the actual PhD (with no consequence towards the credibility or popularity of the degree). In Australia, Wollongong offers such a program in addition to the 3 yr PhD (which is good because in Australia you cannot enrol in a PhD in management if you dont have a research based 1st or 2nd degree). In UK also it is not that uncommon. Lancaster, for example, (PhD ranked 7 in the world by FT) offers an integrated PhD in addition to the 3 yr PhD.
@dd2013 OK. By the way, check how FT ranks PhD programs. Number of students graduating in past 3 years. You will find Manchester Business school has the number 1 PhD program in the world! :)

hi..all
i need some help here...Currently am doing BA English and am interested in doing MBA. Am started preparing for CAT 2013. Joined T.I.M.E. Because i lost touch with maths i cant able to solve a single problem from CAT model questions (obviously am not up to there to solve question from CAT). So now i am started recollecting my maths basics. Can you guys give me some suggestions about where should i start preparing for maths to make it up to CAT standard.? I got a feeling that my preparations are not up to there.! So i need help of you guys..:)
Another thing that disturbs me is that, is my background.
Is there any one you know that made into any top 30 b schools..with an English background..?

10th :88%
12th :70% (CS maths)
Graduation :English x%

Hi,

I want to consult my problem with you..

I have done Master's in Science ( Mathematics) and my graduation with Computers. and i have good academic records. i also have 1 year experience as a Coordinator with a manufacturing unit. recently i earned certification in project management i.e, (CAPM) through PMI.

My dilemma is that : i want to work with PMO. but i am not getting any good opportunity because of my poor job profile. As i also don't have any professional degree, so it is quiet difficult for me to enter in the industry.

Now, I am making my mind to do my MBA from abroad. I am concerned about the eligibility criteria of top universities. Do they require more than 3-4+ yr experience or anything else? i have gone through many forums. everyone there is having 3+ year working experience or good profiles. I am little worried because of my poor profile .

I still want to give myself a chance to do something good in my life. I would really appreciate your advice!

Thanks in advance!!
J

hi friends this is swetha.

I want some one to please help me out, i have completed my graduation and writing all mba related entrance test, attempted cat and mat, this is my profile.

10th - 79.5%
+2 - 87.6%
b.tech(c.s.e) - 68.2%

I wanna get into some good b school even going to attempt snap and xat, please let me know which b'schools i can apply.

this is my cat experience:
attempted 40 qs 16 in sec I 22 in sec II,
Im pretty sure about sec I with atleast 90% accuracy
and coming to sec II i found as if all questions were pretty easy to me so i havent hesitated to answer but i used to be weak in sec II in my aimcats so im worrying about my percentile.

and coming to my mat experience:
attempted only 70Qs i dont know what the mess happend, i ran out of time though im sure i can do all 150Qs. So im even worried about my mat.

Im preparing well for snap, but one doubt running in my brain about applying to snap colleges there in the application form while filling i marked 5 colleges ''applying for'' and after completion i have seen a note bottom of it showing Ensure to REGISTER and also PAY for all institute(s) that you wish to 'apply for' else your application will not be accepted. and im not economically well to apply all those 5 colleges, and i have registered for only 2 colleges and i cant afford more to other ones. so im worrying about snap too, will my application rejected?

hey plz some one help me out of this dilema, waiting for your replies and i have more to ask.
@prsreek work on your maths basics. it is very important to have your concepts clear.. number systems, permutation and combination, probability and ratio / proportions are some of the important areas. once the basics are right you can upgrade to quants books by arun sharma (those were extremely popular back in my cat days).. also talk to your peers and instructors at TIME.. they will be able to give you whats popular now

do not worry about your background.. it is true that historically majority of b-school students have had an engineering/science background.. but it really doesn't matter.. good cat percentile will assure you of an interview call and if you are able to convince the panel during the interviews that you fit in, you will be through.. your english background will not be a deterrent
@mak008 if you have interest in sibm , then write snap ...thats it, already you have job in hand... in case you havent scored well in cat then you can look up for another job upto infosys doj..why r u worrying there are a lot of jobs in the industry and with that marks and mainly knowledge its gonna be a cup of cake for u,
@HAKUNAMATATAAAA No man , it is not easy finding jobs specially if u r from a regular college doesn't matter even if u hv a gr8 academic record. I hv been rejected by some good companies just coz i am not from a tier1 college and selected candidates with half my scores just coz dey were from NITs. The only thing i fear is dat if i don't get a 98 or a 99 in cat i don't hv a back up .

