Hi people,


I have converted IMT Ghaziabad-DCP (2013-2015) Don't have any other options right now. CAT score was 95%ile this year. Now in a great dilemma whether or not should I join this course considering the huge fee (around 18 lacs including everything). I mean is IMT really worth spending this huge amount of money? How are the future prospects after studying from IMT.

The biggest confusion is should I join or go for CAT'13 (But Talso aware of the fact how unpredictable CAT is). Currently I am working with a software firm for last 8 months. 10th-79.2, 12th-71, B.E.-8.3 CGPA.
Considering my profile, could any one please suggest what would be a reasonable decision to take?

Hi friends,


I am in a serious dilemma & need some help. I am a regular engineer with average acads( 86, 89, 71 respectively). I am working in an IT major for the past 18 months now. Cat 12 was a disaster, but I have got a few calls & converted some. Is there any point in doing an MBA from tier 2 colleges(like LBSIM, NIRMA, BIM T, KJSOM). I mean is it possible that if I work hard during the next 2 year that I will be able to salvage something or is it a lost case for me.

Cat 13 is a possibility, but I don't really have too much confidence.It is the last option actually.

Some guidance would be really appreciated. I feel really lost.

Cat 2012 was a disaster . Got only 90 percentile. Want to start prep for Cat 2013 but the problem is that i am located in a site job ( Civil Engineer ) . Its from morning 8:30 to night 8:30 . Currently i planned for 4 hrs study . ( 1hr novel @night , 1hr quant , 1 hr Verbal , 1 hr Word Usage ). Could you pls suggest me further modifications in my plan to achieve success in next year ?

Am facing a dilemma and would be greatful, if people could give me their honest opinion....
I have my 10th, 12th acads1. Give 12th again in a different stream, and also take up admission at nm mumbai.
2. Reject NM-mumbai, and prepare for 12th+cat, to make it into FMS/IIFT.
3. Dont give 12th again, just join nm mumbai for now, and give cat again.

Which would be the best course of action...?

Hi I m having a little dillema, regarding mba placements if I can get into IIM C in near future, after having a talk with an IIM C guy last week,who is having avarage acds and passed from IIM C in the year 2009

My profile is like that,

X-96%(taking all the subjects)(from West Bengal state board)(School toppers)


XII-92.5%(in best of 5) and 90%(taking all the subjects)(from West Bengal State board) (school toppers)

2 govt of india and west bengal govt scholarship holder for X and XII result!

In both board(X and XII) exams having rank within top 100 in West-Bengal.



graduation(NON-ENGINEER):-Bsc in Statistics from St.Xavier's(Kolkata)(2 nd best commerce college of India after SRCC and 3 rd best Science college after St.Stephen's and Loyola as per India Today ,The Week and Out look survey) final year student .


And the only problem Starts here ,is with this low graduation marks compared to very few non engineers' and so many engineers'.....


reasons -----


1.during my 1 st semester I thought what I m doing studyn a non engineering Bsc,when I alwayz wanted to be an engineer..(had I been an engineer I m sure again I would topped the class..but my bad).....after having a decent rank in engineering in WBJEE...so decided to leave college and join any of the IIT coaching...But as I lost my father 14 years ago,my mom didnt want to take risk....so I got frustrated as I had not got adequate coaching for IIT-JEE again......and just coz of this frustration my 1 st year's 2 nd semester plunked..got only 57%..:(


2.then suddenly coz of that my gf had broken up with me and coz of being a emotional touchy boy again I got frustrated and got only 58 % in Semester III ...and coz of these kind of low marks in only 2 exams in life my overall grad CGPA...has become a disaster comapred to my excellent X and XII


My current CGPA-6.3/10(till 4 th semester)..equivalent %age-58.... got 65% in Semester -V,so some hopes there still... now 4 Arrear papers of previous semesters to be cleared with final semester(VI)....


expecting to make around 62%- 64% (cgpa-6.8-7/10)AT THE END OF GRAD.


Now I can never make 80+ in grad anymore even if I get full marks (which is impossible) in rest of the papers


Extra Academics :-- This is pretty well though...It includes

Summer internship @Mahindra Finance when i was in my 2 nd year.

Campus ambassador of IIT KGP's Space Technology Society since summer 2012,2 time district champion in recitation in West-Bengal ,NTSE scholar,Was a representative of clg in back to back Global Entrepreneurship summit @IIT KGP during my clg's 1 st and 2 nd year,got more than 35 prizes from school for academic and non academic purposes every year in the whole school life ..and many more...


Now the only ray of hope is I m having a internship of 2 months followed by a job @Pricewaterhouses Coopers(PwC) from my final year campus placement...offer letter is yet to be dispatched..so also finding other jobs.....hoping to join a Job just after finishing my graduation in july-august 2013....


Now can the experienced Puyz plz suggest me that if I get into into one of the top 4 IIMs(ABCL) with above prfl,extra acds and cat percentile,WAT,PI in near future then will be any problem during placements???can my non engineer tag save me from not having 80% in grad??? ...then what can be the effect during placements in those IIMs only and only for my grad(not being able to make 80+ in grad too and not being a topper in grad too) even I can make it to TOP 20 in the MBA class of IIM ?


