Hi, I wanna write CAT this year and i am preparing for it , but at this point of time , i have got a offer in a MNC where i am sure to get onsite opportunity for minimum 2 years where i could be deputed to either US or Australia or Europe during Sep or Oct (at the time of CAT exams , therefore i couldnot write the CAT ) .I am in a dilemma whether to take this opportunity to work in foreign countries and earn big bucks and after 2 yeas when i return to India i would be 28 years and then could i take up a Executive MBA programme from any Bschool or leave that onsite for writing CAT and studying MBA in a good Bschool ??????? The thing is there is 2 years bond in that company if i take up that offer

Hi All,

I'm a PGDM 2nd year (finance + marketing) student from LIBA, Chennai and with final placements closing in, I would request you guys to help me out: I've done B.Pharm from an institute in WB (2010)and also M.Pharm from BIT Mesra (2012) (since I cracked GATE and never thought of MBA at that time). Then I worked in Cipla Ltd (operations profile...low salary....poor work conditions....low growth opportunity) for 1 yr.......before joining Cipla I began thinking of MBA and with my 1st try I got into LIBA (2013)...........its been a year that I'm here......I had a tough time during summer placements to explain recruiters of my interest in management after M.pharm (did my SIP in CUMI, murugappa grp, mkt research)........ I'm really interested in finance and have done NCFM certifications from NSE.

Since, very few core finance profiles were offered here in last year's placements and so I'm keeping my options open for marketing, IT consulting, etc. Please answer the following query:

The reason for leaving pharma for MBA even after having a master's degree is purely because of passion for management and widening scope for career. Do you think an answer based on the following reasons will suffice during final placements?? If not what other way??

@sb29  : Sir,I hv 5 yrs of work exp in purchase department in a reputed company. Now, I want to go for MBA from FMS (bcoz of fees). May u please suggest me right MBA program. Further, I am also thinking of sector change. Please help.

As a project engineer,

First year :

you are thrilled and excited to be part of a tier 1 company and amazed by the IT campus and facilities on offer.  You work hard, eager to prove your worth, sometimes till 10-11pm in night. Your team lead praises you, project manager applauds you..

Second year :

You are excited by last years appraisals which gives you the top rating, you are eager to repeat the success.  Seniors in the team, in the name of exposure gives you bits and bits of their own work.  You don't mind, anxious to leave your mark in team and project.

Third year :

small things like back pain and occasional migraine has started troubling you but you are ready to give your blood and sweat for the project.  You are slightly troubled as appreciation for your hardwork is taken over by onsite leads and managers but still you rejoice in the useless appreciation mails send over to you by client or team manager.  Also you are thrilled to get awards for star performer etc...  Regardless of your body's warning calls you still fire away until midnight.  Inbetween there are the useless appraisal exams and mandatory certifications nothing related to your current work, which you should clear to get appraisal.

Fourth year : You start to get bored with the work assigned to you as it is repititive..Also the team lead wants you to "mentor" the juniors in the team, a plain old way of losing his headache, in addition to handling the extra work and "addon"s on the group.  You start to look for a job change like to Infosys, TCS , lured by the 40-50% jump in salary atleast.  You give your resignation.  In HR discussion, the HR and your manager desperately try to stop you from leaving offering goodies like "initiation of H1B and travel within 6 months", 10% hike in salary etc..  You accept it.
5th year  :If you are lucky, you fly to the US to the client's location and start working.  Your bad luck , you realize that the offshore team is lazy and slacking out and not as hardworking as you,  you start to send escalation mails to them and threaten "consequences", thereby earning the badwill of the team.  meanwhile the Delivery manager keeps on pressurizing you to complete the project well before timeline to impress the clients.  Helpless, you yourself start to do the basic coding/testing work to pursue weekly timelines.  and you are tired of telling lame excuses to client for not meeting the same.