I think i hv done well in cat ( interms of no. of attempts), but u can never b sure wen it comes to cat ! that's d reason fr my confusion .

Hi All,This one is straight from my heart… I am very sorry for the long post…but please do provide your valuable suggestions.I am an engg. Graduate 2010 passout working in one of the top 2 IT companies of India from past 21 months. I am very much frustrated and have made up my mind to quit this job . In fact I had decided to quit the job in year 2011 itself. But just because of social pressure I have somehow dragged this for so long. But I can't take this anymore now. There are a lots of things in my mind and I am very confused.I don't want to be in a corporate world, in fact, I never wanted to be in the corporate world right since my college days for a number of reasons.I want a job that is challenging as well as I want to take out time for my family and for myself as well. I have never longed for high pay packages because all I want is mental peace… Now, with the sole aim of getting out from this job I have tried my hands in number of exams such as CAT, SSC-CGL, IBPS-PO and some PSU's in the past year. I have cleared SSC and IBPS-PO but I am not going for ssc as my marks are poor in that. I will certainly go for IBPS-PO interview if I get a call because it might get me the dream job – close to family, near my hometown ,a respectable govt. job. . CAT result is pending but I am not hoping for a good percentile as I didn't prepare that well for exam. Also there is not enough motivation to go for CAT because I am scared I will again land up in a multinational company in the corporate jungle.Because my aim is to get a good govt. job that too near my hometown, I have decided to study for GATE exam for full time next year and get into a good PSU. Even if don't make it into the PSUs , I hope to get admission for m.tech and then I can get a job as an engg. College lecturer. My problem is how I will justify that 1 year gap that is about to be created once I leave the job. Also, I have to answer to a lot of people back home as to why I have left the job. My friends tell me to stay here only or to switch in another so called software company. They also tell me if I stay here for another 2-3 years I might go to onsite and can earn huge bucks. But, as I said , that's not my option. I will never be happy even if I become the next CEO of my present company. I have seen my both the parents working as govt. servants and I would like to be just like them. I don't know how can one be so happy in getting up early in the morning and come to do an outsourced work for a foreign client …I fail to understand how can one be satisfied doing that. Is it just because of money that motivates these people? Whatever it is- I am very much clear in my mind that this job is not my cup of tea.Friends, please suggest a way out for me. I would really be very grateful if someone can the guiding light for me and suggest an appropriate plan for my career.P.S.:- Please don't suggest me to continue the job as I have already made up my mind and I will resign next month. Please suggest a way forward !Thanks in advance
Hi buddy...I was exactly in the same situation few months back...I had calls from some very good colleges but could not convert it...I quitted my IT job and joined Bank....As, I was also highly frustated wid IT job and shared the same thought as yours like what the F**k am I doing...serving foreign clients...etc etc....and wanted to get away at any cost.
I think I have posted my dilemma on PG too....sum ppl suggested me not to do so but I did...

Well, what I feel today is that I did right by quitting IT job but I did wrong by joining bank....I was not interested in PSU's, therefore I joined bank instead of going 4 GATE/PSU entrances...I did not go for SSC as I found Bank job more respectable...I am posted in my hometown and everything is as I wished...But,at the bottom of my heart I feel this place is not for me..I can be here for some time but not permanently...Therefore what I wold suggest you that do some more analysis before joining any new job...You can resign...but think twice before joing new job..as the expecatations /outside perspective can be very different when u join as job satisfaction depends on many factors...and may vary individual to individual...So,be patient and think pros and cons before joing any new thing..

