hey senior puys, help me with this out i had scored 60 in cat and this was my second attempt in mat in had scored 90 i want to know what difference would it make to my carrier(i would persue job) in long run, if i join mat college and not a reputed college under cat?
it doesn't make a lot of difference. In the end its you going who is to witness your destiny.so shape it up in your way.every good manager need not be a cat topper.or a B school student.you can sketch you career from the street to the big corporate.there are plenty of examples of such people. don't you want to be your story different or just like those 100 percentilers who get two days of limelight and then vanish into thin air. your attitude to your personal as well as professional life that is the main factor.

hi dude.... may be i am not correct person to answer this question....but still i would like to pen down some thoughts... as far as my point of concerned it makes a lot of difference....i am telling you reasons.. 1.)studying with best minds of this nation will make you feel different... 2.)studying in top college is not only about placements...or reputation...it's all about learning...why you wanna do MBA...just for the sake of high salary???or you really wanna learn management????or may be both... 3.)placements.. 4.)how you wanna see yourself in future..say after 5 years?????? 5.)what's your future plans??your dream, ambition???and how you planned to achieve them???/ -if you are ready to put 1 more year...ready to take pressure..not afraid of failure...willing to take risk...ready to put everything...then go cat-12 here most important question is are you ready to give 100% for 1 more year....
ask yourself then you will get answer by yourself...
p.s.-dude you won't be in a pathetic condition like me...it is an planned gamble..if you won...you will be 10 years ahead of rest of the world...and if you loose you will only loose 20000rs....and i am taking this risk...
p.p.s.-anybody may differ on any of these points but this is my point o view...kindly respect that and don't question that...
I gave my second attempt for CAT in 2011.......couldnt score well.....Gave mat as well and secured 82%tile........I got selected in NIILM-CMS and IMS Ghaziabad........but iam not that satisfied to invest worth huge amount of 10 lakhs in these coljs and getting placed around 3.5 to 4 lacs job...chalo job is also secondary but this was not my dream, i always dreamt of studying in really gud b schools which stand a place among the bests and develop myself as an individual.........Should i join them or give cat again this year ????? what would be the good desicion ?????
I already spent time doing nothing after my graduation from april 2011..........and now again one more year for cat.????? though i want to give a try again with best preparation...even a best student bounded with some situations and responsibilities thinks twice before keeping his career at risk......this is what iam going through right now 😞 ...........please help what should i do ????
I opted out of the campus interviews of my college in my final year because I thought I was going to make it to one of the best bschools that year. It was CAT 2010. I managed to get only 88 %ile and didn't make it to the bschools I was looking for. I decided to sit for one year home and prepare myself again for the exams and this time in CAT 2011, the results were worse, and I couldn't do well in other exams like XAT, SNAP and NMAT too.
Now that I have understood that I have lost one full year and did nothing and I can't head towards the IT companies I willingly rejected because I hardly remember anything from the IT subjects in my course, not in a situation to apply for off campussing, because in the interviews, those IT questions will come up only. I am going to write the bank po exam in march, but then again if I get selected they will recruit from Jan 2013, and meantime I will have to sit at home only.
I wanted to work in a BPO meantime, but my friends in bschools are telling me not to go for them because they don't add up points as work ex and I know that very well.
What should I do now? I know I am screwed as hell.
I have a serious problem in my life. ..................................................................... What should I do now? I know I am screwed as hell.
Hey your story is same that of mine with only one difference that I am 2011 passed out....... I can understand your feelings well : But there is one way thing you can do : apply for Mah-CET ! Odds: Very few seats, one month left for exam, speed-based exam so very high level of competition Pros: ROI of colleges is good w.r.t Kolkata MBA colleges(you know what I am speaking of),one month is enough if you go through R.S.Aggarwal... Again Feb-MAT is there..........
I hope you remain calm & cool because it is make or break situation in your(read our) life..

