I want to concentrate on either CAT or GMAT. Which would be better? And in ISB, what extra certifications would I need?
ISB gives preference to diversity...Certifications like CFA, NCFM, or any other certification which bring you different from others..i have seen many students who got into ISB are having many other degress other than bachlors..for eg ca, cs,cwa or cfa anythin..which suits you
Hi Puys.... I am an aspiring MBA Finance candidate, but I am from engineering background and have no finance related course or knowledge under my belt. Can anyone please suggest me important financial certificate courses or exams to clear before going for MBA finance?thanks..
If you want to take CAT in 2012 and join a B-school next year, then it is better to concentrate on CAT. If you plan sometime beyond this and have time, then there are many courses that you can take like on Risk Management, CFA, etc.
Below are my academics details:- 1.10th 80% C.B.S.E 2.12th 85% C.B.S.E 3.B.E. 71 % From M.D.U I completed my B.E in 2006 and I Have 5 Years of Experience in IT Industry. Now I want to change my profile to work in finance industry. I want to go for an Executive- MBA with 1 Year Regular class programs from top colleges in India only. I have following queries: 1.Will it be worth of doing Ex-MBA with 1 Year Regular programs to enter in to finance industry? 2.Which colleges offer such programs? 3.Do colleges assist Executive-MBAs in placements too? Kindly help me out. Thanks in Advance.
Replies inline. I am assuming you meant 1 year full time program.
Hi,
Below are my academics details:- 1.10th 80% C.B.S.E 2.12th 85% C.B.S.E 3.B.E. 71 % From M.D.U I completed my B.E in 2006 and I Have 5 Years of Experience in IT Industry. I have following queries: 1.Will it be worth of doing Ex-MBA with 1 Year Regular programs to enter in to finance industry? Yes. I would also suggest that you enroll for CFA and clear at least L2 by the time you finish your MBA 2.Which colleges offer such programs? ISB is your best bet. Apart from that you can look at SP Jain's PGPM, Great Lakes, XLRI GMP. If money is not a constraint, I wouls strongly suggest you to do a regular 1 year MBA abroad. 3.Do colleges assist Executive-MBAs in placements too? Yes Kindly help me out. Thanks in Advance.
Thanks Sb29 for your reply. It has cleared the picture for me.
Kindly provide your comments on below query as well:
1. As per your suggestion i googled the course details, and i see they take GMAT score, will it be possible to tell you generally what is the cut-off in these colleges?
2. Should i have my focus on CAT or GMAT or both?
3. How different is preparation of GMAT from CAT? Is it difficult than CAT?

Kindly provide your comments on below query as well:
1. As per your suggestion i googled the course details, and i see they take GMAT score, will it be possible to tell you generally what is the cut-off in these colleges? Generally it is profile based. And obviously higher the GMAT score, the better it is. I think given your experience, a score of above 680 should be comfortable. 2. Should i have my focus on CAT or GMAT or both? You should finalize the programs you want to target and prepare accordingly. I think all 1 yr programs accept GMAT scores
3. How different is preparation of GMAT from CAT? Is it difficult than CAT? Since I have taken both the tests, I can tell you that both are very different from each other. If you see the standalone questions, GMAT may look simpler. But since it is computer adaptive, it tries to find out your percentile based on past 3 years (I think) test takers. Also, it is a 3 and half hours test. So, a different strategy for preparation and test taking will be required.

i m a research trainee .and then i l b a management trainee aftr 3 months
You have a very different kind of experience and the admissions committee at business schools will appreciate that. In fact, your work experience will prove to be highly beneficial if you want to make a career in marketing. So, I would suggest that you continue with your job.
