Hi...i have a combined experience of 2yrs in IT and intellectual property research domain.

X:82

XII:78

B.Tech:73

CAT'12: 83 percentile

I have converted NIRMA and awaiting KJSomaiya. I want to pursue MBA in marketing+information management and want to be a management consultant.Considering my experience and CAT percentile please suggest

i) if I should join NIRMA or KJSom(if converted), OR

ii) if I should retake CAT 2013 in order to try and get better score. In this case i am worried if waiting for one more year would have any effect on placements or future career

iii)Also, if in my consulting career being from a college like NIRMA would be good in terms of brand value, career growth as compared to some of the colleges which are higher in rankings (other than IIMs).

Please give your valuable suggestions as I am unable to decide.

It all depends on how do you justify during the Interviews about your work-ex in family business.

All the Best.. !!

After three unsuccessful attempts and 34 months work exp, is it worth going for one more attempt? I have started doubting my ability 😞 13 hours per day is consumed in travelling to office and job. It is really difficult to get even 1 hour to study. What do you people suggest me?

Hello Friends,

I have a work experience of 10.5 months in the core company and i ll be completing a year this June. The dilemma is that with the kind of work i am doing it is not possible to join any kind of coaching classes because of the odd timings (shifts) and i have to work on Sundays as well sometimes. I am planning to appear for CAT 2013.Till date,I have practiced some of the basic books to improve my aptitude. 10th :84% 12th :67% B tech :64.5% The dilemma is should I leave the job and then join the coaching in July and appear for CAT on 10th November which means I get 3-4 months time for adequate preparation.

Your suggestions would really be very meaningful to me at this stage .

Regards,
Ayu

  • Should I leave the job in july and prepare for 3 months
  • Should I stick to the job and do self study in whatever time i get

Hi All,

My profile:

Female, engineer, 2 years experience in IT
10th- 93%, 12th - 85% (both CBSE), engg - 82%

It has been my dream ever since my engg days to join IIM Bangalore. I am a native of Bangalore and a lot of my relatives live very close to the campus. I also pass it several times a week.

In graduated in 2010 and have given CAT only twice. The first time, in 2009, I had gotten placed and was not at all serious and got a %ile in the 80s.

In 2011, I thought of giving CAT, but felt my job was too hectic, and so didn't.

In 2012, I realized that I HAD to do something about it, so I quit my job when I completed 24 months (in June 2012), stayed at home and prepared.

I am extremely strong in Verbal (have scored 99%+ in many mocks), so my strategy was to cross 90% in Sec1 and maximize my score in Sec2.

On the day of CAT, I attempted 17 questions in Sec1. But, in Sec2, I attempted around 27 questions correctly. Then, I had one last LR set where I got stuck. Here, I committed the biggest blunder. I had already made up my mind to attempt all 30 questions, so I blindly marked answers for those 3 questions as the time ended. (Have mentally kicked myself any number of times for this.)

When the results came, I had Sec1 92.xx, Sec2 95.xx and OA 96.xx.

No IIM Calls.

However, I did get 99.63%ile in XAT and have converted XLRI (BM).

Now, XLRI was never my dream college. Jharkhand is extremely far away. In my house , it's just me, my Dad and my younger bro, so don't want to leave them and go there.

What should I do?

Find a job and give one last shot at IIM B (do I even have a chance) or take XLRI?

I am already 24 years old and a girl besides (and facing those pressures to settle down). Will I be too old?

But I am afraid that IIMB will haunt me for the rest of my life. I feel crushed when I pass it. I feel crushed when I hear of somebody else getting in.

Please help me! What should I do?

Edit: I have a good chance of getting into JBIMS too (with low fees and relatively close to home, which my dad strongly prefers and is very much against giving these exams again).

I would be happy with that, except that I'm worried that the regret of not getting into IIMB will be there forever. Is this so? Can I get over this?

Hello guys...

I had taken a year off after I graduated in 2012.. Got 94.93 in Cat 2011...
Wrote Cat again this year and got 98.05.. But no decent converts..
I dont want to work in d it sector doing coding all day.. I have got some job offers from some govt. institutes and public sector banks.. But d posts offered r not dat gud.. I have written ssc cgl tier 1 and i am expecting a good score in that.. I am pretty confident of securing an interview post through that..
I am also inclined towards IAS and a job thru cgl will be a step forward in that direction.. Should i take up my current job and risk my cgl tier 2 prep(i only want an interview post) or shud i wait and prepare for tier 2.. This means risking my future mba hopes in case i decide to write cat again..
Suggestions please Puys!!!!πŸ˜ƒ

Another CAT-dejected student, as I am . Just seeking for an honest advice. My scores and profile goes as follows:CAT:88.xx

SNAP: 96.xx

NMAT: 200IIFT: 42 marks

X: 88

XII: 81

GRAD(B.tech): 71

But the thing is I do not have a job right now. So would taking a clean drop for CAT be a wise decision or I should look up for a job ? Is sitting and preparing solely for CAT a big sin ?? Please suggest..😠

@ashusinghvi

I am 27..and presently working in a psu bank...since 2 yrs...worked in it for 1 yr....how advisable will it be for me to aim for an mba next year...i'll be 28 and 4 yrs of workex..will it be an impediment for me to get placed in better cos given my age and workex...i have a decent academic reocrd and have got xlri calls last 2 yrs...coudnt convert though...i have been inclined towards mba since my graduation...somehow havent been able to make it to my dream colleges...my present work profile and location makes it even important for me to go for higher studies since i have always wanted to move into consulting/analytics profiles...advice would be helpful

An experience of atleast 3 years is always desirable both for the colleges as well as for employers, as it ensures that you have some view of the general market and industry. Aged at 28 should not be a major hurdle for your employment as you would have many mates around the same age. Although you might need to explain the gaps, if any.
Another advise would be that in addition for looking for dream colleges, its important to look for the right fit colleges i.e( who's direction aligns with your career goals). Sometimes students just go for the big names and rankings, later realizing that the directions that those colleges pursue do not align with their personal inclinations. So look for the right fit. Hope this helps

I have a 7.9 years of experience in IT and now I feel I should go for a MBA.

I have two choices -

a) Go for a regular 2 year course
b) Go for a 1 year/exec MBA course.

While the first one seems not a very good option with such work ex, what are the good institutes I can go for 1 year/exec MBA? Also I do not have much in extra curricular or a strong acads to back up with, so is it worth a shot?

Also, are the 1 year/exec MBA courses coupled with placements too?

Please help.
