I have a few questions to ask. So, i'll try to put all of them in this post. But before that, i'd brief you all a bit about my background.
I'm studying Statistics from University of Delhi. I would be graduating this may. Since not many companies visit our college for statistics, i have to rely on off campus placements. I'd be preparing again for CAT 2012. I don't want to sit at home for 6 months while preparing for CAT. Instead i want to take up a decent job and prepare for CAT with that. So here's a list of questions i have:
1) When does Off Campus placements start? 2) Where do students of statistics fit in all the companies? (Even the HRs are not aware of this) 3) What kind of companies should I target? Please name them. It would be so much helpful. 4) What kind of roles should i target? 5) Where do we fit in companies(departments)? I'll target those departments.
I don't want to do a clerical job. I'll prefer joining a start up and put in a lot of hard work.
I would love if senior puys give their valuable suggestions.

Hi, Firstly, Try to get an idea as to the kind of companies that hire from the campuses for Stat people?(domain/profile etc)Try finding like minded companies in this space. Secondly, from whatever little experience I have, trying in a few KPO's would not be a bad choice. I have seen many Math(Hons) people in Kpo's working in all domains including finance.
Try googling tools like SAS , a lot of work is done on it.(You would appreciate it better since you a stat student) The profile these companies offer to undergrads are typically the analyst ones.

I have done my BBA 2010 pass out. Currently my joining in a bank is on hold for 2-3 months. The thing is , I won't carry on my bank(Operations + Sales) job with only a BBA , plus some NSE modules. I need something 'substantial' on my profile. I am okay if my MBA takes a back seat for 3-4 years. CAT will be a annual ritual though.
Following are the courses (Correspondence Mode) from which I will be choosing to do with my job. 1. ICWA 2. MA 3. C.S.
Now , I need to know is that whether the above courses if done side by side with my job , will that be helpful in 'growing in a bank ' ?
Is there any growth in bank of people who have done ICWA/MA/CS ? P.S - I do not have any specific aim of doing cost accounting , or some PG course on Eco etc. I am open to every thing under the moon & stars right now.
Any other avenue apart from the above mentioned will be welcomed :)
If you are looking a growth in bank job then go for ICWA it will fetch u growth. CS also u can opt but its different (full of law related)..
Can some one help me out?? My CAT exam didnt go well this year and I am not in a position to decide what to do. I have two years of Work exp now and I want to switch over my career. I am working in a softwre firm and i want to move towards analytics firms. I already started to try for companies like MUsigma but couldnt make it. What should i do.? After some research i found some of the acadamies are providing analytics course for some 30 k and help us in getting placed. Do i really have to take a chance like that ? IS it possible to switch over from IT TO analytics without MBA ??? If so , can you please throw some light on it.

The thing is that my TY exams will get over by march end and i'l be free from April till CAT exam.. apart from preparing for CAT, I wish to do a summer internship. which firms should i apply to? any idea which firms/companies offer summer internships for commerce students? also, will it increase the value of my CV? If not internship, what else can be done and from where? *help!!*

See, you have to be clear what is your interest i.e, Do you like numbers , do you like interacting with people , You like a/c's or economics , do you want to be a linguistic , do you want to serve the society or you want to sit at home & prepare for CAT etc / Bank PO or complete certain levels of ICWA/CS/CFA etc ?
Every thing mentioned above has it's own pros & cons. You must first do a SWAT Analysis. Prepare a resume.
Take out some time & equate your self with what your interests are ?

I am confident that if i prepare properly, i can ace the test.. but the problem is that i heard that IIMs are looking at the marks scored in our boards..i have a doubt if i ll get a call with my profile..i dont want to waste one full year of preparation for something in which there are no hopes of getting an admission..
P.S: i got placed in IBM.. im planning to take up the job and prepare side by side.. Please Let me know if i have any chances of getting a call from the Top management institutes with this profile.. 😞

You can do Diploma in Banking and Finance from IIBF or some NCFM certificates. Also, work for some NGO. It will do good to your profile and to the society.

raj dude...don't worry you have a great profile...i must say... defination of top management institutes can differ between us as for me they are top-15 of PG ranking... time has changed earlier you talk about top mang institutes of IIM there were one of the same thing... but now you have-IIFT,NMIMS,SIBM-P,MDI,TISS,XLRI,NITIE...all these have very high weightage of there own respective exam.... and now you have job then you secure dude...go for the job prepare side by side take your chances... you are in a far better condition than me...or many other thousands of aspirants... hey puys help me out with this i am appearing for gd/pi of icfai on 18th of march. I had herd that all icfai institutes other than Hyderabad campus does not provide degree moreover those institutes are not recognized by AICTE. My question is, what difference could it make if i join a institute that is not recognized by AICTE and is worth to join Hyderabad as the batch is enormous in size?

In my sisters engineering college a BPO organisation named Sutherland Global is coming to their campus offering a technical support profile job. She is in a dilemma whether too attend or not. She is doing Btech in electrical engineering with decent acads.But she doesnt want to go into the electrical engineering line but want to enter in IT.While her college being not so old campus placement situation is quiet bleak. Please suggest what to do. Dont have to be diplomatic.Be BLUNT. THANK you .
she can attend the interview process.i had myself attended many BPO interviews got selected, but never joined, as there is no career to make out of it.its better she starts preparing for gate if her core subject is the area of interest, as NTPC and other giants are coonsidering gate score for recruitment. otherwise apply to infosys, TCS and hordes of other IT companies.IF her acads are just more than 65%, but as you say she is good,maybe (70-85).she will get calls for interview from all these IT companies.for all IT companies you will have to be good at reasoning and puzzles and aptitude.2 weeks of solid preparation will be enough.also register at freshersworld.com