Here is my screwed up story.. any advise is welcome.
Passed out in 2007 (Grads:60 from Pune, 12th: 81, 10th:80). Joined an IT company the same year.. Worked for around 2 years.. and STILL WORKING. Worked for total 4.5 years now.. Current package: 5.5 L
Gave CAT this year.. Got a pathetic 87.5 percentile.. in GMAT, I got 660. Questions/dillemas: 1. Get into a Tier 2 BSchoold with the CAT score (like TAPMI whose app. is still open) 2. Retake the GMAT and re-apply to ISB. I already applied to ISB but was rejected. I want to get rid of the IT Programmer Tag on my head.. and I want to go into FINANCE.
Hello. Please help me out..!!! I am planning to do an MBA, m still in my final year. I wrote CAT 2011 just to see how the exam is like...no preparation..I got an OA of 84.3%..
I am confident that if i prepare properly, i can ace the test.. but the problem is that i heard that IIMs are looking at the marks scored in our boards..i have a doubt if i ll get a call with my profile..i dont want to waste one full year of preparation for something in which there are no hopes of getting an admission..
P.S: i got placed in IBM.. im planning to take up the job and prepare side by side.. Please Let me know if i have any chances of getting a call from the Top management institutes with this profile.. 😞
it is you to decide after all. if u have a job, its good.if not get one, go for CAT next year. Being successful at job has nothing to do with where are you doing mba.managers don't require to solve quantum physics or submit research papers. a manager is expected to best utilize the company resources, to achieve the ends meet.In sales or marketing which i am exposed to after doing b.tech.you need to develop yourself everyday.you need to learn your product well.give demo to your channel partners.design your marketing & promotion plans well in advance.penetrate your existing markets.create new markets.search out for more hubs.analyse the defaults your products has, clear the bottlenecks with admin, finance , production and accounts teams.ensure in time delivery.don't loose the customers aw well as the employers confidence at any cost.even if the product has little credibility and doesn't sell well what do two years of mba do? frankly i don't know.well I want to do MBA for the hunger of learning.learning different practices in marketing admin folled acrsoss the globe.so that i can implement the same.and there is more?any schoolw hich i can do this is fine for me.I am not looking for iim and waste my time.for any buisness and many manager time is always less.and no matter how hard you try it keeps out slipping from your hands.

I am an SAP Administrator my question is if technical people like me lets say a network administrator or a unix or server administrator has a good chance at getting in to Top B schools like IIm's or ISB?
I mean with a profile like mine i am a technical consultant 7 years work exp and have no managerial experience.

Hey I am also 2011 pass out. I appeared in CAT 2010 when I was in my final year and then again in 2011 after sitting home for a few months.
Problem is I can't apply to MAH CET because I guess it's happening on 11th March and I have the bank po exam on that very day.
And I don' want to appear in MAT, can't give reasons but I prefer other exams over it.
Seems I will have to apply for cts off campussing, only option left.

PS: I am an aspirant like you and no expert. SO read at your own risk. My friends, mocks are not good indicators of the real thing. First they have less students and its nothing compared to D day. So if you tell me that you were getting 99+ in all the mocks and then you got a 78+, you should be disappointed. 2 years workex is good and you can try the GMAT. Get a 700+ score and try for a good International School/ISB. Word of caution: You should have an awesome or just below awesome profile to make it into ISB with 2 years workex. Build on your profile this one year. By the time you apply you will have 3 years workex. For the CAT, if you can get 99+ in your mocks(the TIME mocks), nothing can stop you from a 95+ in the real thing. The reason is simple, you have left less than 1% room for luck. All the best for whatever you do. Cheers.
In my sisters engineering college a BPO organisation named Sutherland Global is coming to their campus offering a technical support profile job. She is in a dilemma whether too attend or not. She is doing Btech in electrical engineering with decent acads. But she doesnt want to go into the electrical engineering line but want to enter in IT.While her college being not so old campus placement situation is quiet bleak. Please suggest what to do. Dont have to be diplomatic.Be BLUNT. THANK you .
I have a few questions to ask. So, i'll try to put all of them in this post. But before that, i'd brief you all a bit about my background.
I'm studying Statistics from University of Delhi. I would be graduating this may. Since not many companies visit our college for statistics, i have to rely on off campus placements. I'd be preparing again for CAT 2012. I don't want to sit at home for 6 months while preparing for CAT. Instead i want to take up a decent job and prepare for CAT with that. So here's a list of questions i have:
1) When does Off Campus placements start? 2) Where do students of statistics fit in all the companies? (Even the HRs are not aware of this) 3) What kind of companies should I target? Please name them. It would be so much helpful. 4) What kind of roles should i target? 5) Where do we fit in companies(departments)? I'll target those departments.
I don't want to do a clerical job. I'll prefer joining a start up and put in a lot of hard work.
I would love if senior puys give their valuable suggestions.
I have done my BBA 2010 pass out. Currently my joining in a bank is on hold for 2-3 months. The thing is , I won't carry on my bank(Operations + Sales) job with only a BBA , plus some NSE modules. I need something 'substantial' on my profile. I am okay if my MBA takes a back seat for 3-4 years. CAT will be a annual ritual though.
Following are the courses (Correspondence Mode) from which I will be choosing to do with my job. 1. ICWA 2. MA 3. C.S.
Now , I need to know is that whether the above courses if done side by side with my job , will that be helpful in 'growing in a bank ' ?
Is there any growth in bank of people who have done ICWA/MA/CS ? P.S - I do not have any specific aim of doing cost accounting , or some PG course on Eco etc. I am open to every thing under the moon & stars right now.
Any other avenue apart from the above mentioned will be welcomed 😃
