I don't know if it's too early or too late to ask this doubt, but surely need some help.I am a OHU student for CMAT with a score of 269...Got just 1 call from GIM through XAT which I Knw will not be converted...low in CAT too.I am 3.5 yrs experinced IT guy...open cat male engg...I may be too optimistic stating this too...with the given CMAT score I remain with few colleges at hand (KJ,Sydenham,WE)...Won't be having any other chance for an MBA..n I just want to do it...Really confused if I should go with these options...
If someone can pls advice...it'll be of great help...

Hi puys,Seeking some honest advice. I am working for one of the IT biggies for the past 1 n half yrs after my b.tech...Till now i was working with a technical profile role as was trained in "LINUX & C" until when i got an internal opportunity inside my company for an HR support role...To give you an idea, its a role in the Workforce Management Group, precisely in the "Freshers Lifecycle Management" which includes1. Intake planning for each year(e.g. how much freshers to recruit from which tier college & from which stream)2. Onboarding & training planning(e.g. which batch to be trained in what technology & other training related stuffs)3. Project Allocation & related co-ordinates4. HRM related responsibilities-Fresher connect events, career guidance..etc..In short its a blend of HR & operations role & i made it through GD & PI round...Now i have to take a call to accept the role...pros1. cool job profile unlike the hectic one for a technical role, which i've been doing for the last 1.5 years.2. a bit of hope that later down the line it will cater to much better & pure HR roles3. if i will go for an MBA after 1 or 2 years(which i am still unsure, & would also like 2 seek suggestion how advisable is it to go for an full time MBA-HR after 3-4 years of work-ex), do you think i will have an extra-edge over my peers by showing this work-ex?cons1. have to forget about any futuristic onsite dreams2. job role demands to stick to it atleast 24months3. not sure how this work-ex will be recognized & appreciated in other peer companies if i try to switch to one after 2-3 years.expecting a prompt reply as i have to decide within 2-days...any pointers on this would be deeply appreciated...tx..
Hi,
It makes sense to go for this profile if you are sure about HR and i am hoping this wont be a desperate move to get out of technical field by hook or crook because if that's the case i am not sure you will like this field or not. However, if you have identified your interest and this role in HR seems interesting to you than its fine :mg: To my mind if you get into this role it can be a real good breakthrough for HR entry roles/jobs.

I think i will agree with Anchun (http://www.pagalguy.com/forums/career-discussions/why-hr-t-31122/p-1101797?page=54 )

I think if you plan to do MBA HR in next 2 years this experience will definitely help a lot, provided you go for good HR program. Moreover personally i think 3-4 years of exp can sometimes be the cause of hindrance during placements so plan accordingly.

Wish you all the best.
@cutie.pie Thank you priti for taking the time out to reply. Whatever you have pointed that makes sense. Ofcourse its not one desperate move to do away with the technical role & get into this HR role. Truth be told, I was doing pretty much fine with the technical profile as well(was the topper of my training batch, doing great with my last project, got hike 2 times in the last yr), as i never neglected my job. Its just that i am a kind of "people person"(lot many extra-curriculars & achievements during my b.tech days stand as a testimony to that), but joining IT-company happened just by chance(not by choice). I love meeting people, talking with them, motivating them. Put me among 100's of people in 1 room, i can talk n talk for an entire day.

It all boils down to a trade-off between money/growth(a glimpse of onsite chance is there in my current project & this technical expertise will be recognized better, if i choose to switch to a diff employer) or a do-what-you-love-&-love-what-you-do job. & thats what baffles me a lot as i have to give up something to get the other thing.

Would you mind clearing out one more thing whether the transition would be smooth to get a pure HR role down the line after 2-3years without an MBA? If so can i or not expect a competing remuneration what others(after an MBA-HR from tier-1 school) would be getting in the industry? Is really a stamp of a top-10 school necessary to excel in the HR field? Is there not even a single instance in the HR profession where people have proved to be winner by virtue of their sole work not with the academic background? Can't i network my way in to get into a crucial HR role, what i am aspiring for?

Guys ... I want to know one thing ... My profile is 10 th : 93.27% 12 th : 95% n grads: 69 %
I got through nmims bangalore .. but i din join it because i want to give cat a try again .... I got over 84 percentile .. QA : 95 n VA : 56 .. I belong to general category ...

Is it possible to get through any iim or any top bschools like fms,sp jain etc .. With my profile ? ( PS : I want to do MBA the following year) . I know its possible but give me realistic chances...

@Mr.Independent , read your queries, what ever I am writing below is just my advice by common sense and not experience.

I myself have always believed in DO WHAT YOU LOVE. you have clearly stated that you love interacting to people, motivating them, which means a HR guy . If you can convince your points and thoughts by story telling then you can become one of the best HR. but if you hook up to the technical edge and go onsite , (chances you may like it or hate it) , but interaction with many people and building up contacts would be less. In future if you want to do an MBA in HR , then why not lay the foundation now itself. you will have GMAT as a choice. and even if you pass out from a not sooo high fiii college , you will get a placement due to your experience and you can prove your guts by your work culture. so be yourself and think at the big picture rather than the trailer of onsite job.. Being a HR you always get to travel places..........
all the best , take it or leave it (ur choice)

with ur acads...u surely can..........for that u need good cat score...target 99+ in car/xat...n it wont be a problem for u.....hope u hv sme ECA also....

edit: for sp jain there is profile based selection also...n u got to hv good extra curricular activities and achievements in case ur entrance score is not that good
@lopamudra0303 my extra curricular activities are that i was the captain of my school cricket team n some more events in some symposiums .... 99 + is fr even for sp jain n other new iims ?

for SP jain profile based calls u dont need 99+ but new IIMs give GD/PI calls for 97+ ..now next yr that may inc further...so 99+ is always d safest zone..cz a call doesnt guarantee a convert n for schools liek IIM C, FMS, XL...the entrance scores r very imp...

Sitting idle at home after the WAT/PI is really distressing...Can you guys suggest doing something worthwhile?? I am interested in doing MBA in finance..

posting my query from another thread:

Hello,

I graduated in 2012 and have no experience, my percentages are:

10th - 80.8%
12th - 77.6%
B.E. - 61.9%

I want to know, should I aspire to study in top MBA schools like IIMs and IIFT,FMS,XLRI etc.(all A+ category schools)?
Is there any chance that I can get selected in these B Schools given i clear CAT/XAT in flying colors?

@P098 Anyone and everyone can clear anything, given that he puts enough hard work.

If you are not from commerce background, then you can learn about the Basic economic stuffs. Also, you can read books on various subjects like Imagining India by Nilekani etc.
For eco, you can have a look at the following thread:

with ur scores u can surely crack IIM C, XL, FMS if u score high in CAT....may be not with soem other IIMs which require higher acads to get thru....
