I am an Engineer, 2012 Batch pass out. As per the age old custom, I got into a reputed software firm. I realised I did not want to base my life as a developer and immediately got out of the firm after a year of work experience. Now Happily quit the job, and studying for MBA exams - CAT and GMAT 😁
Now here is the dilemma. I am from a family of doctors who have their successful private well-to-do established institutes in Bangalore. I have now collaborated with them and have taken up the role of business developer as my pre MBA goal. I will be working on a short term project in health care industry, pre MBA to present in my MBA essay. However, I do need to be very efficient and credible to handle this project. Hence I am looking for short term/long term courses - maybe finance related, Marketing related or any business development related courses which would help me understand the working of any industry and help raise the profits of the institute and establish a benchmark on it own. However, I am not targeting only for health care but I would rather plunge into many other industries and help with the business solutions. Again for this, I need credibility beyond the Engineer tag.
As I am entirely new to this area, I would want help in deciding the right course related to Finance, Marketing or anything related to pre MBA courses that would help me in :
1.) Project in Health care and other industries
2.) Help me find a better job pre MBA (Probably investment banking or any other financial sector) - I am in no hurry to jump into MBA course right away.
3.) A good story for MBA essay where my efforts really mattered to the institute unlike the corporate software firm (which was like an ocean)
PS - Money and Time for the courses will not matter for me.
As a part of my research I found these courses to be interesting. If I can go about it, how should I? Is it really worth? Please advise.
I am new to pagalguy, so just wanted to share my personal dilemma question.
Actually, in 2011 I had taken admission in MBA(Regular) in Delhi Global Institute of Management which was at that time a new college under GGSIPU . It is located at Jasana , Faridabad.
Then last November suddenly, our college lost its affiliation of GGSIPU.
We had a case against this in High Court of Delhi, but the decision of the court was that we will be getting degree from MDU(Maharishi Dayanand University, Rohtak) jst cz our college is located in Haryana and GGSIPU is the state level university.
Then we again filed a case against university(ggsipu) as well as high court's decision in Supreme Court . But now at present moment this case has been put on hold for the next 8 months.
And now our college has started taking internals for the 3rd sem and is saying that for the 4th sem 75% attendance will be given preference. But I am doing a job now as I gave up with the hope of getting any degree this year, so I thought that doing a job would be much beneficial for me rather than sitting at home and just waiting for the decision of the court.
But now I am in gr8 dilemma that what to do since I have also given them the entire fees for the program which was around 2 lakhs so its a gr8 challenge in front of me. After having my talk to the chirman of the college, he told me either to chose job or study.
But I can't leave my job and my study as well.
So my question is that is it worth doing MBA from MDU? Or should I go for another mba(correspondence) program from a better institute (lyk AIMA)?
Please help me out asap, I am in gr8 confusion yr..😟

I am an electrical engineering final year student in a good college of bangalore. I want to enter into a tier 1 mba program.
My acads-
10 th- 92
12 th- 76
B.E.- 7.8 (coverted to 72 percent)
I have not done any internships (no connections), no major projects (not much interested in my branch, i will do my final year project though), no extra-curricular activities.
I can play guitar ( i don't know how to put that in my cv), I have genuine interest in finance, but i do not have any credentials to boast about in my resume. My final year just started so i have 4 months with minimal academic pressure.
This lack of impressive cv makes me depressed and i am not able to put much effort into studies. Please suggest something that i can still do with the time i have (final year) apart from preparing for cat, any help is appreciated.
I am an engineer, appearing for my CAT the second time over.
Trouble is, I have been given conflicting views about ROI in an MBA. Some people say that the high fees does not matter in the long run, others say that an Education Loan is a huge burden when you have started earning.
I have a keen fascination towards advertisement and whenever I come across some of many TVC or banners, numerous ideas about making it more presentable and customer needs driven flashes my mind. I feel that some TVC which I come across are not aligned to the customer need and I can certainly add a new and required dimension, making it more appealing and tempting to the target audience.
