@Arun0058 Any job that is full time and for which you are getting paid is a valid work-ex. You should have valid documents such as Joining Offer Letter and Monthly Pay Slips for proof. Hope it helped. All the Best.. :)
@Ravsan
If you are keen on doing MBA, do not worry and go for it.
Getting placed is in your hands to a lot of extent. If you work hard and perform after joining a B-School, no one can stop you from getting a good placement.
But if you are thinking of enjoying your 2 Yrs of time @ B-School, then forget it. All the Best.. :)
@avinashkrjha thanks a lot bro..exam din go that well this time..hoping to crack it the next time man..hopefully the experience makes some difference atleast!!
hey guys i forgot to ask 1 thing please tell me the branch of mba which has following qualities , (this may sound a bit childish but i am trying hard to find the answer to it )
- involve creative work
- good working hours to enjoy life also ( 9 - 6 )
- decent pay ( i am not after heavy pay packages , )
- should not be monotonus
- interesting and challenging
i went to that why finance thread and after going through first few pages .. none of the job interests me.. so i am asking other seniors in what field do they think has above qualities..
i'll read and explore more just give me the names.. i know it is subjective but still some direction
thanks
My profile is: class 10 : 83%, class 12: 71%, b-tech: 79.9%, 1 national level merit scholarship and work ex of 15 months.... but the problem that i have is I am a 2009 passout and want to join a MBA college in 2013, means after 4 yrs( 48 months) but have an experience of just 15 months dat too in bits and pieces. Since sept 2011, i am not working anywhere but just giving pvt tuitions.....that means a gap of 1yr and four months; there are genuine reasons for all these and I can substantiate dat as well during my PI..... my query is will this gap and low experience be a problem during the selection process of any decent MBA college if I can provide genuine reasons for the same; and if i get selected, will this be a hindrance for me in getting placed in good companies ?? want an honest and practical answer.... plzzz .... I have given CAT 2012 and expecting something around 90 %ile according to career launcher, @avinashkrjha
@biriyani_lover
If you can justify it properly with genuine reasons, I don't find any reasons for problems during selection process.
Also, once you join a B-School, you again need to justify the reasons for your Gap. After that, it's your knowledge, communication skills, etc that is the main driver for placements.
Also, try to score as high as possible in the Term Exams when you join the B-School. All the Best.. :)
@Rish1
Whatever you are asking can be found in all the specializations i,e Finance, Marketing, Ops, HR. It depends on what profile you get and which sector you are joining. A lot depends on your interest as well.
I would suggest you to go through all these threads - Why HR, Why Marketing, Why SCM and then come on conclusion.
Do get back for any kind of query.
Cheers.. !!
thanks a lot avinash sir .. i wanted to know the names of these specific threads .. will go through all of them .. once again thanks
Dear Puys,
I need guidance from you regarding MBA.
I am 30 yr old guy. After completing B.Tech I joined TCS and worked for about 3 yrs after which I joined my family business. But things have become very difficult lately and its very tough for small businesses to survive in Hyderabad. I am planning to do an MBA so that I can get a good job and settle down. My query is am I old to do MBA after 30 ? I wish to do regular 2 yr MBA and not 1yr executive MBA( since its very expensive). Please guide my Pagalguy.
@dev_108
Even 2 Yr Courses are as expensive as 1 Yr Course except for few colleges.
Regular 2 Yr Course can be more beneficial if one utilizes it properly. But then, during placements, you might face certain issues. Few companies might not prefer to take you. Though, that doesn't mean you won't get placed. If you can justify everything and you have required knowledge and skill sets, companies would def recruit you.
But still, I would suggest you not to go beyond Top 15/20 B-School. All the Best.. :)
@avinashkrjha
Thanks for the kind suggestion. I really have to be in top 15 colleges if I'll do MBA.
@Rish1 said:thanks a lot mukulspock sir and icecool11 and happy new year to everyonesir after going through a lot of threads here.. i came to know that ca are given extra preference in iim bangalore .. the thing is even the topper in ca exams has about 60 - 65 % in exams let alone other passouts, and i am doing bcom from DU where the topper has 70 % this generalization is not correct .. so are there any other colleges that gives preference to ca if i get good percentile in cat , as i have pretty average to bad acads .. 10 -82 %12 - 82 %b.com 1st year ( DU SOL ) - 50 %2nd year - 54 % ( will give these exams again )i am in third year bcom and a ca final student thank you sir..
Your 10th and 12th acads are not bad.
As for your graduation acads, i'm not sure what standards are acceptable at various bschools, but usually they are relaxed for CAs.
Best way to find out is to contact the people in those colleges.
Each college has it's own thread on PG, you can post queries there.

ALL post-MBA jobs are interesting, challenging and require creativity in the beginning.
And a few years on, they ALL feel monotonous.
They all have decent pay.
And most importantly, NONE have working hours less than 10-12hrs/day.

@SBRPhoenix said:Let me give me a samll intro (although speaking of Marks and Career at the 1st instance is very bad)Xth-86.9XIIth -78.1BTECH -- 8.45Working Experience of 3years in Infosys and CMC Limited and will be joining CTS after some days. So the total Exp is in IT.I am planning to give CAT in 2013.Now the queries are:1. Do my experience and Marks makes me not a suitable candidate for FULL TIME PGDM in any good ranked Institute?2. With my profile - does scoring less than 97-98%ile ends the CAT hope for that year?3.Do u think that getting into reputed Coaching Institutes help a person or going for less knowned Coaching Centers with good faculties who take personal care helps.4.Suggest me some books and links for study.5. Can you give a rough study plan(provided that I am completely NUMB in Maths and more or less OK OK in VERBAL)
1. Most candidates are like you in terms of profile !! You are suitable for anything !!
2. Depends on cutoffs for various colleges. And for those colleges who call based only on cat cutoffs, profile doesnt matter.
3. Select a coaching institutes which gives plenty of mock tests and has good workshops. Mock tests are the most important prep resource.
5. Study plan ? Daily 2 hours math and 1 hour verbal dude !! nothing else to it !!

Do you have any sort career plan charted out ?
Career plan means what company you want to be in ? what function ? what post ? etc.
If you have these in mind, then check out if your choice of companies recruits for your choice of job profiles from any b-school.
If they do, try for an MBA from there.
Basically just think if an MBA will lead you to the kind of work you would like to be doing, and dont think in terms of pay packages.

A bschool panel does not care about what work you have done.
What they look for is, if you have been working, then have you made any significant contributions, and have you learned anything worth while. They try to guage if working has made you a better managerial candidate or not.
What the work is doesnt matter so much.
think on these lines and prepare accordingly.
All the best.

@Arun0058 Adding to what Mukul has said above, 6months of work exp is not considered that significant in almost all major B-Schools. So all that matters and the credit you'll be getting is for not being idle for those 6months. But then if you plan to quit then and prepare for CAT '13 sitting idle for the rest of the time till 2014 admissions, the 6 months will be equivalent to NULL and you'll be considered at par with freshers only! Even otherwise for any work exp less than 1year its more or less like that for almost all leading institutes. Yes, like I said you'll be given some credit (not marks) for not being idle and being able to multitask by managing prep with work!

Well said!
@Rish1, you can't get the complete picture just by reading job descriptions. The best thing to do is reach out to some professionals and get a first-hand opinion. But really, MBA is all about fast growth and big challenges, so if you're after shorter working hours and decent pay, maybe HR would be a better field, or perhaps look for other career options.
