Quite the contrary.

B-schools like engineers who have worked in core industries, and automobile is one such industry.

Basically, what matters is how well you can present your learnings and contributions at your workplace. If they think your working years have made a good managerial candidate, then they like you. Doesnt matter what work it is.

Hey guys,
I really need some advice for my career. I am currently in 3rd year, engineering (no surprises here), eee. With pretty bad acads so far
10th- 91.4%
12th- 76.4% (dropped an year)
B.E.- around 7.4 gpa

I never knew that poor acads will hinder to this extent in getting into iims. I am ready to work hard now, i have started working on quant and english.. I really wanted to make it big.. But just know i realised i may have lost it. They are considering the weightage of acads upto 30% ironically equal to cat weightage.

Now, can somebody help me out here. Are any of the iim's still open for me? I mean not like 'nothing is impossible', i mean, do i have a fair chance in any of them?

Secondly, does other colleges like, XLRI, SPJIMR, JBIMS, FMS, IIFT, SJMSom consider past acads?
I am really worried and messed up. I would really appreciate your responses.

@iimWannabe What are you so worried about? Nishana lagaya nahi ki abhi se haar maan baithe? I am sure if you have done some proper research, you will know by now which institutes give more weightage to acad scores and which give less. Right now, focus on completing your engineering, and preferably gain 1-2 years of work ex, which will serve you in good stead later on.

ok i'll be frank....

i could be wrong but these are the colleges who probably wont call you because of acads :

IIM A, B, I, K, SPJ

colleges which do not consider acads for giving calls are these : IIM C, L, new IIMs, NITIE, MDI, XL, FMS, IITs

try flat out for these.....

in my final year of engineering..gave CAT this time..don't have any calls til now ..missed out in NMAT,IIFT ..no hopes in SNAP as well ..CAT ka reslut bacha hai ..but not very hopeful..:(
i am feeling very down from past few days ..i feel i have let down myslf ..not that i didn't prepare sincerely..but i feel utna ho nai paaya ..abhi tak job bhi nai hai koi mere paas ..i am confident next year pakka nikal jaunga ..but job ka scene nai 😞 agar job nai ho ..n i do manage to get calls ..PI mei will they question on this? what wil be my chances then?
please reply ppl .. m really very down these days :(

firstly, wishing u a happy new year :)

its a new beginning, so forget about the last year n its happenings and now focus on your goals ahead :)

secondly, i am in kind of same situation myself...final year of engineering...IIFT n NMAT, i missed them marginally...IIFT me toh sectional clear ho gai sari bt overall i fell short...NMAT me i didn't fill for d other 2 campuses so even though i got a score of 203 bt still of nt much use, i guess....

CAT toh upar wala jane kya hoga 9th ko :P

d reason, y i am telling all of this stuff 2 u z dt its not d end of life buddy...n its not the end of road 4 u n most importantly u'r not alone in such a situation...so don't feel so depressed...don't blame yourself...

i don't have much knowledge abt d PI portion...sm other people may respond 2 it...however i would like to say that don't think so far in2 d future n fret yourself...

plz its not something dt z in your hands right now so us baat ko le kar pareshan hone ka kya fayda....

its future, nobody knows what's gonna happen...so there z an equal probability of it turning beneficial 4 u 😃 😃 :)

c'mon buddy, don't be so sad n dejected...u still have a long way 2 go :)

and i'm travelling wd u kinda in d same boat...n dere r many others like u n me...

so don't be so dejected n cheer up :)

treat urself a little bit...go out, have fun, welcome d new year n resolve 2 give a better performance in ur next attempt 😃 :)

it took me 4 attempts (4 years) to crack NITIE, so please relax !! you have a lot of time left !!

this was just your first attempt !! kya tension leta hai !!

in the PI they mostly dont ask such questions. Suppose they do, just say that your placement process is still on and you expect to bag a job soon !! they dont care much about that !!

sir after going through a lot of threads here.. i came to know that ca are given extra preference in iim bangalore .. the thing is even the topper in ca exams has about 60 - 65 % in exams let alone other passouts, and i am doing bcom from DU where the topper has 70 % this generalization is not correct .. so are there any other colleges that gives preference to ca if i get good percentile in cat , as i have pretty average to bad acads ..
10 -82 %
12 - 82 %
b.com 1st year ( DU SOL ) - 50 %
2nd year - 54 % ( will give these exams again )
i am in third year bcom and a ca final student thank you sir..

BTECH -- 8.45

Working Experience of 3years in Infosys and CMC Limited and will be joining CTS after some days. So the total Exp is in IT.

I am planning to give CAT in 2013.

Now the queries are:

1. Do my experience and Marks makes me not a suitable candidate for FULL TIME PGDM in any good ranked Institute?
2. With my profile - does scoring less than 97-98%ile ends the CAT hope for that year?
3.Do u think that getting into reputed Coaching Institutes help a person or going for less knowned Coaching Centers with good faculties who take personal care helps.
4.Suggest me some books and links for study.
5. Can you give a rough study plan(provided that I am completely NUMB in Maths and more or less OK OK in VERBAL)

Hi Puys,Currently am employed with Infosys Technologies Limited...I have a total experience of an year and half...What should be my criteria while choosing BSchools since am planning to quit my job and join MBA.but my parents are not very keen about me leaving the job and joining MBA since the market is quite low and neither me nor they are confident about my placement post MBA...
What would each one of you recommend...

@Ravsan do not end up anywhere other than top 20 b-school 😃 by the time you will join MBA education, you will have 2 years of work ex. So no point of reserving a seat beyond top 20 PS : i am also infoscion. :D

hi guys..finished my engg in may 2012..gave cat in nov..was very bad..immediately joined dell as a tech support engg..planning to work till may 2013(i.e. 6months) and give cat again..can u please tell me if tech support considered a valid work-ex for mba??plz reply guys..