P.S-this one thing is haunting me during my CAT prep....I m getting afraid.....just for that "small but not small for IIMs" matter

...thats why after having too much hard work ..I ended up my CAT 2012 with OA-80 with QA-94 and VA-69... Honestly could not focus properly....
though I m confident I can reach that 99.xx..in near future after having some handful work exp after grad.....I m planning to give CAT 2014 and 2015.....

So plz help me regarding this..and also help me out to compensate not having 80 in grad how can I improve my prfl..as I want to do finance from IIM C....m i eligible to get the niche profiles during placement IN BIG giants??? (obviously when I will be able to make it to C)...
Honestly expecting some suggestion regarding this above dillema....

Guys, I am still an aspirant. I am working with TCS for the past 2+ years. I studied in a top college in Bangalore and not exactly what they call a "High-scorer" in 10th, 12th and Grad. Still my acads are decent. I am interested in Finance as a Major. But I keep hearing rumors that good companies look mainly into Company and Grad Institute while selecting a student for Summers. How true is this? Even if I get into a good college, will I end up interning with a below-average company because of these criteria?

Don't make placement as the only factor to decide between colleges.


Do a proper comparative analysis as per the points I am listing below -


1. Average Pkg and Median Pkg - Apart from the Average, Median Figure is very important. Sometimes, because of few High Paying Companies, the average can go up. So, look at the Median Figure as well.


2. Number of Companies coming for Placement.


3. Roles & Profiles Offered by the Companies.


4. Total Fees for 2 Years (Including everything)


5. Ranking - Now, most of the Rankings are biased. So, a proper look at some 5/6 Rankings can help you generalize the Ranking.


6. Faculty - Try going through the Profiles of the Faculty on the College Website.


7. Alumni Base


And Finally the most Important Point -


Don't go for a college just for the Avg Pkg or Brand. Check if that college satisfies your needs or not.

e.g You want to do MBA in Marketing. There is a College X that has a better placements than College Y but their placements are mainly IT Driven. And College Y has a bit lower average but many marketing companies visit the college. So, in that case - Go for "Y".Hope this Helps.

as per my qualifications ppls suggest me to go for MBA in operations, supply chain ,logistics.


i can afford Internation-MBA through GMAT .


As am a TATA employee i have option for MBA through TAS ,through GMAT.


am bit confused whether to prepare for GMAT as i can get options of TAS and INTERNATIONAL -MBA or to prepare for CAT targeting b-schools like IIM'S,NITIE ,SIOM etc...

. PLEASE GUIDE ME where should i put my efforts in CAT preparation or GMAT preparation ,so as to get maximum benefit. :)

Hi Puys. I am a fresher. My profile is:10th: 86%, 12th: 81%, BE: 62%.I have appeared only for SNAP and CMAT this time, got calls from SIBM-P and SCMHRD and converted SCMHRD, waitlisted 45 at SIBM-P (hoping for a convert). These are the only two colleges I have in hand. I would like to have some suggestions/views from you that should I join SIBM this year or give an another shot to CAT next season? I am interested in Mkt. I know that as per my profile, chances of getting calls from top IIMs are very bleak/NO.Your valuable suggestions are most welcome.

Confused between FORE, LBSIM and SIMS Pune....SIMS and LBSIM seem to be pretty much at the same level with respect to everything and the only negative point about FORE is its fee. I am a fresher and have 91.76 in CAT. Can't afford to give it again next year as i have already dropped a year so have to take admission this year at any cost. Still left with TAPMI and XIMB-RM results. Please suggest.

with 44 months of work ex , i was rejected in xlri BM and HR interviews this year -97,63 pcile.

next year i will have 56 month exp in a fortune 100 mfg company. i am in a fix shall i prepare for CAT once more.
last year i was scoring arounf 90-95 in mock cats but got 88 only in finals...
please advice.. need serious help guys , please help.

Hi puys....what I am going to ask should be asked before GDPI process but still for satisfaction I m going to ask
My profile is
X - 80.6 XII - 77.4 BE 9.42
Workex - 43 months (As on Mar 2013) in oil PSU with 10 LPA
Job profile is quite boring and full of monotony....The annual growth rate of package is abt 8-9%

But I have been denied 1st promotion recently due to boss's adverse remarks...and in 4th yr of job I am completely frustrated

CAT 2012- 99.54 - Calls from IIM L, S, 6 new IIMs, NITIE, SJMSOM

Also call from ISB GMAT 720- Straight reject after interview

I have had decent interviews in all colleges..However L (and hence 6 new IIMs) was avg

Although if I get L, NITIE, SJMSOM I will surely join but what should be my take on IIM S and 6 new IIMs....Kindly guide me considering the fact though I m earning 10 LPA now my growth and job profile wud be quite stagnant in PSU job..................P.S. After investing 2 years and ~12 LPA in a college it makes sense to earn atleast 14 LPA in starting..........But i m ready to compromise on that till about 10 LPA....
