Hi! I'm in a dilemma and need your opinion as per my career perspective.
Work Ex - 2years 10 months in HR domain. (*quit job as i wanted to do my masters).
P.S.- I'm a resident of Bangalore and was looking to apply for good b-schools around here. However, i was also keen in applying outside bangalore but due to funding issues i would prefer studying in Bangalore.
Thanks a ton!
1. Try for some job in startups by some acquaintance, relative, senior etc. rather than those high paying corporate jobs. You'll also learn/understand a lot.
2. Contributing to an NGO
3. Try for some short internships, live projects etc. Try searching in letmeknow.in & letsintern.com or else try through your contacts.
4. Look for some certifications in your area of interest in MBA. Search the list pagalguy.com/forums/career-discussions/certificati... to see if anything interests you, do DETAILED research and then take up any of interest. If you're not sure of which area you want to be in this option is NOT recommended. Randomly doing some certification for the sake of doing it & for brownie point in resume will not help.
5. Pursue some passion, hobby etc. you may have. Spend some time for yourself. This again is NOT recommended if you cannot speak confidently about it & answer the many questions that may arise in interviews.
@stellarPG said:Dilemma - Am very sure of doing an MBA in the batch 2013-2015. Since, most programme starts from April-May. I'll have a gap of almost 10 months if i stay idle till then. I have applied to different job portals but the profiles & brands offered is not good at all. It'll be great if anyone can help me know how should i utilise the pre-mba months productively.
Firstly, even if you start working tomorrow, you'll still have a 4 month gap. Be ready to justify it. Ensure that the answer you give is strong enough. The gist of it can be the truthful answer, that you wanted to prepare for the competitive exams, but it has to justify that the gap was needed.
Secondly, it may not be possible to get a fulltime role for just 4-5 months. I'd recommend joining a project based role in the field you want to work in after your MBA. Eg for marketing, join an agency.
You can also join an NGO and volunteer your time. Whether it adds any value to your CV is something people can debate on, but it will certainly help you on a personal level. TFI, CRY, Akanksha and others across the country are examples.
You can also take this time out - and if you have some savings - then go on a countrywide tour. This need not be just a holiday, but also a knowledge trip. And it can be as long as you want it to be.
Doing certificate programs may be helpful, but not too interesting, and certainly not enough to justify the gap.
No matter what you do, be ready to be asked about the gap, and how you answer them and justify it is important. Draft your answers carefully, but truthfully.

@Sunil.Bathini said:hey puys,,Can anyone plz clear this thingwhat type of marketing profile in placement a fresher gets with no work experience opting for MBA marketing in top 15 colleges ????I had read somewhere that freshers no matter from watsoever college they get low profile jobs in marketing initially,is it so???????plzz seniors reply
Hi Puys,
My query is short and simple. I have worked in IT sector for 2 years. Want to prepare for IAS but don't want to take drop. I have following options-
1. Bank PO- Selected in UCO Bank.
2. Some MBA college in Delhi
3. IT Job in Delhi with weekend classes.
4. SSC.
Kindly suggest the best option with pros and cons.
I specially want to ask that is it possible to prepare for IAS as bank PO or with MBA?
Hi,
I am currently working in Cisco and will be joining Family Business from Feb 2013.
I would like to get some advise on MBA career.
1. Attempted cat 2012 - not much hope.
2. 10 - 91.6 %
12 - 84.4 %
College Vit - Mech Eng - 8.8 CGPA
pass out - 2011
3. Goals to clear CAT 2013.
Background on business - The Business is growing as of now and it is a private limited company. My dad and his friend are in partnership and now when I go I would be ramping up to take all the responsibilities of my father. The company is a manufacturing company and we are sole manufacturers of Plate type heat exchanger who manufactures in India except the Big Shots who cater large market share. We have currently invested in a technology that will help in manufacturing some Vital Parts in India rather than importing those. Hence huge saving on this individual part. There is a lot to learn as all the solution we provide are solution based and hence lot of manufacturing practical things have to learnt to take over the responsibility.
My Dilemma -
How good is pursuing MBA Full time in 2013? If I go for full time ( after getting good percentile ), is it worth giving up for 2 years compared to the improvement that can be made at home ?
How Good is Part time MBA ?
Should I start pursuing part time now ? or wait for another attempt and try for Full time?
If I attempt Full time, the responsibility has to be shifted again to my father.
Timeline -
Cisco - July 2011 - Jan 2013
FB - Feb 2013 - Dec 2013 ( Attempt cat )
2013 - Part time ?
2014 - Full time ?
Thanks !
I joined shapoorji in aug 2012 which is a construction company through campus selection in NIT Durgapur. I have decent acads with
88.6% X and 89.8% in XII.
As of what I have learned at site, if you are working in construction company it is very difficult (almost impossible) to change your line of work from construction to something such as automobile or energy sector. Also being a mechanical engineer construction work is very much useless to me as nothing of engineering what I have learnt (maybe very little) is applicable here. I dont love my work, rather I hate it !Construction site conditions and working hours are horrible, so I want to change my profession asap.
I am very much interested in doing a MBA with marketing specialization. I gave CAT 2012 with very less prep, as it was my first time I also dont remember how many question I got right or wrong or even attempted (it was a disaster
). I have applied to NITIE,IMT,SP Jain,XIMB,XLRI,MDI. If I am able to get & convert a call from any of these I will definitely go, little bit skeptical about IMT ( High Fees 😞 ). I have prepared for XAT vaguely, due to work pressure but I think it wont be as bad as CAT was.
What I want to ask is that if I am not getting any calls from these shall I apply to other schools like TAPMI or IMI or KJSOM,etc or leave my work and get a job in small (can be very small) design firm or anything of that sort and try again next year. Well whatever the case might be I will be leaving my present field of work that is for certain.
Any help advices regarding such greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
I was told that I would get more help here.
