HI All,

Need some advice.
If past results (IIFT, Nmat and snap) are any indicators then I wont be able to crack CAT this time,though I'm ready to put in efforts for CAT 2014 but by the time results come in year 2015 my work exp. will be 36 months (working in IT) and this has got me really worried as I've read that it is very difficult to get placed in firms other than IT services (having experience of more than 2 years in IT services)once u graduate from bschool. Don't know what to do? should I take admission if able to manage a decent score or wait and put in more efforts for CAT 2014.

Puys, am in need of some guidance/opinions on a matter regarding my personal life.

The thing is, my family members are totally against any progress in life. The only reason I can fathom is probably they have some past-experience buried in their past and have made this totally unreasonable opinion that whatever I do about my career is only because I am greedy or something. In today's society , just a bachelor's is not enough and but they don't understand this.

I will elaborate a bit. Currently, I am in a job but the pay is really paltry. And no career obviously. They are super happy with this. When I got a 'back' in college they were satisfied with that too (while I was on the brink of a breakdown). But whenever I got something fruitful done, like getting a paper published or intern etc. they were utterly discouraging...saying things like 'why do you work so much' ,'you shouldn't be doing that', as if my career is of no importance...

Getting admission in even a tier 2 /tier 3 mba college is tough enough, and on top of that they keep nagging me not to aim high and not to put any efforts in studies. It's really some mental problem of their's, and I don't know how to deal with it! (it could be money problem, but it's not. They tried to heavily demotivate me with that argument, but i made it clear to them that i won't be taking money from them for mba)

I have lived last 5 yrs away from them (4 yrs Btech+1yr Job). Even in college they used to nag me not to put efforts in studies - through phone calls etc. Currently I got transffered to my own hometown, since last july, and have to live with them and deal with this on a daily basis.

How to deal with all this- the constant demotivation thing? Recently I applied in US and Germany too, and they totally lost their temper...! 😞 it was heartbreaking, father's and mother's such comments is very demotivating...and it feels like I am guilty and doing something wrong.

In all other respects parents are very good and caring, but when it comes to me working for my career they get really paranoid and it affects me greatly in my life...

My profile :

Xth- 91.45

Xthh - 85%

Btech -> 78%

Right now working as software developer in HCL, and have 1.5 yrs of work ex so far.

No education gaps anywhere.

CAT was my 3rd attempt.

2011 (with prep) -> 77%

2012 (without prep)-> 62%

2013 (with job and full prep) -> 57% ( SHOCKED)

DINT expect it at any cos, especially when i lost IIFT by just 3 marks this year, and NMAT mein scored 204 this year.

Its not that i have given up, but now kind of low on confidence.

So what wud u suggest??
Right now , i am expecting a call from nmims bangalore.

Hello puys,

I am a 2013 engg (CS) pass out. Cleared couple of examinations which occupied my 6 months till now. Currently waiting for the result of PO after the interview plus preparing for SSC/other govt jobs.

My academics-
10th - 86%
12th- 55%
engg - 59.8%

I didn't try for private sector as 9 out of 10 companies keep 60% criteria, otherwise I'm very good at IT skills. Even my friends curse me for leaving (almost) it. 😐

The question is, some of friends and a big bro, who know(s) me very well, are suggesting me to attempt for CAT. They say I can do well in that. I gave CMAT last yr while I was in engg and scored 84 percentile with absolute negative prep.

The only thing which is keeping me off from CAT is my ultra poor academics. As far as I know, MBA entrances have started to focus more and more on academics. What's the real story ? Should I attempt for MBA ?

Thanks for reading this. 😃

Hi Friends,

Looking for some suggestions plz...
Having done my B.tech in 2009, I have 4 years of work exp till now. Presently, I am working with Cisco. My previous company was acquired by Cisco last year, the reason I didn't wrote my MBA in 2012. As I was confident of doing well in xams, I wrote my MBA exams in 2013 and was expecting good calls, but every results have given me a shock. What ever calls I had were from an avg or below avg colleges, so I won't be going for PI's. I went for Symbiosis PI-WAT and have only 1 convert till now, that is SITM.
Now, I am wondering what options I have ? ?
to join SITM (don't know what justice will it do) ?
write CAT next year ?
Continue working with Cisco, and later go for an exec MBA ?
try to switch over ?
rolleyes😐

Hi,

I had a somewhat unusual query ... Hope the Puys can throw some light on this :
"Is it worth/feasible/possible to pursue an Executive MBA, after having completed a regular full time MBA program and working post that for some years (say 3-5) ? This is for further career advancement purposes after the post MBA work ex, which sometimes may not be as fulfilling from a career perspective."
I haven't heard as such of anyone having pursued an E-MBA post an MBA. Plz let me know your thoughts on this .....
Thanks
