Personal Dilemma Related Queries

@sb29 Yes i am working as IT officer .. but it is a managerial Kind of Job . So WILL they will consider it as Work Ex.. What should i do like (Any certification) if i want to get good Job in IT Sector.. oR should i consider MBA as a option (But in that case what is should do to improve My skills which are necessary for MBA)

Hi puys....

From the past 18 months workng in TCS as a developer though just for the name sake, they put every fresher in the support profile. I am at this point fed up with this job. Also my results (CAT 82%ile and XAT 91%ile) are not infavour this time so giving it a shot next year too. I am in a dillema as to whether should i switch to non technical profile maybe to a sales and marketing job since i have made up my mind for marketing domain while persuing my MBA. Can anyone throw some light how to switch to a non technical job profile and of how help that would be to me as far as preparation for cat and xat is concerned ?? Is it very hard for a techie to find a job in a non tech domain??? My sole intention for switching is to get more and more of relevant work ex which could take me a step ahead jn this cat race. Also that will give a clear picture of the kind of work that i might be doing 2 3 years later.

Thanks in advance
Rahul

Veterans- Pls help

87 percentile in CAT. Irma- didn't qualify in one section. Tiss- missed by 4 marks. NMAT missed by 7 marks. XAT-blown away-60s. :'(

So now, what do I do?

My aspirations- Help in educating rural india and become a social entrepreneur. So, I'm not looking for a job in marketing, finance et al. But, my results this season have failed me. Now, do I go for a average college, with high fees or do I stay put for another year and take the same tests in 2013.

My dream college would be one with lower fees and good quality education. Placements may be on the lower side, which doesn't bother me as such. But if I go for a college called XYZ whose fees is 10+ , I'll have to work for atleast 4-5 years to repay it.

^ this is my personal dilemma. Suggestions for alternative colleges are also welcome.

There's PGDIE at NITIE which has course structure very similar to MBA!! Do check their website to know further. No other course/institute I know of which accepts GATE score!

You could try for some profiles like Pre-Sales, System Analyst etc. in TCS itself or maybe in some other company in IT industry. Although it is a profile offered to people with MBA, maybe if you're able to convince the HR/interviewer that you have the required skill set, you may be able to get in. Also since you're about to complete 2 years in TCS you can also look out for TATA Administrative Services (TAS), which is a reputed and coveted profile offered only in IIMs, but then people with more than 2 years work exp in a TATA firm can also get in by giving the exam they conduct every year!! Do check the eligibility criteria and other aspects to know more.

Post MBA, it will not be hard to get in non technical domain but then you may have to compromise on certain aspects (like salary, location etc.) in your first job or the initial stages of your career.

Hii Ajay,

thanks for your reply.

I am currently working for Ericsson account in TCS and i am sure as hell they will not entertain me if I asked them for a release, so this option is ruled out.
As I mentioned earlier a pre MBA job in non tech domain probably in sales and mktg or advertisement or media management will benefit me in the long run, not just while getting a call fir GD\PI.
The problem is I am not aware of the process by which the non tech companies actually recruit, neither I am aware which job profile will best suit me at the position I am standing right now.

Please share your valuable suggestions.
Suggestions are welcomed from anybody.
@ajaygovindg one more query...even if I work for any non tech domain starting somewhere near may, the relevant exp would hardly reach 6-7 months, so do you think its worth changing the domain. I mean will it help me in every other way till i convert my call ??

@ajaygovindg ...if i leave my IT job & startup a sole propreitorship , build a website & FB page and market my biz online/offline.. starting customers would be my friends ... & also strive for clearing CFA level 1 this year.. will it be considered as good non IT experience ?? ..coz i want to keep both finance & marketing horizons open for mba ..
Would be considered as a decent experience!!

However, be ready to answer this during placements at B-School " When you left previous job for your venture, why do you want to join a job now rather than continuing your venture' and ' how can we be assured that you wont leave us within sometime for your venture' .

For B-School admit process - How will MBA help you in your venture !!

Puys I'm getting a lot of calls from bschools and colleges I've never heard about.. Surprisingly I did not apply to any of these colleges... Yet they keep calling me asking me to apply for MBA in their institute.. Shockingly one lady I spoke to from these institutes claimed that bschools were like tutorial colleges and only university affiliated bschools are worth the money and value...!!!!! I was shocked cuz most PGDM courses well appreciated from industry are from bs hooks and not from university ... Could anyone throw some light on this?

I heard from some of the other students that older students in B-schools find it very difficult to get placed.I am already 26 years old. I graduated in 2008. I tried starting and running a business but that did not work out for me. So, now, I think doing an MBA from a top b-school would set things right for me.

But the problem is that I don't have proper work experience. (conventional work experience, no blue chip company experience).

I would be around 30 years old with no-so-great experience on paper when there are placements.

If I do join a 2 year MBA, would I have problems getting placed?

Hi Puys,

Presently working in an MNC with 30k in hand sal, Bangalore.
Got a selection as SSC - Tax Assistant CBEC , Gujarat (govnt job, in hand 20K sal) - taken this exam in a hope to get a plateform in which I can get time with a secure kind of job -- but got almost among the last posts, not the grade B :(

Eager to prepare for UPSC Civil Services.
Also SBI PO xam is ahead.

To combat my situation I have following:

Plan A : Continue with MNC nd try to get 5-6 hrs daily for studies. - --schedule is hectic, job is less secure, 4-5 hrs min daily can be manageable

Plan B : Target for SBI PO (more secure job)..then try to get time there for studies during training period. -- not sure if in this will I get 7-8 hrs for me after work.

Plan C : Join the TA job in Gujarat, then continue for preparation there only.--- could be a downfall from my current career as an Soft Engineeer..nd also wht if no success in UPSC later as results are not in my hands...

Please note that I have already used my first attempt , and three attempt left including this May Prelims xams ( average preparation done till now for this attempt), age is being 27+ yrs.

Kindly suggest the best path to take with analysed manner as I am not in condition to leave the job.

Thanks and gratefulness in advance.
@vishal3403
Rule out option two. If you were to join SBI PO then u will nether have time to prepare nor earn in par with IT job. Select from 1 and 3. If u join bank then u shld decide to stick to it for ever and thts a hectic job in the lines of IT bt no proper and sufficient earning as in IT. Only adv is job security, bt nt monetary security.

Hi vishal3403

I can completely empathize with your dilemma, but if you aim is CSAT then you need to make some sacrifices.SSC will provide you ample time for your studies, what more do you want .Now a days many join SSC to have a backup and launch their civil prep.

"nd also wht if no success in UPSC later as results are not in my hands..."

My friend this statement shows a hint of practicality and a doubt in your mind. Please nip this in the bud and be absolutely sure what you want to do in life.Rest is your take. ATB