6th year  : You are married and have taken a new flat and new car on loan EMI.  Your fancy onsite allowance pays all those so you are not worried.  You have to face competition from the erstwhile junior guys who are also whining to get onsite by now.  You continue your work which has by now become dreadful and boring, but to keep the kitchen running.

7th year : You are called back as the project has come to a "sudden end" as client declared bankruptcy and unable to spare one more dollar to your company.  You return back to your old cubicle to find all your friends and colleague have moved on and not even one knowing face is there.  You try desperately to go back to US but still face acute competition.  You are meanwhile made the project manager of a new project and given 20 people and assigned to make them do 50 people work.  You struggle a lot, working 12-14 hrs in office, office bus , home and even avoiding sleep as clients like to call hourly basis at night (their morning) to check "progress".  meanwhile your wife and first child complain that you are not spending time with them.  High BP, back pain makes your body weak but still you toil day and night hard.  Meanwhile you are saddened by fact that people who don't know basic english grammar and have IQ

9th year : One day as usual you are toiling hard, you are surprised to see a mail asking for HR discussion.  assuming about a new leadership role, you are amazed (and later shocked) to find a  young fresh

9 years of toiling hard for the company, giving your blood and sweat for the company,  getting BP, migraine, backpain as bonuses , left with EMIs for the flat, car, furniture, even the fancy phone you are holding now and an unstable family relationship, you just realize whether was it all worth it??

This post is not meant to terrify you or any badwill against any company but just the sad facts of IT life.  You can live out your youth like a king, own the world, but after 35.. you are seriously left with no choice..

Does having a bad score in 10th and 12th affect ones chances of getting into a good B-school?
if yes what colleges to target if not having 80+% in 10th and 12th and having no work ex??

I worked in a company for 15 months and then i just left without any intimation as i did not want to pay 75k as bond money as mentioned in  my employment agreement. In short : I do not have the experience certificate. Will the salary slips suffice or Is it really important to present the experience/relieving letter? What other options do i have? Please enlighten me.

Hey guys,

I was doing my B.Tech. in mechanical engineering and in the final year i got a job in an IT company. They asked me to join immediately so i took up the opportunity but i had couple of back papers left for my B.Tech. Later working in that company i decided to leave my mechanical degree cause it was not relevant to the field and do a distance degree in BCA  cause i wanted to stay in software field and it was not possible for me to take a long leave to go and complete my remaining 4-5 papers. Now my profile is 10th /12th/grad : 87/74/71. and around 34 months exp. Please tell your honest opinions on whether i can get a good MBA college for CAT after the degree drop out. Although i have a proper explanation for it. Please help guys, need your honest opinions.

Hello guys! I am in a real dilema right now. I have just recently completed my B.Com from DU. My long term goal is doing MBA from a reputed bschool. But before that i want to gain some work ex, preferably 2 years. I am interested in the finance domain. Initially i was thinking of giving ibps po but reading negative reviews about the work culture there i am not sure about it anymore. Which job profiles should i be looking for alongside which i can also get enough time to prepare for CAT. I will also be giving CFA L1 in June next year. Would really love any advice.

What should I expect to learn from my physics master's degree if I am going to do an MBA right after that?

Now I am doing my M.Sc from one of the NITs. I am preparing for MBA along with M.Sc, actually I was interested in MBA from B.Sc 3rd year itself. I was preparing for  M.Sc from B.Sc  1st year, but my choice changed during 3rd year. At that time it was not possible for me to suddenly prepare for MBA, therefore I decided to go for M.Sc first for which I had been preparing for past 2 years. Now I have just started my M.sc and going to appear for CAT15, I'm not sure whether I can get a good college this time, most probably next year will be the year when I'll finish M.sc and join MBA. So What should I try to get from this course?  And what minimum cgpa should I try to get?

I have 92,88,86 in 10th,12th & b.sc

what are the options available after bank po?I recently got selected as PO in a PSB.

MBA does not seem like a possible option as my 10th ,12th and grad scores are really low:59,59,72.
