I am currently working in IT company for the past 2.3 years. I'm thinking of doing masters.
I did my UG in Electronics and Instrumentation engineering. I'm in a dilemma whether to take Masters in Electrical engineering or Engineering Management.
If i take Electrical engineering,my experience wont be count. Could you all suggest whether Masters in Engineering management course is worth and how about the scope and job opportunities after the course completion.
I will be taking masters in fall-2014...which means another 1.5 years and i would be nearly 4 years experienced by that time and thats why i'm thinking of taking Engineering management.
I am an engg grad from NIt and a work experience of nearly 36 month when i will rite my next cat exam in 2013 . i have a average educational background , so what i have to do enhance my profile , Is i have to go for any certification or i have to work on my extra curricular , because i cant change my acadmic which is a aveage one
I completed my b.tech in computer science in may 2012 and got 3 campus placements but i wanted to do mba first so i dropeed all f them nd prepared for cat. my academic details are
CAT overall 89.55
qa n di 92.24
lr n va 79.99
XII 79.2
X 80.8
XAT 80 percentile
snap 76 percentile
nmat 193 (call from nmims banglore/hydrabad)
also a call from ibs(ICFAI)
but after doin my engineering from a nrmal college(UDML/JECRC fonundation), I do not want to pursue my MBA from any college... wanted to get into an IIM or XLRI or FMS. none other. now looking at my dis year's score, i cant get ny f dese.. 😞 and d ones I might have a chance in,M not interested in goin in them.. 😞 firom past 6 months that is after graduating i sat ar home and prepared so no work ex also.. 😞 now m in a big dillemma dat should i look for a job now dat'll not pay me more dan (10-12k) due to offcampus thing and then again give cat dis year around or should i try my luck in d clgs m having a chnce dis year only... 😞
@sb29 : I have a question . you had posted in your earlier posts that the average experience in top b schools is around 3 years. So does it mean that ppl who have more than 3 years experience are at a disadvantage there ? Could you please explain ?
@nithin247 I didn't say that the average work-ex is 3 yrs. Just that it is a slightly disadvantageous situation for people with higher workex.
This is mainly because companies (mainly marketing and finance) have management trainee batches. Now if they take a person with 0 years work ex and another person with 4 yrs workex, the company has to give the same pay and growth to both. In course of time, the person with 4 yrs workex will start feeling that he should be treated well as he is older and more experienced than the fresher. However the company cant do that as the experience is not relevant. So in the long term, it creates dissatisfaction. Due to this, these companies prefer people with less workex.
However, if you have relevant workex and the business school has good lateral recruitment processes, then you are safe.

hello everyone...I completed my b.tech in computer science in may 2012 and got 3 campus placements but i wanted to do mba first so i dropeed all f them nd prepared for cat. my academic details are CAT overall 89.55 qa n di 92.24 lr n va 79.99 XII 79.2 X 80.8 XAT 80 percentile snap 76 percentile nmat 193 (call from nmims banglore/hydrabad) also a call from ibs(ICFAI) but after doin my engineering from a nrmal college(UDML/JECRC fonundation), I do not want to pursue my MBA from any college... wanted to get into an IIM or XLRI or FMS. none other. now looking at my dis year's score, i cant get ny f dese.. and d ones I might have a chance in,M not interested in goin in them.. firom past 6 months that is after graduating i sat ar home and prepared so no work ex also.. now m in a big dillemma dat should i look for a job now dat'll not pay me more dan (10-12k) due to offcampus thing and then again give cat dis year around or should i try my luck in d clgs m having a chnce dis year only... genuine suggestions welcomed.. plz help..
i can partly identify with ur problem. although, i'm not an expert per say but still, from ur post its very clear that u don't want 2 compromise on ur college value n i fully understand dt...cos even i don't want 2 do d same...although the difference is dt i'm currently in my final sem of btech...
life does not always give what we desire n dt has happened in ur case...u have had more than 6 months gap currently n from the viewpoint that u would have 2 explain this, i would suggest dt u take up a job, the salary part, i know its less but then at least u'll have some experience in ur resume rather than nothing...
u haven't mentioned ur grad details but judging from the fact dt u had 3 placements, so overall u hav pretty good acads, so there z not much of a prblm in dt area...
u have prepared 4 cat ds year n leaving aside snap, ur scores show dt u got potential so all u have to do z give it another shot...u didn't mention ur sectionals in XAT but u would be knowing which sections u'r strong in n which u'r weak so work upon those areas...
now u have an experience as to how it feels to sit for these exams n it would definitely help u in ur next attempts...
so take up a job, so dt u don't add up free-time to ur profile( cos from what i've heard, its a tough job explaining it), prepare 4 it once again, work upon the weaker areas n u might hit gold in ur next attmpt 😃 😃 :)
i've tried my best 2 help u seeing dt u posted twice n u cn revert back if u feel like rest, u can contact d seniors for more help :)

Hello Everyone....I have completed my graduation in 2009 and started working with an HR Consulting firm as a Recruiter..I currently have an experience of 34 months and left my job in July to prepare for entrance exams. However i did not achieve the desired results..Could not clear the cut off for my dream institute which is TISS,Mumbai..So i am wondering if i should apply again next year or take up admission in any decent B-school that comes my way..Also if i intend to apply next year would a gap in my employment create an issue...Strictly looking for pursuing my masters in HR only..My Profile is as follows:10th-72.5%12th-60%BCOM-63%Work Ex-34 monthsAlso volunteered for an NGO for 18 months.Apart from this extra curricular activities are not that great.During college years was working with an Event Management firm for various Corporate Events such as Product Promotion and Launch,Promotional Campaigns,Product Display,Sampling etc and have also given stage performances for various Latin American Dance forms. Also my math is super weak..Wat should i do??Any suggestions??M a little on the ambitious side but my weakness is working against me...
Why would you leave your job? Which consulting firm was it if I may ask?
You're better off getting a job and going to ISB or other 1 year MBA programmes in a few years time.
Hi ,i have one query related to CFA exam . Want to appear for Level 1 exam and give another shot at CAT. got 86.53 percentile in CAT'12;86.19 in XAT'13 My question is whether it will be possible to prepare simultaneously for CFA and CAT?I am also working in an IT company with a current experience of around 6 months
@ashmole2009I was working as a Recruiter with Randstad India Ltd earlier known as Ma Foi Management Consultants Ltd.I left my job for the sole purpose of preparing for entrance exams for various b schools as i found the study material to be a bit too overwhelming and required more time.
Focus on the top HR schools (MDI/Tiss/XLRI). I don't see any value in going to a second tier b-school in India, when some tier 1 schools are questionable as it is.
I have done B.Tech(I.T), passed out in 2012. I want to do MBA in marketing so that I can become Product Manager in an I.T company. Is it a short-term goal or not?and how marketing will help in achieving it?please reply urgent