PS: Today I feel that I should have taken break and prepare instead of joining bank but I was also suspectible about year GAP...

ok...mine is a very complicated situation.

I am Mayank Kishore, i did my engineering from symbiosis institute of technology, pune with my specialization being electronics and telecommunication with a cgpa of 3.622 out of 4 which corressponds to 90.55% and recently recieved a gold medal for that .I completed my engineering in may 2012. I got placed in infosys , but my doj is 19th Aug 2013 ( ). Also, I hv 88.8% in Xth ( CBSE ) and 82.4% in Xiith ( CBSE ) .Now, I appeared for cat in 2011 and scored a 94.4. So, i thought that this gap is a blessing in disguise for me so i must utilise it to crack cat. I prepared hard for cat and did not look for any job. Infact, I let go a few oppurtunities fr cat .

Now, I also wrote nmat and scored 212 with balanced sectionals. I wrote iift as well and i am scoring 47 overall acording to test funda, but i hv screwed my varc so i am gonna miss out on sectionals.

Now, i have also applied for snap which is scheduled on 16th of dec . On the same day we have accenture's off campus drive in new delhi where i hv been shortlisted directly for the technical interview thru my elitmus score where i scored 99.93. Now, the problem is I can either write snap or attend accenture where my probability of getting selected is 80% according to elitmus. The doj for accenture is gonna b 2nd jan 2013. The only job offer i hv right now is dat of infosys which i am suppossed to join at mysore on 19th Aug 2013 which means that if i don't get a minimum of 98 in cat , i am screwed coz then i'll hv to wait till 19th aug. Also, i feel that i hv a very good chance in snap. I am completely confused whether to attend accenture's off campus drive or risk everything on mba entrance examinations ?????? Also , lemme make it clear dat i won't get any preference in SIBM just coz i hv done my grad from symbi itself

plss somebody guide me on this !!!!!!! pls pls pls pls pls !!!!!
Guys Clearing CFA and FRM both is a good Idea or not. Im writing CFA June 2013 and Planning to write FRM ma 2013. Some say its of no use as they Focus or very different areas. But I wanted to know clearing both of them will Give me any advantage in CV points or no ?
@katty14 - hi buddy...thanks a lot for the reply...i think i might be in a same position after a couple of months as you are in now....as i mentioned i have cleared IBPS written exam and now the interviews will take place...i am hoping to clear it and , well, getting a home posting is a distant dream as of now. But yes, as i introspect , i also feel whether to join it or not...it is a fact that i want to be in a govt. sector job and it would be best if i end up getting a home posting. I have a very heavy penchant for the PSUs like BHEL,ONGC,NTPC, etc....and i certainly from the bottom of my heart want to dedicate 1 full year for its preparation but its a big gamble...i am again caught in a dilemma what to do....but i am crystal clear in my mind whatever i will do...i will certainly not be a part of this IT industry...i am ready for 1 year gap as well ...i will study hard and will certainly crack some exams again and would give a new dimension to my career because...."koshish karne waalon ki kabhi haar nahi hoti" :)
visionIIM-ACL,ajaygovindg,abhimukh19......sir i am Btech graduate in bioinformatics.my CAT12 was not very good so i am not expecting good percentile.now i want to get any job in IT sector or anyother to get experience and i really don't know what to do now......next year i am thinking to write some government exam......so plz sir help me and advise me what to do now.

i know this is out of the subject of the forum, but tensed
so telme, i missed out on a college for applying, should i try and talk to the administration or something? does late fee work? (for mbe, south campus)
if anyone with an experience,share!
@Tyranitar As someone has rightly told you, simply clearing some random certifications for the sake of brownie points in resume is not going to help in any way! There should be some focus. No point trying to be "Jack of all trades and master of none!" Focus on any one of the certifications depending on your specific interest area in Finance. Also remember that once you clear these certifications your B-School admission interviews will revolve around concepts in that. So be sure & thorough of what you learn/read for that.
