Well unfortunately , acads are an important part of their selection process .. However when one gains enough domain experience ( let say in manufacturing or energy or fmcg sector) , then experience counts much more than acads

@abhimukh19 thats not cool ... so a person with an average academic profile ( i mean only at grad. level) will find it difficult to qualify for the consultant profile , provided that he is the top performer of his b-school batch ???

Exceptions are always there buddy , but consulting firms look at consistency in academic records which includes MBA GPA

hello guys,am new here...this is my first post10th-88.27%12th-94.83%b.tech(IT) 2012 passout- screwed up big time..had 24 arrears mainly due to lack of interest ...somehow was able to clear 20 arrears during my last sem and got 6.60 cgpacat 2012-82.40 percentile.....only prepared for one month before the exam....i believe with proper preparation i can get good percentile in cat 2013....since i have no ex....it will become 2 years gap, when i sit for interviews next year....i have already converted bimtech pgdm, have to attend ifmr and bim gd/pi...my parents are forcing me to take up admission this year itself, but i want to try for iims.....can i get into iim with a bad graduation mark and also with 2 years gap.....any help would be much appreciated.
Get a job and re-take. Going to a non brand b-school will add no value to your CV and you will end up in a job, you most likely, will hate/dislike.

Hi,

I work for IBM, I have been selected in GLIM.
I am not able to decide whether to opt for LWP or resign?
Notice period is 3 months(I have only one month) and I am not sure if they will re-negotiate after I join from LWP...

Can anyone help me out.. What would be my best course of action??

@newman_uk ... It's never too late, in most of the colleges you have listed the avg age and exp are quite high.... You need to get a good GMAT score (but you obviously know that 😃 ) fill out some forms and you are ready for your MBA.
Since you are planning to go for GMAT or may have already done so... I suggest you start following beatthegmat.com , it has all the info you need for applying in the colleges which are in your watch-list..

Hi,
I work for a IT company for the past 27 months...I am planning to write CAT for the first time. I want to become a IT consultant and so I have taken this decision. This is going to be my first and last attempt as I would be having 3+ years of experience over the next year.. Kindly let me know how to start my preparation. Do I need to necessarily quit my job to put extra effort. If so will that be a hindrance while joining a B school.... Kindly advice.

There is no need to quit the job at this time. CAT would be in October last so you have a good 7 months in your hand. Make a schedule and follow it religiously. For first two month (2-3 hrs daily) keep your focus on learning basics in Quant and Verbal ability. Then you can move towards advance solving and maintaining speed in solving.
For Quants you can take help from Arun Sharma and Quant thread here on PG.
For VA there is nothing better thn a lot of reading.
As it is your first and last attempt, so keep on preparing for interviews and GD/WAT simultaneously.
hi i am new to this post.recently i decided to do an MBA.

1. i dont know how B school will convert my percentage marks to GPA?

2. i have 80 , 70, and 70 % marks in 10th ,+2, and graduation i wanted to know how are my academics to get top 5 school in canada. i understand gmat, eassy, recomandation, extra co-curi. experiance are important factors to determine one's admission in top B school. But i am keen to what are your views on my marks to get ADMISSION

@katiya

1. Bschools use their own method to convert percentages or GPAs in 10 to GPAs in 4. You don't need to worry about that.
2. If you are targeting foreign MBA, your 10th and 12th scores do not matter.

SAP FICO consulting is a very good career domain .. Gain as much as possible .. even if you dont do a MBA in near future .. Its worth continuing with this Job .. Learn a lot , work hard .. may be you will not need a MBA

Hi puys,

Seeking some honest advice. I am working for one of the IT biggies for the past 1 n half yrs after my b.tech...Till now i was working with a technical profile role as was trained in "LINUX & C" until when i got an internal opportunity inside my company for an HR support role...To give you an idea, its a role in the Workforce Management Group, precisely in the "Freshers Lifecycle Management" which includes

1. Intake planning for each year(e.g. how much freshers to recruit from which tier college & from which stream)
2. Onboarding & training planning(e.g. which batch to be trained in what technology & other training related stuffs)
3. Project Allocation & related co-ordinates
4. HRM related responsibilities-Fresher connect events, career guidance..etc..

In short its a blend of HR & operations role & i made it through GD & PI round...Now i have to take a call to accept the role...

pros
1. cool job profile unlike the hectic one for a technical role, which i've been doing for the last 1.5 years.
2. a bit of hope that later down the line it will cater to much better & pure HR roles
3. if i will go for an MBA after 1 or 2 years(which i am still unsure, & would also like 2 seek suggestion how advisable is it to go for an full time MBA-HR after 3-4 years of work-ex), do you think i will have an extra-edge over my peers by showing this work-ex?

cons
1. have to forget about any futuristic onsite dreams
2. job role demands to stick to it atleast 24months
3. not sure how this work-ex will be recognized & appreciated in other peer companies if i try to switch to one after 2-3 years.

expecting a prompt reply as i have to decide within 2-days...any pointers on this would be deeply appreciated...tx..