It took me 1 year of my IT professional career to figure out where my interest lies and another of it to finally find the courage to take a step towards reaching it. I am actually now finding myself in a position to try my luck; I know I am a bit late for this but as the proverb goes "better late than never "?. I would like to join any ad agency which could employ me with a role of account planner or similar.
I am now standing with more than 2 years of IT work ex and counting, preparing alongside for the management exams. The past few days has been very chaotic as I was constantly hovering between different paths lying ahead and unsure which one to choose.
Can someone throw some light :
1. I am thinking of applying to any ad agency for account planner roles. How fruitful this step is at this point of time. What you will suggest I should do?
2. Even if I join any ad agency, what are the growth prospects from here on in terms of my role and pay scale?
3. How my MBA in marketing will shape this dream of landing as an account planner in ad agency? Should I go for an MBA and then take up this role or should I start my career in any ad agency and climb up from here? What difference these two paths will make?
4. How hard it is to be employed in an ad agency if you are not graduating from MICA and SIMC and for that matter any other PR/AD business schools?
I have read an article on pagalguy long ago about account planning. That article was very informative for advertisement enthusiast like me.
Also what really motivated me to take this kind of step is this blog. It may sound foolish and stupid to be inspired by any random blog but it tightly embraces me with the notion that if this guy can break free why cant I...
I'l b giving CAT this year. I have done engg in 2012 and have 8 mnths of work-ex in my family business which is not related to my field of education. I wanted to know which B-schools consider Family Business as work-ex for PGDM course? Plz reply seniors!!
Which is better - Scale 2 IT officer from IBPS RRB or Scale 1 PO from IBPS CWE.My consideration is the job progression(ability to switch to private sector) and the facilities provided.
When we mention our extra curricular activities in IIMs form at later stages how long past can we go? Can we mention our activities at school level , If yes then from which class ?
I received a job offer yesterday, and have to start next week with an Indian company.
Today, I receieved a call for an interview for a 3 month internship at an American company (MNC). I don't know if I should attend the interview or not since I don't know if i am taking this internship. The internship pays as much as the job though.
But I have no gurantee that I will be hired once it is over. It also does not provide transport whereas the job does.
I'm confused! Please help. I have no idea how the worplace environment etc is in either.
My name is B.V.RAVINDRA PRASAD REDDY, completed b.tech in 2012 in Electronics and Communication Engineering from JNTU - Hyderabad with 73.78%. I completed my SSC (X class)in 2004 with 84.50% and joined Intermediate in BIOLOGY - PHYSICS - CHEMISTRY (Bi.P.C) stream and completed it with 79.50 % in the year 2006.
Later I joined Bachelor of science (B.Sc) in Biochemistry , chemistry , botany specialization. Due to my financial conditions at that time, after the completion of my first year, I discontinued it in 2007 and joined in a coaching program to change to MATHS -PHYSICS -CHEMISTRY (M.P.C). I took maths exams of all 4 papers (2 from 1st year and 2 from 2nd year)in 2008 march[ The students who completed Bi.P.C in Intermediate can join engineering courses by clearing all 4 mathematics exams in ANDHRA PRADESH] and cleared with 75% and joined in Engineering in the year 2008. So I have 2 years of gap between 2006-2008 .After completion of my B.tech in 2012 and I have been searching for a job till today but I could not get a job .One more year got down.
With this totally I have 3 years of gap during my academics. When I decided to take CAT this year ,it was the month of august. There was less time to prepare for CAT-2013.so I have joined in M,tech (VLSI).It will be completed by june-2015.The admission process of b-schools also may take upto june-2015 for CAT-2014.The main reason for deciding to take CAT is ,I want to be in corporate sector. But with M.tech there are fewer options in corporate sector I want to take CAT in 2014.I will be in pre -final year of my master's course at the time of CAT-2014.
Please provide answers for the following questions..
1. Am I eligible to take CAT or not?
2. Will the gap in my academic years lead to any problems in B-school admission procedure?
3. I want to study MBA in top-50 B-schools in India. So is there any problem to get an admission with this gap profile?
Is it a good career option for me to do MBA after M,tech? Please guide me in this juncture.
Please clarify my doubts sir/madam. The answers that you will provide are very useful to me.
