Good morning 2 all ,

My name is B.V.RAVINDRA PRASAD REDDY, completed b.tech in 2012 in Electronics and Communication Engineering from JNTU - Hyderabad with 73.78%. I completed my SSC (X class)in 2004 with 84.50% and joined Intermediate in BIOLOGY - PHYSICS - CHEMISTRY (Bi.P.C) stream and completed it with 79.50 % in the year 2006.

Later I joined Bachelor of science (B.Sc) in Biochemistry , chemistry , botany specialization. Due to my financial conditions at that time, after the completion of my first year, I discontinued it in 2007 and joined in a coaching program to change to MATHS -PHYSICS -CHEMISTRY (M.P.C). I took maths exams of all 4 papers (2 from 1st year and 2 from 2nd year)in 2008 march[ The students who completed Bi.P.C in Intermediate can join engineering courses by clearing all 4 mathematics exams in ANDHRA PRADESH] and cleared with 75% and joined in Engineering in the year 2008. So I have 2 years of gap between 2006-2008 .After completion of my B.tech in 2012 and I have been searching for a job till today but I could not get a job .One more year got down.

With this totally I have 3 years of gap during my academics. When I decided to take CAT this year ,it was the month of august. There was less time to prepare for CAT-2013.so I have joined in M,tech (VLSI).It will be completed by june-2015.The admission process of b-schools also may take upto june-2015 for CAT-2014.The main reason for deciding to take CAT is ,I want to be in corporate sector. But with M.tech there are fewer options in corporate sector I want to take CAT in 2014.I will be in pre -final year of my master's course at the time of CAT-2014.

Please provide answers for the following questions..

1. Am I eligible to take CAT or not?

2. Will the gap in my academic years lead to any problems in B-school admission procedure?

3. I want to study MBA in top-50 B-schools in India. So is there any problem to get an admission with this gap profile?

Is it a good career option for me to do MBA after M,tech? Please guide me in this juncture.

Please clarify my doubts . The answers that you will provide are very useful to me.

Hello all, i have been working in the USA as software developer for last 8.5 years in fortune 500 companies..My pay package is 100k+(which is normal for 8.5 yrs experience)..I am wondering if it will be worth to go to India to do 1-yr mba degree at any institute? The thing is i am 32 yrs old with no professional experience in finance, so specializing in Finance will not help..Will specializing in IT be any good? what will be the expected pay package even from the best schools? Is it worth it.?

Hello Friends.. I desperately need your advice and suggestions. I have 5.5 years of experience in the IT industry. After graduating in computer science, I joined a premier IT service based company with an interest in programming. Got trained in a programming language, got to work on short coding projects for a year. But after that, as my projects ended, recession started and projects stopped coming. I had to take up an Infrastructure project just to be billable and to save my job. I did menial work for 1.5 years.. then after getting frustrated, I studied some concepts and switched my job.. Now I'm in this new job, having spent 2 years here, all I've done till now is firing SQL queries and making small updates in my application's database. After joining here, I've always been in the hope that I'll get something challenging here, but now I've realized everybody is in his/her comfort zone here, with good work life balance and comfortable job. After 5.5 years, when I assess my profile, I don't remember anything about programming technologies, I have no skills to show, lost interest in coding. I'm just doing what my company wants me to do, not learning anything whatsoever. Feeling frustrated, don't know where to go next. I see that I can add options/polls in this post if I'm facing a dilemma. But I don't even know what options I have.. Please advise.

  • Any other option(any suggestions from experienced people welcome)
  • Start learning prog. lang. from scratch to switch job(and show prog. exp in profile)
  • Explore some new option(not sure which)

Hello puys.

I am an Computer Engineer 2013 pass out.I got selected in a reputed company during campus placements and my joining is towards the end of this month.

Mean time in this 5 months from July-Nov I also prepared for CAT13 and other entrance exams.

Now my dilemma is whether to join the company now or take this year as drop (as I am also giving XAT,SNAP,CMAT) and continue my MBA preparations.

The problem with the company is the 2 years bond. And the bond amount is 2 lakhs. So I will have to wait for 2 years to do MBA as breaking the bond is not an option for me.

Please suggest what should I do,Take up the job and work for 2 years and then do MBA or continue with my MBA preparations and target MBA 2014-16 batch.

what certification courses can i do with regular mba ?

Hey guys,

I am in a sort of a dilemma nowadays. I am working as a Trainee Scientist at Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) and we will be given our final posting after 1 year of training and then only we will be getting theactual salary and be called class I Gazetted Officer of Govt. of India. But recently I got through IOCL Assistant Officer too, where the salary is a bit less (7 LPA at IOCL and around 45K Per Month in hand at BARC) than what compared to BARC but I'm attracted by the fact that being in the Oil Sector, one can make good moolah. Plus in BARC will not be getting any annual bonuses, furniture allowances, car loan and home loan which tempts me to join IOCL even though I know that the job will be very mediocre there and I may be posted to a remote area.

I am a bit confused regarding what exactly to do.

Should I go for the reputation at BARC or the money at IOCL.

Hi All,

I have 2 years of experience in IT(out of it 7 months as a BA in IT), Planning to do MBA-Finance, which financial domains are open for me, i know IB is not as they take freshers or relevant exp,
what about Corporate finance roles and Equity Research role, in which roles can i leverage on my 2 yr experience.
Also the IT consultancies like cognizant and Accenture gives Consultant role to those who have prior IT exp.

Paras Dutta

Hi All,

I have 34 months of work experience in IT field as of now. I have been working in Software Testing and all that I know is Manual ,Mainframe testing and not coding. I am working in retail domain so grasped the concepts of those as testing needs business scenarios to be learnt and we have good contact with the BA. I planned to switch as Business analyst but my manager said it is not possible and you need an MBA. I have given CAT this year, but I feel I would not make into the IIM's. I am very confused what to do now.

1. Whether I can give GMAT in 2014, If so in which year can I join a college.

2. I am not interested in coding , so what shall do now, shall I continue to be in this job, but I am not getting good package?

3. Join any college based on my CAT scores.

4. Try to get into Banking sector and take the IT role ( Specialist officer)...

Academic detals:

10th -86% (CBSE)

12th - 94%(State board)

BE (ECE) - 76%

Lot of people who started along with me after my graduation are earning more.I feel very low when some of my relatives ask my package etc..... but in the end it is not about money but a good career.Watched Steve commencement address many times but still no ray of hope in my life.

Kindly advice.

Thanks in advance.
